Work Text:

Its 4 am, raining outside. Some leaves keep brushing against windows from the wind and it's panicking Vannessa. She sneaks out of bed and away from Mike. Opening her nightstand to pull out her gun, she grabs it. Closing the nightstand, she goes into the hallway. checking the ammo and making sure she has ammo. She does. She makes her way to the front door, being slow and quiet. Her brain is full of panicking thoughts. So out of it, she doesn't notice the bathroom door open from behind her. Quiet soft footsteps occurred. A creek ran through the house. Vannessa, who was too freaked out to process anything brought 0 hesitations to whip around and fire her gun. Once. Twice. Three times.

A scream ran through the house, one that snapped Vanessa out of her occurring thoughts and stared ahead. Abby was sitting on the floor, shaking. There was blood. So much of it. Pooling on the floor. Vannessa stared down at her. Dropping the gun from her hands. She could hear as Abby let out sobs and said how it hurt. Vanessa couldn't move- it was like she was frozen in a spot. Just like her nightmare. “ABBY!” A voice yelled. Mike. Oh crap Mike- how was he going to react? She watched as Mike ran towards his baby sister, dropping down to his knees to hold her. Abby sobbed against Mikes's chest, the blood pooling under the two, staining the carpet under them. “VANESSA- CALL AN AMBULANCE!” Mike screamed at her- Vanessa couldn't move. She just stared, her knees giving out on her as she fell to the floor.

She clasped a hand over her mouth in shock as tears ran down her cheeks. “VANESSA!! CALL A FUCKING AMBULANCE-” Mike screamed at her again- only then could Vanessa scramble up to stand. Grabbing the land line and jambling 911. She put the phone to her ear, waiting for the phone to be picked up. Eventually, it did. It felt like forever before the words; “911 what is your emergency?” It was a woman's voice- one Vanessa recognized. “MILLIE- I HAVE 3 GSW’S TO THE CHEST.” She yelled, looking over at Abby and Mike. She could see Abby crying- laying on the floor as her hands laid on her stomach- Mikes's hands were laying on top of hers. She could see Mike was speaking to Abby, but she couldn't make out what he was saying. “Vanessa? YOU WERE SHOT?” She heard her friend say. “NO- NO! NOT ME- ABBY. ABIGAL SCHMIDT-” Vanessa screamed at her friend. “Okay- okay, Vanessa breathe honey. Tell me where you are.”

Millie instructed Vanessa. Vanessa couldn’t breathe. She wanted to scream at Millie for even saying those words to her. But she couldn’t. “We’re at Mikes's house!” Vanessa yelled. “Vanessa baby I don't know where that is.” Millie's voice came through, tears were streaming down Vanessas' face and she was choking out sobs. “OKAY- Okay! We’re at 103 SouthNorth Street.” [idk if that's an actual house or not-] Vanessa said quickly. She could hear Millie typing. “Alright, I’ve got an ambulance on the way they’ll be there in about 7 minutes.” Millie's voice came through. Vanessa nodded even though Millie wouldn't see it. “7 minutes, is she still awake?”

Vanessa choked out to Mike. Mike nodded, Vanessa looked at him, he had blood on his hands and on his shirt. They weren't too far from her. “Vanessa honey I want you to grab some towels and apply pressure to the wound.” She could hear Millie's voice come through, shuffling to a closet and putting the phone down, letting it hang there. She ran towards Mike and Abby. Sitting down on the floor. Abby was sobbing. “Abby- baby this is gonna hurt okay?” Vanessa stammered out, Abby sobbed harder. She was so scared. Mike brought a bloody hand to Abby's cheek.

“Abbs look at me okay? It's okay it's okay- I’m right here don’t worry.” He said to her, Abby opened her eyes to look at him. Her eyes widened as pain shot right into her wounds. Nearly screaming in pain, Abby grabbed onto Mikes's arm. Sobbing loudly as she kicked her feet against the carpet- it was excruciating to watch. Vanessa let out a gentle sob as Abby begged her to let go- to let Abby bleed but Vanessa couldn't. Vanessa had to strain her ears as Millie said “5 minutes.”, Millie's voice shook. Vanessa felt guilty, she hurt Abby, hurt Mike, hurt Millie, and was forcing Millie to listen as Abby screamed in pain.

