Chapter Text
There was only 2 things Marinette hated. the first was school. I mean, of course she hates school, she's a 14 year old girl who would rather be partaking her hobbies. Not to mention how she never really got along with her classmates anymore. If there was anybody she still considered herself close too, it was Chloe and Nathaniel. Chloe was barley her friend though. They just exchanged pleasantries, sometimes ate lunch together and Marinette would bring her a chocolate covered croissant or something. And Nathaniel.....we'll get to that later.
The second thing Marrinette hated, were full moons. She was what Normies called 'A Monster' but to other outcasts she was just a werewolf. She hated Full moons because of her cramped room. She hated full moons because of her giant wolf muzzle and the locked windows and door and because of her sensitive ears that always end up aching due to the lively night of paris. She Hated full moons because of her instincts taking over and tearing into her sheets and pillows often.
Her parents would sympathize with her, they themselves weren't Werewolves, but they would always pity her.
Marrinete wouldn't change herself for the world though, and she's very proud of her history. When she showed signs of her wolf for the first time, her parents were told that they were unable to hide her werewolf from the normies so they 'know who they are dealing with and aren't surprised down the road'. They also insisted on treating her like a dog. Collars being worn in public, chew toys destributed, even names like ' Dog, and mutt' being thrown arround when Marinette went through her first full moon. Luckily Paris actually has a surplus of different Outcasts, and people had grown used to Sirens, Vamps, Werewolf's and others all mingling around the city.
This is exactly why Marinette woke up the last day of school, extremely grumpy the night after the full moon. Her giant muzzle left on the ground, as she stretched and cracked her bones. Looking around, she felt relieved that nothing of value had been torn up or broken.
Sighing, she headed to the bathroom to wash up and ready herself for school.
Take a shower.
Brush her canines.
Brush and put up her hair.
Get distracted by one of her squeaky toys.
Realize that she just wasted a few minutes playing like a dog.
Deny that she is not a dog and is a proud wolf and that THERE IS A DIFFERENCE!
Continue getting ready in a state of Denial.
Return to her room and clear up her things from last night.
Convince herself that she can make it through one final day of hell.
Marinette sighed as she pulled on her outfit. A blue plaited skirt with a black sweatshirt. She looked in the mirror, fixing her shirt collar to make sure that her stupid dog collar can be seen by the public. Slipping on fluffy white socks and putting on her sneakers, she trudged downstairs to meet the wary eyes of her Step-Father.
"I hope the moon was merciful last night Mari, you seemed more distraught than last transformation." Tom Dupain said as he rolled the early mornings second batch of croissants into shape.
"I'm fine Papa, if not a little sore" Marinette giggled as she kissed his cheek and took an orange from the fruit bowl. "But... I do feel a bit off, like ive forgotten something important"
Tom hummed and placed the tray of treats in the oven "Well, I'm no Werewolf expert so you'll have to ask your Maman."
Sabine Dupain-Cheng used to study outcasts and their backgrounds in The States, but after falling pregnant with a married man's child she left to France for a fresh start.
"I will Papa... maybe after school I can ask Dad to see if he knows!" Marinette smiled giving him a kiss on the cheek and heading for the door. "Say good morning to Maman for me!"
Making her way across the street to school, Marinette's smile fell as she felt dread pool at her stomach at the thought of entering that hellish class.
Stepping into the class, she was immediately pelted with multiple balls of paper. The bounced off harmlessly but she still felt annoyed at them. Laughter spread across the room as Marinette walked up the steps to sit beside Nathaniel, dodging multiple jutted feet as they tried to trip her.
Nathaniel flashed her a smile, his beautiful emerald eyes shining in the sun's light despite the bags around them. Marinette and him had gotten extremely close within the last few months. Marinette had only recently found out that he too was a werewolf and since then, her platonic instincts seemed to go into over drive. Her pupils might widen a bit and she would get a jittery feeling to protect him from any near predators. Since then the two had became pretty much inseparable.
