i'm so used to letting go (but I don't wanna be alone)

Summary:

Roier's journey with his relationship with Cellbit.

Notes:

the purgatory event destroyed my vision of guapoduo so I wrote this as a way to vent.

some may say there is a slight mischaracterization of Roier.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Roier is bored when he meets Cellbit. After Spreen, nothing caught his attention the same way. He woke up, took care of Bobby, hung out with Jaiden and went to sleep.
Meeting him was exciting, he climbs the latter on the boat and sees five new faces. He's a people's person, so he thrives in the interactions.

Cellbit threatens Bobby that day. He also says he likes Roier. It's weird because they just met but he guesses it was to soften the blow of having bad mouthed his son. It's interesting. Cellbit overall is a interesting person. He's smart and dedicated and sometimes a little bit of an asshole. He's focused on investigating something everytime Roier sees him. He and Maximus have something going on, there is a moment when he makes Roier feel left out and uncomfortable in a situation. Roier is okay with that, in fact, it adds to Cellbit's character in his opinion. He likes mean men.

They flirt a bit. He doesn't know who started it, probably him, but one day he heard a rumor about being called a cutie by him, so he learns that word in his language and uses it with him when they see each other again. Cellbit calls him guapito in return. It's nice.

He's a busy man, which Roier doesn't understand. Everything in this island is fabricated, they don't really have anything to do here, just live their stupid lives like it's vacations. So he doesn't understand what kind of "work" Cellbit is invested in even when he shows him the new secret base and the stuff he's doing. Roier lets him be.

They go on a date once. Or, well, as close to a date as it can be when you have both your kids with you. He learns a little bit more about Cellbit's sense of humor and the way he laughs when Roier tells him a stupid joke pleases Roier. Richarlyson tells him something interesting about his father and Roier feels like a highschooler. Spreen shows up that day and everything else loses its importance. All he wants is to leave and go straight to him, Bobby already went to sleep anyway, but he doesn't go out of politeness.

He loses Bobby forever and everything is just static from there. He thinks Cellbit was there to comfort him once or twice but he doesn't really care. No one matters if he can't have Bobby.
There is a commotion one day about Cellbit going crazy and Maximus is up Roier's ass asking him to go talk Cellbit out of it. Roier doesn't like feeling like he has to do this but at the same time he thinks it's kind of hot that people – not only Maximus – think he has some power over this man who's supposedly going insane. He likes the danger. He talks it out with Cellbit and it turns out he's just making some plans about the Federation and Roier just expresses his trust and leaves him to it. He has to admit it feels good when they talk next time, Cellbit shows him the place where his new home will be and asks Roier to trust him and give him some time. Roier is okay with that, it's all he can do anyway.

Then, Cellbit disappears. There is a letter and everything. He gets sad reading it, it's heavy with the feelings Cellbit was experiencing when he wrote it. It feels very sincere and Roier feels actually cared for in the moment. But it's hilarious that the only person who dared to care is now missing. There are some flowers that Richarlyson explains to him mean "a strong bond that doesn't break easily" and he gets what Cellbit wanted to tell him. His heart breaks a little thinking about what he could have had.

People are dumb and they don't understand Cellbit at all. They're accusing him and theorizing stupid things all around and Roier is tired of hearing opinions from BadBoyHalo. The letter and gift messed with him for how he spends the next few hours defending this man like it's his job. It's just that he doesn't understand how people could just jump to conclusions. Wouldn't it be easier just to find Cellbit and ask him about the Sofia thing?