“PLeASE- IT HURTS!-” Abby sobbed out, her voice cracking as she dug her nails into Mikes's's arm as she sobbed out. She kicked her feet against the carpet giving her feet a rug burn. “Abby- ABBY- listen to me okay? Listen to my voice- I’m right here baby I’m right here.” Mike stammered out. Abby sobbed as she looked over at Mike- her tears running down her cheeks. “The ambulance is almost here baby. It's okay. You’ll be okay.” Vanessa stammered out, she noticed something. Abby's face was extremely pale. Her eyes slowly shut, fluttering closed. She seemed like she just paused. “Abby?” Mike said out loud, shaking her.

“ABBY!” Mike started shaking her more. Vanessa scrambled up to check Abby's pulse. It was there, but Vanessa couldn't feel it. “She's dead,” Vanessa mumbled. Mike stared at her, scooping Abby's legs onto his left arm and using his right arm to scoop Abby up. Rocking back and forth, Mike let out loud sobs. Begging, pleading, and sobbing for his sister to come back. The pounding was heard on the front door. “The ambulance is here.” Vanessa stammered out, scrambling and making a run towards the door. Opening it as the EMTs came into the house. Going towards Mike and Abby, one of the EMTs ripped Abby out of Mikes's arms. She put her small body onto a stretcher before carrying it out. Mike sat on the floor, on his hands and knees, and letting out sobs. Vanessa stood there, unable to speak. “We need to… go to the hospital..” She whispered, Mike was uncontrollably sobbing. He just supposedly lost his sister. Vanessa stumbled towards Mike, putting her hands on his shoulders to gently lift him up. He complied- standing up and leaning against her. She brought him towards the car, scooping up shoes as she did so. She put him into the passenger side, rushing back inside to grab the keys and then back to the car. She started up the car. As the car was starting up, she reached over to buckle in Mike, then buckled herself in. She pulled out of the parking lot and drove to the hospital following the ambulance.

They made it there safely. Pulling into a parking spot and parking. They both quickly got out of the car and RAN to the doors. Immediately going to the front desk and speaking out; “ABIGAL SCHMIDT!” Mike yelled the front desk woman jumped. Looking at him in confusion sir. “I’m sorry sir I don't think I have any information on her.” The woman spoke. “JUST- CHECK!” Mike yelled at her, the woman frowned a bit before typing on her computer. “Surgery. You can wait in the waiting room.” Mike was anxiously chewing on his nails. Sighing heavily he reluctantly walked to the waiting room to sit. They sat there for what felt like forever. Until a doctor came out of a room, calling their names. “Micheal Schmidt?” Mike rushed up and over, rubbing his eyes tiredly. “Yeah that's me- I’m here for Abigal.” He was exhausted, he had woken up to screaming and was now in an overstimulation nightmare.

“I’m very sorry sir, but unfortunately, Abigal was unable to make it through the surgery. One bullet punctured her heart not in the middle but on the side of it, she didn't die immediately due to the fact that it was still but in the ambulance, it punctured deeper. One other bullet was lodged into her spinal cord, which paralyzed her, and the other bullet just barely missed her lungs. We tried everything we could, I’m very sorry sir.” Mike stood there, everything felt like like it was in slow motion. Like someone had hit a pause button on his movements, his knees felt like they were giving out, so he stood in a spot and didn’t move. “No. No, no, no, no, no. you’re joking, right? There's- there’s gotta be a mistake-” Mike stammered out, unable to believe that his last family member. “No sir I’m sorry but I am being honest. She’s gone.” The doctor repeated, Mike stood there, tears streaming down his face. He clasped a hand over his mouth as his legs gave out under him. He sat on the floor on his knees, sobbing loudly. Vanessa was standing next to him, the guilt and sadness flooding into her mind and heart.
