The Northern Lights

Summary:

Who says work can't be fun?

Work Text:

The light coming through the window danced with colours as you looked up through the glass window, a mottle of greens and blues that flashed across the sky and reflected off the snow covered ground. Kate was next to you, half on her phone and half watching the same swirling patterns with a slight frown on her face as she read her email. "What's the matter, Honey?"

She sighed. "There's a storm coming, our flight's delayed." She took a deep breath and then smiled slightly. "I suppose it's not a bad thing. The conference will pay for our stay as long as we need, and I guess it gives us a chance to do all the touristy things."

Apparently, the powers that be thought that a trip to Canada to one of the best hotels in the area during the Northern Lights would be the best place to hold a conference on international democracy, but you were just grateful that Kate found a way to bring you along. "The 141 are running security, I think I can trick Simon into the reindeer activity."

She pressed her lips together to stop herself from laughing at the image of Simon with handfuls of hey and pointed to the sky. "It's snowing."

You looked up, and sure enough, flecks of snow were appearing on the roof. "That it is. I guess that means we'll be staying inside." That wasn't so bad, you could still get food delivered, and the glass igloo had all the amenities you would need, all you had to do was keep Kate from going stir crazy. You turned over and threw your arm over her body. "That might not be a bad thing, we can order hot chocolate and stew and maybe even chicken pot pie."

She smiled and shook her head slightly as if she wasn't going to indulge you anyway. "Alright, we should invite the others over, too. That way you can start working on Simon and your reindeer early." Her attention turned back to snowing sky and sighed. "Pot pie does sound really good."

You reached over and picked up the phone at the bedside and ordered room service, pot pie and one of every hot chocolate on the menu, then you called the 141 and asked them over after their shift. Since Kate had moved to London to work at the CIA field office, dinners with the 141 had become a regular occurrence, so you weren't surprised Kate wanted them over to your little igloo.

You pressed a kiss to her cheek and smiled. "We've got twenty minutes until the food gets here, what do you want to do to kill the time?"

She shot you a look, then leaned over to press the button on the bedside table that switched on the frosting of the glass. "I can think of a few things."