They find Cellbit, there is a rescue mission and he's happy to help. He gives his all to try and kill everything on his way until he sees Cellbit through the glass. He's happy. He gets to scream his name again and hear him saying it back. He makes sure he's the one freeing him and take him to safety. It's a great vibe, everyone is happy. So happy they decide to throw a party at the top of the N.I.N.H.O Hotel. Up there, Richarlyson brings up a strange topic. The kid seems to be idealizing some kind of fairytale story and suggest they get married. He's about to laugh because that is an insane idea that only makes sense in a child's head. Then Cellbit turns to him and asks him if he wants to get married. Roier doesn't know how to react, actually. It's a public proposal and he would feel bad denying it in front of everyone, it would ruin everyone's moods, especially Cellbit's. But he also does not want to say yes. They don't know each other that long and that well. Overall getting married right now is the last thing in his head. He feels confused and cornered. He brings up a ring as a way to slow things up but everyone's insistent and Cellbit offers him a donut as a replacement. Roier is not about the material thing but he thinks this is the last thing he'd use as a proposal ring. He ends up accepting it thinking he can postpone the actual ceremony for maybe a few years. If there's still interest there. If... Maybe.

And just then he's asked out on a date. Which he does not show up to. He sleeps for the next couple of days.
He doesn't know how but he called his abuelo to the island to come to the wedding – which Cellbit set for 15 days after the proposal!! – and he's surprised that the old man actually came. When he wakes up, though, he doesn't see the man around. Quackity tells him weird things and Cellbit acts weird. He ends up confessing on Melissa's office that he killed Roier's abuelo. Fight ensues and Roier feels conflicted. He's confused about his abuelo's situation because here in this island death works different ways and the man should still be alive but Cellbit doesn't know where he went. Cellbit tells him bullshit about having killed by accident and it makes it worse. He's being manipulative and a liar. Roier hates him, he wants to punch his mouth and leave him with a red eye but it's also the most excited he's been about Cellbit since the whole proposal ordeal. It's... interesting again. He breaks off the engagement and leaves to sleep feeling mad and horny.

The next day he attends to the party and he can't say he's sad about the break up — he didn't get to feel like they actually had something in the first place and he likes the drama — but his spirits are low because of the bad night's sleep he's had the previous night. The party is a mess. Well, in reality the party is beautiful and fun, but Cellbit causes havock and makes a mess out of himself. Drunk and manipulative. Again, Roier thinks, this is actually way more interesting. Against Jaiden's best whishes he seeks Cellbit out to talk but he's unable after seeing him with the rest of the Brazilians. He leaves him be and goes home. He meets Cucurucho, who brings him to his abuelo. They talk and another person in his life tells him that Cellbit means danger but contrary to what they believe, instead of driving him away, that's what makes him want to be close. He runs to Cellbit's castle and makes things up with him. They have an awkward date, with some awkward situations and conversations and a interruption by Foolish in a Mario costume. It's wild.

Cellbit takes him to a "secret place" and he thought something exciting was gonna happen but he just shows him a painting of both of them with Richarlyson and Bobby. He says it's a family picture and that that's their future but Roier doesn't really see that. Bobby is dead and his kid and Cellbit were never anything to each other than acquaintances. He decides not to comment too much on it. Cellbit tells him interesting things about going to jail and breaking out of it. About having killed people. It's rushed and oversimplified, he can tell, but it brings a thrill of excitement to him again. The danger is hot. Cellbit promises that he would kill for Roier if he asked, but would never hurt him. He feels powerful hearing it. So when Cellbit brings out the donut again, Roier feels less forced when he says yes. Cellbit approaches to what it seems like a kiss but chickens out last minute. They laugh about it. Later on, they actually kiss. It's a small peck, no longer than 5 seconds and there's obviously no tongue but Roier feels good and happy about it, his heart jumped with excitement while it was happening. He leaves to sleep at his house.
Roier sleeps for a few days after that and the next time he wakes up, Cellbit has a ceremony planned, rings being forged, catering and music figured out. Roier finds it funny receiving a invitation to his own wedding, one that he's seeing for the first time, that he didn't help to plan and make. He makes a joke about it but he suspects Cellbit will never truly understand it. They talk to Maximus about bringing a priest to officialize everything and it's the only thing Roier actually contributes to the wedding. He goes to sleep again and only wakes up on the wedding day.