"Morning Mari. Ready for the final day?" Nathaniel asked, returning his gaze to his sketch book.
"As ready as I'll ever be. I just hope the day goes by fast, I can't wait for my call with Dad." Marinette put her head on the table as Nathaniel pat her back soothingly.
There was silence between them, only the chatter of the class filled the room.
"Hey, do you ever get the feeling from your wolf were you've like, forgotten something?" Marinette asked as she sat up straight.
"Hmm, sometimes. But it usually goes away once I'm back in the safety of my home. Or sometimes If it doesn't go away, my parents allow me to stay in their den for a while."
Marinette hummed thoughtfully, and neither spoke after that.
The bell rang just as the laughter died down and Marinette brought out her own sketch book. Mme Bustier walked in and began a bore of a lecture about Paris and its history. Marinette tuned most of it out, but with a tap from Nathaniel, she tuned in just at the important part.
"Paris has many MANY famous tourist attractions and is one of the most visited cities in the world. Today I'll be assigning an essay to pass time about Paris and it's history. Remember that if you do it, it must be turned it by the end of the school day Before we start, does anybody have any interesting facts they'd like to share with the class about Paris' historic existance?"
Mme Bustier looked around the room calling a few names and nodding along to their blabber, before setting her eyes on Marinette.
"Marinette, do you have anything to add??" Mme Bustier asked gently, shushing any scoffs or ughs that were sent the girls way
"Uhm..." Marinette gave a glance around the room of scowls before looking back at her teacher. "Paris population is about 57% outcasts, which is one of the top 5 in the world for highest outcast count."
Mme Bustier's smile brightened, her eyes shining with what seemed as ocean like colors in them. A few students sat up straighter in their seats with a smile, seemingly proud of the fact.
"Well that's freakish."
Heads turned and smiles dropped, as people turned to Alya, who sat with her phone in hand.
"I mean, anyone who's seen anything on the internet knows that outcasts are dangerous and total freaks. Now I don't really feel safe knowing I could walk past a monster or two." Alya said pushing her glasses further up her nose.
Lila nodded "y-yeah! I saw a video of a Faceless creep that teamed up with a Vampire to terrorize a group of old women. I just know their all the same" she said cowering behind her hand.
The room sat in silence for a second or two before erupting in complete anger.
"Alya! How can you say something like that! It's insensitive to the outcasts of the world!" Mme Bustier said sternly "Apologize now!"
Alya scoffed "Theres no one to apologize to. Besides, what the weirdos don't know won't hurt them."
Juleka, who seemed more angry than anyone has ever seen her, spoke louder that a whisper for the first time in what might have been years. "Apologize to me! I'll know and it will hurt me! Do you know how tiring it is to be stereotyped constantly and deemed a monster for things you can't control!??"
Lila and Alya looked shocked at her outburst "Your a freak??!"
"Don't call her that!" Rose shrieked, jumping up from her seat and slamming her hands on the table. "She's not a freak, she just different!"
"Uh.. yeah babe- that's not really something to call a friend. Besides, you can't believe everything you see on the internet." Nino said nervously as he adjusted his hat.
"B-but they're d-d-dangerous and they can hurt people. I'm only saying I'm concerned for the well being and health of us 'normal' ones." Lila said, fake tears already blooming.
"It doesn't matter what you might have been concerned about. You can't say something like that. It's offensive and it can actually be counted as slander on a group or party, or even harassment in some parts of Paris" Marinette said, sending her own glare to the duo, being sure to bare her canines defensively.
Alya flinched at the sight of Marinette's defensive expression. Her eyes seemed to widen with the realization that she might not be surrounded by humans.
"I'm sure t-thats not true-" Lila started but was quickly cut off by Sabrina.
