Mike awoke with a start, the silence of the midnight hour pressing against his eardrums. The room was enveloped in shadows, and a chilling breeze seemed to whisper through the curtains.
An unsettling feeling clawed at the edges of his consciousness. Something wasn't right. Darting his eyes across the room, he searched for any sign of disturbance.
The moon cast an eerie glow, revealing familiar shapes that offered no solace. His heart raced, but everything appeared normal. He chided himself for being paranoid.
As the minutes ticked by, the weight of the unseen gaze intensified. Mike's gaze darted from corner to corner, trying to pierce the darkness. The room seemed to close in, an oppressive atmosphere thickening the air.
His breath caught as he felt an inexplicable dread, that sensation of being observed by something unseen. He checked under the bed, peered into the closet, but each glance only fueled the fear gnawing at him.
Unable to shake the feeling, Mike decided to retreat beneath the covers, attempting to drown his unease in the false security of his blanket. He closed his eyes, trying to dismiss the paranoia that gripped his mind.
....
Morning sunlight spilled into the room, and Mike stirred from a restless sleep. The dread lingered, but the daylight offered a fragile sense of security.
Determined to shake off the lingering fear, he went downstairs. As he opened the mailbox, a chill ran down his spine.
Among the letters and bills lay several photos neatly arranged. His blood ran cold as he flipped through them.
Each one captured him sleeping in the dead of night, the angles suggesting an intruder.
In the middle of the stack, a note wrote on red ink stood out. It simply read:
"Good night :)"