He's nervous. He never thought he'd get married so soon, he's only twenty one and he feels too young for this. He also never thought it would be so rushed and so uninteresting to him but he's here. Although it all, is still his wedding day and it's a big deal, so he has a hard time calming down. He stands at the altar and waits for Cellbit to walk down the aisle. It's nice, his groom looks beautiful and his eyes shine an extra mile that day. The ceremony is also beautiful and Roier finds himself holding back some tears and trying to swallow the knot forming in his throat. Him and Cellbit exchange rings and they look awesome and cool and well thought and Roier thinks Cellbit is also awesome for putting this out together all alone while he slept. He feels bad, but there's nothing he can do right now to fix it. Cellbit gives a beautiful speech in Portuguese that Roier sadly only half understands but he catches something about Cellbit being interested in him since the day on the boat. He doesn't know how to feel about it. It's beautiful and sad. When it's Roier's time to give his speech, he tries to compile only the most sincere feelings in his heart. He trusts Cellbit and he wants to be by his side and help him with whatever he needs. He says I love you in the most intense way the Spanish language allows him to, but he holds back tears about that being the only part of his vows that are not entirely sincere. He's sad because he wanted it to be true, he's sad because he's using powerful words in his language that weren't supposed to be throw away like that, he's sad because he doesn't remember anyone from his family but he feels they would be disappointed in him for what he's doing. For accepting this when he knows it's not the most sure thing his heart could ever ask.

They kiss and Roier sets his mind to the objective. He's only gonna get married once, that's just how it is. He's tied to Cellbit forever. He's gonna make it enjoyable and happy and he's gonna turn this into his dream. Having a goal and some hope in mind actually helps and he enjoys the rest of the party with the other islanders and his new husband.
Afterwards Cellbit takes him to his — their — room at the castle and tells him he's not interested in sex and that their honeymoon is not gonna include it. Roier thinks: boring and then wants to hit himself for it. He respects Cellbit's whishes and anyway he's honestly too tired to do anything. They shower and go to bed. They play a little bit of video games until Roier falls asleep.

He sleeps for a few more days again. Now that they share a bed, he sees it when Cellbit wakes up everyday — and he pretends to be asleep when Cellbit kisses his head before leaving — and he pretends again when he comes back to bed. He doesn't feel like getting up, he doesn't know what to do so he just stays sleeping.

His husband runs for president while he's sleeping. Roier hates politics and couldn't care more about who runs this stupid island and he definitely doesn't want roots in this place. Still, he goes to the debates and cheers for his husband when he's speaking. He looks hot with a formal outfit and he's flirting and declaring himself to Roier all around. It feels good. He learns some cheering in Portuguese from Richarlyson and keeps repeating it through all three debates. In the last one, Cellbit kills himself. It is not as upsetting doing this when you know he's gonna wake up again, that deaths are only temporary. Still, Roier feels distressed and tries to stop it from happening. He punches his husband a few times when he shows up again after he succeeds. Cellbit declares his candidature over and he declares that Roier is the person he loves the most. Roier doesn't see where the intensity of those feelings come from. He feels like he lost a big important chapter of his own love life. He wonders if he's just an asshole for not feeling the same way. He doesn't know how to respond to it so he teases Richarlyson until he can change the subject without being weird.

They spend the next months in a happy relationship. He gets to spend more time with both Cellbit and Richarlyson and there are times where they actually feel like a family. Him and Cellbit have some time alone some nights when Richarlyson is with Pac and Mike and they make out like crazy, hot and steamy until it finally leads to sex. It's good, Cellbit is a good lover, he's caring and attentive and he's good at the actual thing. He lays there satisfied and when he cuddles close to Cellbit's chest and tells him I love you he actually means it. He never repeated the same words from the wedding again, but Cellbit doesn't point out the difference. Maybe he doesn't know, maybe he doesn't mind it. Roier is not going to ask.

