Chapter 1: Prologue: Grim Kennet

Chapter Text

Four years - almost five. That’s how long it had been since Grim Kennet became Rue Kenobi. Not a Jedi, but just a young woman trying to find herself in a broken galaxy.

For three of those years Rue stayed with Obi-Wan. Stayed with Ben. For she had been unable to leave him, and she needed him still. Yet, she also knew she could not stay. So the two had agreed that one day, when Rue was ready she would leave.

So she had. Except she hadn’t been ready. She had spent one more year hiding, well many months of that year. Although it was foolish to keep the last name Kenobi the young woman had kept it anyways. She wanted to have something left of her former Master for just a little longer.

Yet now Rue could no longer be Rue Kenobi. A nobody in the galaxy. Hiding had never been a life she was fit for living.

Grim Kennet had made a promise when she became a Jedi, and by hiding she was breaking that promise. How could she save lives if she was standing by as the Empire burnt entire worlds to the ground? She couldn’t.

So the once Jedi had gone to find the man who had saved her and Obi-Wan all those years ago.

 “Senator,” she greeted him.

“Master Kennet,” he said in surprise. “What are you doing here?”

“I want to join your rebellion,” she told him.

“How did you know about it?”

“I know you can keep a secret, so I am willing to trust you with mine,” Grim replied. “I am from another universe, in my universe this is fiction. I know about your rebellion because I’ve seen it before. I should have joined years ago, but I was too afraid to face the galaxy.”

“I see,” said Bail, surprised by what she told him, but hiding it. “Well then, welcome to the Rebellion. Do you have anything else I should know?”

“I think I know how I can help the Rebellion,” she told him.

The Senator took a seat and motioned for her to do the same. “I’m all ears, Master Jedi.”

“Being from another universe I’ve seen this before. I know the Empire, and several of its secret plans,” she explained. “I believe, if you would allow me to, I could use this information to take down secret imperial projects and foil their plans. And, if I am unable to, set others on the track to do the same.”

“That could be vital to the Rebellion.”

“I thought it would be,” replied Grim. “Although I would prefer to work with very little contact with others within it. Being a Rebel on its own is a large enough risk. Being a Rebel and a Jedi?”

“Everyone who has joined the Rebellion understands the risk, but I understand your concerns. You could give information to Fulcrum to pass along,” Bail suggested.

“Fulcrum? Yes. Currently Fulcrum is Ahsoka, right?”

“I am not allowed to disclose that information, but I believe you know the answer. Is there a codename you would like to go by?”

Grim thought about it. “The Oracle. I’m using future knowledge, after all.”

“Then welcome to the Rebellion, Oracle.”