"Actually Marinette is correct. Due to a greater population of Outcasts to 'normies' there were several laws put into place to equally allow both parties to exist peacefully!" Sabrina pointed out from her task of filing Chloe's nails. "My dad says that he arrests people all the time for things like that"
Lila opened her mouth, likely to gaslight the class into believing that Marinette and Sabrina had joined forces to team up against her, but a hand slapped over her mouth.
"Y-you're right guys. We're sorry, and we'll watch what we say in the future." Alya swat dropped as she removed her hand from Lila.
Mme Bustier signed, before turning back to the chalk board and crossing out something. "Why don't we do an essay on outcasts and normies and how they are different but similar. Perhaps that will stop any future feuds that might happen because of this topic."
A mummer of agreement seemed to pass in the class room before the bell range for Lunch. Nathaniel placed a comferting hand on Marinette shoulder, giving a wide smile that showed off his tiny canine teeth.
Marinette pulled Nathaniel into a warm comferting hug, her wolf seemed to feel giddy at the show of comfort her friend gave.
Taking his hand, she led the two of them out the classroom and down the stairs to the courtyard, where they joined Chloe and Sabrina on one if the benches.
"Can you two believe that nonsense those two were sprouting?! Ridiculous! " Chloe fumed fixing the glasses that sat ontop of her head.
"They're lucky Alix slept in. She's not afraid to really show pride at her Wolf counterpart. " Sabrina added, setting Chloes bag aside to open her lunch up.
"I'm surprised Juleka spoke out. I forgot how soothing her voice is considering she hardly speaks!" Marinette said, watching Nathaniel start a sketch as she peeled her orange.
There was a beat of silence as they ate. Marinette pulled apart her orange and handed half to Chloe, who took it with a quiet thanks.
"Wait, is this the only thing you've had all day? Half an orange?" Chloe asked skeptically, eyeing the slice that Marinette had popped into her mouth. Sabrina glanced over but kept her head down while Nathaniel's head shot up.
"Uuuuuhhhhh......"
"Mari?? Is this true? " Nathaniel looked at her, as she shook her head frantically.
"You know you need a balanced diet of red meat Mari. I can't believe your doing this again." Nathaniel set his notebook on the bench and took Marinette by her bright pink Coller.
Marinette sent look to Chloe 'Help me PLEASE'
'Sorry, you did this your self' Chloe turned away facing Sabrina.
"This is the fourth time you've done this. Do I have to convince my parents to start sending you lunches again?" Nathaniel said as he dragged her to the cafeteria and led her to grab a lunch tray.
"No! They always add too much and then I end up wasting food because I can't eat it all."
Groaning, she piled meat onto her tray and a few greens before her collar was released.
"Nat" She whined as she trudged along side him. Not noticing her class give her glares as she passed them.
"The school meat is so disgusting, it's slimey and soggy and I don't want itttttt" Nathaniel rolled his eyes, sitting back down next two the other two, who didn't seem fazed in the slightest.
"Well, if you would eat outside of school, we wouldn't have this problem." Nathaniel said and handed her her spork.
"But it's so-"
"Easy! Don't you guys have a yearning for red meat. Isn't it just easier to just eat outside of school and not avoid it?" Sabrina asked.
"God I'm so glad I'm not a werewolf. I can't imagine eating that! It looks like it's still alive!" Chloe said looking pointedly at Marinette's lunch.
"Well we have stronger immune systems so we can eat live meat if we want to" Chloe gagged in the background. "But the school heats it up a bit and that kinda cooks it. Plus with our immune systems we don't get sick as often." Nathaniel said as he returned to his notebook.
Marinette opened her phone, holding it in her hand as she texted someone.
"It still sounds disgusting! I've never been so glad I was human. I don't have to stick to a diet and don't have to deal with simpletons like Lila hating on me" Chloe hmphed.
Just as Marinette went to take a bite of her food, her spork and tray was slapped out of her hands, her phone was also sent flying. Sighing Marinette looked up to meet Alyas eyes. She'd have to ask her parents for a new one....again.