It's good. They go out and do things Cellbit likes. They investigate, do enigmas, they built, they take care of Richarlyson together. And Roier is always there, always glad to be there. He has fun with them and he gets very attached to Richarlyson. The kid calls him "pa" which used to itch uncomfortably inside Roier's brain. That's not his child, that's his stepson. He makes sure emphasize it to him, to tell him that he's not his dad, only by consideration, but the kid won't budge so he gives up. Richarlyson is a nice kid, he's not so well behaved but Roier never had a problem with that. Roier admits that he's attached. There's nothing he can do now. But when he's asked to take care of him alone, for a long time he says no. He makes up excuses and leaves. He doesn't know why there is a barrier between him and Richarlyson since none of them decided to put it there, but he pushes the thought aside and blames it on Bobby's death. That's all.

As for Roier and Cellbit, they are so so much closer than when they got married. Roier still mourns what they relationship could have been if they weren't rushed into marriage before they even went on a date. This is what they should have before marriage. Companionship, inside jokes, hours and hours of conversations about everything and anything and nothing at all. Stupid theories about the world and the planets. Stupid questioning about the universe. Cellbit tells him about puzzles and conspiracy theories – he thinks they're bullshit and stupid but he tells Roier anyway because Roier is weirdly interested in them. They're fun, okay?! – and everything that he read back in prison, his philosophical theories and existencial crisis and how he questions the existence of a God and video games that he used to play and cartoons he used to watch and he tells Roier almost word for word the plot twists of mystery books he has stored in his mind and he gushes about his love for board games like the giant nerd he is.

Roier mostly tells him about México. He tells him the things he remembers, the music, the food, the burning sun from Monterrey and the old car his abuelo had when he was a teen and of when he tried to teach Roier to drive illegally that ended in a small accident where the car didn't survive and how his abuelo cried about it for ages even though Roier was only 15 and was only following his instructions. He feels a bitter taste in his mouth when he tells Cellbit about how his abuelo never wanted to marry his abuela, that he did it out of pressure since she ended up pregnant, and how he never had a problem expressing it to anyone who asked, but mostly to anyone who didn't ask, even at the sake of the family's reputation. He talks about only having him as a family member — that he remembers — and how he'd love to know what happened to his abuela, or if she's even alive. He opens up about how he loves the old man but he never ever wants to be a lover like him. How he is the example of what not to do. He hopes Cellbit can read between the lines.

They laugh, they have fun, they get bored together, they kiss, they cuddle, they sit in silence and it's comfortable. They don't fight at all, they disagree on things but it's always solved in a healthy conversation. They tease and make fun of each other a lot and it always ends up in awkward kisses because they can't stop smiling to do it properly. Roier realizes that he's always smiling when he's talking to Cellbit and when they stop, his cheeks hurt. And now, when Roier holds his hand, it feels natural and good. So nevermind that they did it all backwards, at least Roier enjoys what they have right now.

(So why does Roier feel like everything that they have is not enough? Why does it feel so... lacking?)

It's was a terrible idea, he knew it from the start. He should have learned it from Bobby but he didn't. He gets attached not only to Richarlyson but to Leonarda too. And both of them go missing. He doesn't deal well with the situation and he tries to joke it out by presuming they're dead already so it doesn't come as a surprise when they do end up dead. Like Bobby. Bobby took him by surprise, so no one else will. He hates Cellbit for dealing with it differently, even though he knows it's irrational. He gets bothered by the jokes and tries to have heart to hearts but Roier doesn't know what to do with himself when he has to talk it out. He doesn't sleep well, Cellbit doesn't sleep well. Sometimes they're good and investigate together. Sometimes he indulges in Cellbit's need of a conversation, he tries to stop himself from joking when he's around Cellbit. His husband understands him, though. They hug very hard and bask in the little ray of comfort they can have until the kids come back.

Cellbit finds out he has a sister. Those are some crazy days, he wasn't there for most of it but he noticed some changes on Cellbit. He's tense and mad at everything and keeping to himself. Bagi comes to him bringing the news before Cellbit himself could tell him. She's worried that Cellbit hates her but right now Roier is certain Cellbit just hates everything. Still, Roier knows he's gonna come around and they will be family again. Eventually.

