“You’re telling me… you’re dating Hitch?” Izzy exclaims loudly. Pipp looks away sheepishly and nods.
Sunny looks at Izzy, shocked, then turns to Pipp, “Hold up… what!?”
Pipp chuckles nervously and turns slowly to Zipp. Her sister’s jaw was wide open as she took a few seconds to compute what she just said. “So my little sister’s been dating one of our best friends for months… and you didn’t think to tell me? Or any of us?!”
Hitch and Pipp had been dating for a couple of months. They’d confessed their feelings for each other in private and agreed to start dating. Pipp can’t even remember them ever agreeing to tell ponies or keep it a secret - they just seemed to end up not doing so…
Hitch was a lovely boyfriend. Pedantic, yes. But very caring. He was always checking up on her to see if she was alright and it made Pipp’s heart all warm and fuzzy.
Things within the friendship group remained largely the same - they were always close friends first, then boyfriend and girlfriend - and it was nice being able to spend time with Hitch without it always being ‘romantic’ or a ‘date’.
Over time, however, Pipp began to recognise that whilst it was working for them, it felt a bit strange not letting anyone else in the friendship group know they were together. Of course, there was the risk that the other ponies knowing would make things weird, and the even bigger risk of Zipp going all ‘big sister mode’ but Pipp tried to push those thoughts away.
Surely avoiding these problems would be as good a solution as any… right?
Pipp, Zipp, Sunny and Izzy were all having a sleepover when the question of ‘crushes’ came up. Pipp chuckled and tried to play it off when the attention turned on her.
“Uh, sis, you’re acting really strange right now…” Zipp commented, staring inquisitively at Pipp.
“Oh, haha, what? Me?” Pipp chuckled nervously. “Nope. Everything is A-OK!”
Izzy smiled, as though everything Pipp was saying made perfect sense, but Sunny and Zipp looked unimpressed.
Sunny’s eyes suddenly brightened up and a grin spread across her face. “OMG! Pipp! Do you have a crush?”
Pipp coughed awkwardly into her hoof. “Nope. No. Not at all.” She laughed loud and unconvincingly.
Izzy gasped just as loudly and pointed her hoof out at Pipp. “Tell. Us. Who.” She commanded, somewhat jokingly.
Zipp stared at her sister carefully and shook her head. “I don’t think this is just a crush… Detective Zipp thinks it's something else!”
“You mean…” Sunny’s eyebrows raised higher than Pipp thought was possible. “Sweet Celestia! Pipp is dating somepony?”
Pipp’s face immediately dropped. “Woah, woah, you guys. Calm down.”
“Oh wow, she really is, I can see that blush clear as day,” Sunny added.
Izzy moved nearer to Pipp, getting all up in her face. “Who? Tell us who. Who. Who. Who. Who. WHO. WHO. WHO. WHO. WHO!”
“Ahhhh! It’s Hitch, OK!” Pipp blurted out, then immediately covered her mouth with her hoof. unfortunately, the damage had already been done.
“You’re telling me… you’re dating Hitch?” Izzy exclaimed loudly. Pipp looked away sheepishly and nodded.
Sunny looked at Izzy, shocked, then turned to Pipp, “Hold up… what!?”
Pipp chuckled nervously and turned slowly to Zipp. Her sister’s jaw was wide open as she took a few seconds to compute what she just said. “So my little sister’s been dating one of our best friends for months… and you didn’t think to tell me? Or any of us?!”
“Well it… I suppose it never came up in conversation?” Pipp tried, with a forced grin. Zipp huffed and turned away. She grabbed her phone and tried to call Hitch up. It rang and rang but he never picked up.
“He’s terrible with phones,” Pipp commented sardonically, then cringed when Zipp glared at her.
“Well of course you’d know that, as his girlfriend!” Zipp bit back.
Suddenly a noise could be heard from the front door. Sunny ran over to open it and there stood Hitch at the other side.
“Just the colt we’ve been looking for,” she said sarcastically.
Hitch looked at Sunny, then a sheepish-looking Pipp and an angry-looking Zipp.
“Did I… uh, miss something?” He asked slowly.
Zipp rolled her eyes. “I think we’re the ones who missed something.”
“Really Zipp, I’d been meaning to tell you all, but we weren’t sure how you’d react. We didn’t want to make anything awkward between the group-”
“But I’m your sister, Pipp!” Zipp countered. “You’re supposed to tell me about these things…”
“I know,” Pipp sighed, then looked up at Hitch and offered a small smile. Hitch returned a small one too and walked towards the group.
“Really Zipp, we’re sorry. I hope you understand…” Hitch agreed.
“Oh, my sister can do whatever she wants. She wants to date you? Fine,” Zipp said with an easy smile. Relief immediately washed over Pipp and Hitch’s face. However, she leaned in closer to Hitch and whispered in his ear. “But believe you me, Hitch, if you do anything to her you will not be the colt you were before…”
Hitch’s ears bristled at the threat and he gulped before nodding.
“Well, now that that’s all sorted…” Sunny hummed, looking hesitantly at Hitch who was getting intensely stared at by Zipp. “Hitch, would you like to join our sleepover?”
Hitch, despite the sweat running down his face from Zipp glaring at him, grinned and sat down with the others. “I thought you’d never ask!”
They all giggled at that, even Zipp.