"Yes Alya. How can I help yo-" A loud SMACK rang around the courtyard, causing gasps and eyes to look over.
Marinette blinked in suprise. Blinking as tears of pain sprouted in her eyes. Holding her stinging cheek, she looked back at Alya with a stunned look.
"IVE HAD IT WITH YOU THREATENING LILA. She was just looking out for the non outcasts in Paris! You don't have to threaten her with your freakish werewolf features over her concern!!" Alya spat out, her fists clenched and eyes hardened.
Marinette knew that her and Alya weren't on good terms, but Alya had never hit her. Ever.
A few nearing Werewolves growled lightly in warning, but Nathaniels was loudest.
"WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR DOING CESARE. " He bared his teeth in warning and instinctively jumped up in a defensive position.
"I'm tired of her bullying and assaulting Lila, I don't even know who you are anymore to be doing all this over a little school crush."
Marinette's tears started falling and when Alya raised her hand again, she flinched and let out a pitiful whimper that had the few Werewolves around rushing to comfort her.
"Marinette was here with us all of lunch, and you saw her when she was in class. Hitting her and accusing her with no proof is RIDICULOUS, UTTERLY RIDICULOUS!" Chloe stomped her foot and stepped forward, Sabrina following closely.
"Lila told me-" Alya began, glancing over hesitantly to Marinette, who was still being comforted by Nathaniel and two other Werewolves.
"Oh, Lila told you hmmm? Your just going to take her word with out proof. What kind of reporter believes things without evidence. I'm telling you that next week is when the world ends. You gonna believe that without looking into it, Tabloid??" Chloe snarled, eyeing Lila who stepped up next to Alya.
"B-but it's true! Marinette did tell me that if I don't leave Adrian alone, she'll bite me and hurt me!" Lila cried but she didn't shed tears.
"Adrien has been out of school for months! Shows what good friends you are to not notice! And why are you framing her, because she's different?? Why do you hate outcasts so much! You seem to hate them and I can't find a single reason why!" Mutters rang around the yard as Sabrina's words sank in.
"No need to yell so loud now.. it's no reason to start something." Alya glanced nervously at the crowd, already spotting a duo of Gorgons who glared in her direction.
"Oh now you want to be quiet? Puh-leese!" Chloe turned to the crowd of onlookers "you had no problem telling us earlier in class about how freakish the so called 'monsters' were. How dangerous Paris feels with how many of those freaks are around."
There was another round of Gasps as Aurore stepped forward, clearly unhappy.
"Alya. Is that really what you think of us, you think we're.... freaks" She looked hurt, as she looked at Alya from under her Parasol.
"Well- No! I- I just thought- It's not like that!" Alya looked around Desparatly at the crowd who looked on displeased.
Aurore frowned as she stepped forward again. "I know we're not close in any way Alya. But from one school mate to another, it hurts to be seen in such a bad light." Aurore gently stuck a hand out from the shade of her parasol and into the sun.
Her hand looked fine for a second or two, but soon it looked red and seemed to sizzle in the sunlight. "For me, even being on multiple shows on TV, even then I'm seen as Dangerous and different" she brought her hand back and held it to her chest.
Alya looked ashamed, but she still held her ground.
"People will always think badly of me and call me horrible things. But to hear it from someone you don't expect, like a classmate..." Aurore glared at Alya and turned away, Mireille rushing to catch up with her.
Marinette sniffed and stood with the help of her Werewolf helpers. She sent them grateful smiles as she wiped her tears.
Nathaniel was by her side instantly, allowing the others to walk away from her. He inspected her and took her hand, guiding her away from the scene and outside the school.
"Don't worry Mari, I'll take you home and explain to your parents what happened "
Nathaniel said as they approached the bakery.
Her eyes closed and felt heavy, instantly putting her to sleep.