He convinces Cellbit to talk to Bagi and it's a cute moment until Cucurucho shows up and takes Cellbit with him. He knew it would happen because Cellbit was already feeling it, but Roier promised he would go after him if anything happens to him. There's a heavy feeling in his heart when Cellbit is about to leave, Roier feels like holding him back and chaining him to a table. He wants to say something. Hey, take care, I love you. But he doesn't say it and Cellbit doesn't hesitate before he's gone. He doesn't see Cellbit awake for a while after that but he looked around the castle and found Cellbit sleeping in the Fear Room, so it catches him by surprise when Bagi comes to seek him again, this time accusing Cellbit of killing federation workers. Roier... doesn't really care? He doesn't have any empathy for the Federation, he doesn't see anything wrong to be honest, if Cellbit is actually doing it, then he must have a reason. It's actually pretty hot if he is. He tries to make Bagi understand this but she doesn't. She keeps saying he's crazy and unhinged, that he needs to be stopped and it annoys Roier. He's been here for 7 months already, he has his own opinions about the Federation, it's workers and Cellbit. He tries to be calm but he ends up drawing his sword at her, it looks like she doesn't fear him though, because she doesn't notice. All Cellbit's work inspire Roier a little. If his husband wants to kill, why not help? It's the most excited he's been in a while, and it brings back some long hidden bloodthirst. He's so ready to hold Cellbit's hand while they kill whatever victim Cellbit has in mind. It could be anyone, really. Federation or not. At this point when they see each other again he's already set his mind to it. Cellbit asks him if he really wants to go down that path with him, like he's the one corrupting Roier or something. He doesn't know and Roier doesn't tell him. He mentions it but doesn't elaborate. There's no time. Maybe someday he'll tell him everything.

They make a promise and Roier feels alive.
It's all abruptly interrupted when all of them are thrown in another island, set with different objectives. In reality, the Purgatory gives him more access and more excuses to kill, the boomer is that he's separated from Cellbit. And on rival teams. That's okay though, they promise not to hurt each other. Purgatory's the most stressing situation he's even been through, for real. He's constantly frustrated and mad about things he can't control. He nurtures negative feelings about other islanders that are very well his friends. In the middle of it, though, one good thing comes: Etoiles. He's never been close to him or interacted with him a lot in the regular Island but now he's Roier's team's leader. Roier knows about Etoiles' potential and he knows his team is feared as they have the strongest fighters amongst the three teams and it scratches his competitive bone so he makes sure to become Etoiles' right hand man and be close and available when he needs. They develop a curious relationship. Roier does it without thinking but when he realizes, on day three of purgatory, he's flirting with Etoiles. And Etoiles is flirting back. It's been a while since he felt the burning hot feeling at the bottom of his belly. Delicious and exciting. He missed it so much, he feels young again like he hadn't since Spreen. Him and Etoiles go out hunting and mining together, flirting and joking on the way. Etoiles is sharp tongued and acid, he insults Roier with no fear of being taken the wrong way. Roier likes it. He gives it back just as acid. Before he notices, he's being intense with Etoiles and making promises to protect each other, to stand against anything and anyone. Then he remembers.

Cellbit. This... No, this is nothing. Him and Etoiles are friends and some flirting won't hurt anyone. It's not like Etoiles is interested in him anyway. Cellbit doesn't have to know. He meets him the desert that same day, like the universe is mocking him or something. He asks Cellbit for a fight and he denies it, because he could never hurt his husband. Roier doesn't want to feel annoyed by it but he does. It's like his heart is clouded by a black smoke of pure annoyance and will to punch him out of it. They're in purgatory, he should stop being so soft. He shakes it off.

While they talk, Etoiles tells him in the communicator device that if he gets to kill Cellbit it would be good for points. For the team. Roier denies but he goes away from Cellbit before he does something he regrets. He goes back to the base and his day continues as always. His new dynamic with Etoiles is a pretty good distraction, he almost forgets it. Almost. Later on he feels guilty and sends Cellbit some love songs.
Cellbit is calling him to go after BadBoyHalo but Roier already has plans to do it with his team. He wants to avenge Etoiles and he wants to do it with the man himself. It's both their thing right now and he can't add Cellbit to this. Also, he can't risk letting Red Team get the points. So he just doesn't respond to Cellbit's message.

