Chapter Text
Nimona knew that going through this part of the city as a human would get her arrested, if not killed, so she decided to not shift from being a dog, she had rolled around in dirt to appear brown, which got her treats. As she skittered through the worn down streets, she heard a puppy whimpering in the alleyway, “Oh your ‘ortible lil mutt is so dead,” A male, teenaged voice said. She turned into the alley, she saw two teenage boys, one short and heavyset, with bright orange hair in a buzz cut, the other tall and lanky, his black hair shoulder length, they both had dirty clothes and held baseball bats, “Please, don’t hurt him, h-he’s my only friend,” A young voice trembled.
“Oh, this little mutt stole our food, he ain't gettin’ away,” The ginger boy said, picking up a beagle puppy, he prepared for a large swing of his bat. Nimona leapt in the air, biting his arm, making him drop the bat, “Let go bitch!” He yelled, shaking his arm to make her let go, dropping the puppy, who scurried back to the alley wall, she bit harder, then kicked off his side, his fat arm still stuck in her jaws, dislocating his shoulder. He wailed, “Let’s go, this mutt is scary,” the boys went on there way as quickly as possible.
“Thank you, sweet puppy,” The young voice said, Nimona looked at the back of the alleyway, a young boy cuddled the small dog, he had long, dirty black hair, dirtier clothes, his black eyes brimmed with tears. Nimona slowly walked over to him, sniffing cautiously, she then got really close to the boy’s face, then licked it, it tasted like dirt and peanut shavings. The boy giggled petting the top of her head, then jumped up, “I have to go, Gregy is probably worried,” He cradled the pup before running off.
Nimona smiled to herself before transforming into a sparrow and flying over the wall to the woods.