Roier has been craving that BadBoyHalo assassination for a few days now. Every minute he feels more and more frustrated that he can't find that rat and kill him for wronging Etoiles. He's made a promise and he's gonna go through with it. Whatever it takes. He just needs to find Bad.
There's a big event happening and all of his team is preparing for it. Roier is trembling with excitement and the desire to kill. Finally. After days dealing with containing the bloodthirst, he gets to kill. They do a number on Blue Team's egg and he gets to kill BadBoyHalo. The bloodthirst doesn't cease. He goes after Red Team. After Blue is eliminated there's nothing he can do anymore so Roier kills kills and kills some more, he avoid Cellbit and Jaiden the first few times. Then, Cellbit is at the tower. Roier doesn't think until his sword hits his husband from the back. Cellbit turns, ready to fight but pauses when he sees who it is. He wears a mask, which Roier feels relieved for, because he can't see his expression very well. Cellbit puts up his shield but doesn't strike back, he shakes his head no and Roier feels both guilty and annoyed at the same time. Even now he doesn't want to fight. Roier seathes the sword and pushes Cellbit from the tower. He sends him a chat to not come up anymore and to leave their place.

"I'm gonna kill everyone" he says it on the group call. He says it like a threat, like a warning and he repeats it over and over like they need a reminder. They don't. Maybe he needs a reminder. Everyone is everyone.

They are losing. Red Team found their egg and they just won't. Stop. Coming. They're everywhere and it's becoming impossible to defend. It doesn't matter how many of them he kills and kills and kills, nothing changes. They're still losing. Roier feels useless and frustrated. He's is at the base of the tower when he hears Bagi's scream for help. She calls his name. When he gets to her, he sees Cellbit attacking her, and Roier knows she doesn't stand a chance against him. He also knows Cellbit doesn't stand a chance against him. He charges and attacks without thinking. He's warned and Cellbit came by his own will. He kills Cellbit for the first time. Cellbit messages something and Roier tries to justify himself but he doesn't have the time to spend on trivial things right now. He's warned and anyone who stands in his way will get it. Bagi thanks him and he's happy he defended her. Happy she's alive.

Cellbit finds him in the desert and he's screaming about something that Roier doesn't care to listen. The second kill comes even easier than the first. He doesn't feel anything anymore. His egg is done for. The only chance they have to win is to break Red's egg. He's too focused. He doesn't care, he wants more blood. He wants them to die. He's extremely frustrated that they couldn't defend, he's getting even more frustrated that they can't seem to find the other team's fucking egg. He wants to blow this whole stupid maze to the ground. He wants to push his sword through every being on that fucking team.

They lose. Everything was for nothing. All the efforts and time they put into it was gone. Him and Etoiles tried so hard....
Once he stops seeing red, he sees Cellbit in one of the many castle holes. He approaches Roier confidently and before he can say anything, Roier apologizes. He justifies that it was only for the game. Cellbit accepts it easily and they go to the museum together. Then, they leave to the desert together. Still, Roier doesn't relax. He hates it. Cellbit is just being himself and treating him the same. When they get to a shack Cellbit apparently build for them, Cellbit hugs him and kisses him. Roier allows it but he doesn't put any effort to reciprocate.
He feels mad, but he doesn't know why. He genuinely feels like the killings were part of the game and Cellbit accepted it, so why? He whishes Etoiles were here.

And then he realizes. He doesn't want to be here. He wants to go back to Green and discuss it with his team. He wants to bicker with Etoiles and call each other names and even wrestle with him to release the leftover energy. He wants to punch and scream and bite.

Cellbit touches his hand softly and asks if he's okay. Roier wants to pull his hand back from under his but he manages to stop himself from doing it. He understands now. He knows what's wrong. Cellbit is an insane man, he's killed, he's tortured, he's rumored to have eaten people, he's been to prison, he's been unhinged and crazy once. All of that and he will never show that side to Roier. He's too soft. And Roier understands that Cellbit's love is caring but it just doesn't fit with what Roier wants. He loves Cellbit, he knows that. And it's not fraternal love, it's romantic. He also knows that. Still, it isn't the love he's craving and he's finally brave enough to admit to himself that he can't reciprocate with the same intensity of Cellbit's love. Cellbit is a good friend, an amazing person, loving and caring, protecting and giving. But he's never gonna have what Spreen had, what Etoiles has. The fireback, the hot feeling at his core. It doesn't matter how many times they fuck and make out, Cellbit just doesn't reach that need. It's so wrong. He knows it. Love should be more important than one single feeling that Roier knows comes from some fucked up mindplace that should probably be treated in therapy, but it doesn't matter how good Cellbit is for him, it doesn't matter that Cellbit can be dangerous and toxic, he's never gonna direct that to Roier.

He doesn't realize he's crying until Cellbit gets fussy and starts hugging him. Roier allows it because he doesn't know what to do otherwise. He doesn't want to hurt Cellbit. He thinks they were good before, they worked well, but now that he was reminded of the excitement of having a man's attention the way he likes it, he can't go back to that. He knows he doesn't have any other feelings for Etoiles. If they ever had anything, it would be just sex. And he knows that if they spend anymore time together it's a big possibility it would eventually happen. He can't have both. Not right now. That is something he only had with Spreen, who by the way is fucking dead.

He never wanted to be like his abuelo. He knows he's a better man than that, and still.... and still.

He cries on Cellbit's shoulder and falls asleep like that.

He doesn't know exactly what he feels the next day. He feels dragged down by a heavy weight on his shoulders, his heart is also heavy like it's so full it's about to leak everywhere. He goes back to the Green base and he doesn't care about the tasks of the day. He's here and Etoiles is here but they don't see each other. Cellbit sends him a message asking what he can do to help. If they lose today, they will be dead, it's what's been said. He doesn't care. He doesn't respond to Cellbit's message. Quackity shows up and he wants to do the tasks. He wants to try for a tie. Roier feels too depressed to argue so he just follows Quackity's orders. Cellbit asks again if he can help, and Roier lets him know what he need since he's being so insistent. They have 5 minutes and he's at the Global Spawn. Cellbit is here and he sounds frantic and desperate. He has the rabbit leather. It's not enough. Cellbit tells him to kill, Roier has no energy but he tries. He doesn't know why, maybe it's purely so he can wipe the desperation from Cellbit's tone. He doesn't want to hear it anymore. He goes for BadBoyHalo and Pierre. He can't get any of them and the time ends. It's over.

He wakes up the next day to find out the Eye is a fucking liar and that now the former Green Team was distributed to the other two teams. Him and Etoiles are Red Team now. He doesn't need to hear anymore. It's weird just coming to their base, their group chat like it's theirs. He feels like he's messing with things he shouldn't see. But having Etoiles go through it with him makes it easier, more comfortable. Cellbit seems happy that now they're on the same team, but they haven't actually talked since that day on the shack. And still, they don't have the time. They do tasks and try to win, it's 1vs1 one now. It's to win or to lose. Him and Etoiles are loud and their dynamic stays the same through the groupchat. No one complains. Everything seems to be good, he likes Red Team's dynamic and he has his favorite person from the Green Team with him. It finally feels good again. He's mostly satisfied now.

Him and Cellbit have some alone time on the first night. Everyone else went to sleep but they're both at the bed that's separated from the others. He's just sitting there when Cellbit shows up, he sits next to Roier and they don't speak for a while. Roier lays his head on Cellbit's shoulder and wraps his arms around his middle. Cellbit hugs him back. Eventually they lay down on the bed and they don't talk at all. They look at each other and kiss. They kiss hard and hot and Roier knows this can't escalate because the others are too close. He doesn't need to worry about excuses though, because Tubbo shows up and breaks their peace. They fight and he notices when Tubbo turns his attention to focus on Cellbit. He's mad and offended by that. He defends Cellbit and sends him to the safe area but ends up dying. They lose that day.

The next day when he wakes up his whole team is already working. He goes after them and notices the thick tension in the air. He tries to figure it out where it's coming from just by the group chat but for a while, he can't. Cellbit greets him happily, Philza is very patient and calm as usual, Baghera and Foolish are just working and having fun. He forgets about it when Etoiles comes through. They tease each other and joke flirt on the public voice chat and that's when Roier notices. Cellbit starts being snappy and rude to Etoiles, he talks over them and he sounds honestly pissed. Roier hasn't noticed before but now that he started paying attention, it's all he can see. Everytime him or Etoiles say something to each other, he buts in and cuts the conversation. He calls the other group members to update and for help but he barely addresses the two new members. Roier loses focus on everything else, he can only think of the way Cellbit is acting. When Cellbit goes silent for 10 whole minutes, Roier calls him. He's obsessed with the way he's being cold and rude. He still softens when he speaks to Roier though, so Roier decided to push his buttons. He goes to rescue Cellbit and calls him pet names he never uses, he keeps talking loudly when Cellbit clearly wants to concentrate, he teases Cellbit about his fighting skills and strength, he scares him twice and keeps hitting him until Cellbit screams for him to stop. His tone still isn't what Roier had seen him use with other people but it's good enough. He's asked Cellbit "do you trust me?" and Cellbit did not respond. He goes to sleep happy that day, they won and Cellbit is still stressed and cold towards him. He allows it when Roier lays down behind him and spoons him but he doesn't touch Roier back. Roier basks on it. He feels like he's found his jar of gold.

The next day Cellbit is back to normal. This time thought, when Roier tries to use the jealous thing again, Cellbit doesn't give a shit. He's concentrated in a different way today, they are barely wining and they know Tubbo won't let it go easily. Roier is also getting stressed so he can't even focus so much on getting Cellbit's attention, they win for a very very thin line but he's satisfied at the end. It wasn't the attention he wanted but he got Cellbit in his ear guiding him with his leader voice and giving him commands. That's the only time they had to talk that day. He misses Cellbit at the end of the day so he lays down with him again and they sleep cuddled this time. He feels like a well behaved dog being rewarded for pleasing his owner. Cellbit doesn't say a word to him.

There is the last event the next day. Roier arrives late and he gets greetings from Cellbit but everything is too messy to have real conversations. They fight and they hold their ground and they try. Roier sticks close to Cellbit and runs to help him when he calls for help. They kill a lot of people together and Roier realizes it took almost two weeks for them to put their plan to action. It doesn't feel the same, but it's good. They lose and Cellbit is frustrated but they blow themselves up at the end and it's the most fun he's had in a while. He laughs and he loves the way Cellbit looks insane when he plants the tnt.

The last day of purgatory starts with a fight between the two leaders. Philza wins and Bolas is the official winner of purgatory. And then, the eggs. And then, the earthquake. And then, the boat. When Roier notices Richarlyson is gone he turns his back and runs. He doesn't wait for anyone, he doesn't look back. He runs and runs and runs until he finally makes it. He's safe in the boat when he remembers. He calls for Cellbit twice on the chat. No response. He calls for him out loud but there's no sight of him. Then, he gets a goodbye message. Then, he gets the last te amo. Then, the boat is starting and they're leaving. Through the cameras on the boat they see a warning of a powerful explosion and radiation risk. It explodes and the Island is too far for Roier to see what's left of it. It's over...? Is he....?

Roier doesn't know how to react. He doesn't feel anything. He sits down the bench and stays there in silence until he arrives back in Quesadilla. He leaves the boat and goes home. He says nothing. No one mentions him, especially Roier.
He gets a new egg. He takes care of the egg. The same circle again. Losing and gaining, losing and gaining.... he's doing it again. Maybe he's cursed to it. He takes care of the fucking egg. He takes a shower, stops wearing his wedding ring and doesn't talk about it.

No one talks about it.

Notes:

i really wanted to include The Día De Los Muertos Incident but it would break the pacing unfortunately.
