Chapter Text

"Did you hear? Someone apparently stole Jimmy’s painting."

"That ugly self portrait?"

"Bro, shut up; he might hear."

Jimmy stormed into the classroom angrily, with Jack stuck to his side.

Both of them clearly didn't look like they were in the mood for pointless chatter.

"Can't you just make another one?" Jack asked.

Jimmy sighed, clearly frustrated.

"I can't just let the fucker that took my sh*t off easily," Jimmy snarled, looking around the class to see if anyone looked suspicious.

When everyone in the room thought the atmosphere couldn't get any worse, a new figure appeared in front of the door with the missing painting in hand.

The painting was vandalized and had crude drawings all over the sheet of paper.

"Uh, I think this belongs here," You addressed loud enough to gather the attention of the whole class.

"A girl? Why is she here?"

"Screw that; why does she have his painting?"

"Man, Jimmy isn't the type to let a girl off for touching his shit.

“Too bad, she's cute too."

"Hah?" Jimmy menacingly walks up to you, grabbing the painting and throwing it back like it was garbage, which could be argued.

Jimmy didn't care about the drawing anymore; he was focused on who you were and who put you up to taking his drawing.

"Speak, why'd you take my drawing?" Jimmy grabbing your collar roughly.

The class watched with anticipation as they waited to see how far Jimmy would go.

Jack appeared a bit on guard.

He didn't want to see a girl get beaten up in front of him, but he didn't think Jimmy was the type to beat a girl up without a proper reason, and it could be argued that this was a proper reason.

Jack thought he might have to step in if things went too far, since he noticed the other classmates wouldn't help.

As everyone had their eyes on both you and Jimmy, you groaned audibly with annoyance, catching Jimmy off guard.

You didn't mean to sound that unhappy with the situation, but it seems like you made Jimmy angry.

"I didn't take your drawing. I found it in the trash can that’s in front of school." You reveal.

Jimmy didn't look like he was buying it, nor did the rest of the class.

"You expect me to believe that bullshit excuse?" Jimmy scoffed with annoyance.

"Yeah, cause that's what happened," you answer with an equal amount of annoyance.

"You—" Jimmy was now more than angry.

You naturally hate being accused of something you didn't do, but this situation was insulting because you just tried to return the drawing.

Jimmy seemed to be restraining himself from lashing out further than he already was, which you appreciated.

"I'm being honest! There should be security cameras or something." you pressure.

Jimmy seemed to think about it before pressing you further.

"Why did you take the painting out of the trash can?" Jimmy asked.

"Uh, well," you say, looking away awkwardly.

"Say it!" Jimmy pressured impatiently.

"I thought it looked cute," you mumbled.

"Huh?" Jimmy appeared shocked. This wasn't the answer he expected.

You were visibly embarrassed. You were put on the spot and believed it was best to simply reveal the truth.

"I said I thought the painting looked nice. I liked how it looked and wanted to keep it. I walked into class with it and was told you were looking for it," you begin.

"I thought you threw it away yourself, so I figured if you didn't want it, I could have it," you say, looking away to avoid his piercing gaze, analyzing you to see if you were lying.

“I only came here to return it because I heard you were losing your mind over it.” You add.

"You think he's cute or the painting?" A classmate shouted.

Students expected Jimmy to look back at the student and beat him up for asking such a question, but Jimmy looked at you for an answer.

To confess to someone is a risk that not many take effortlessly, especially in front of a whole group of people.

Jimmy let go of your collar and waited to hear your answer. He wore a smirk that looked forward to what you had to say.

You could judge a situation pretty well, so you could tell that if you confessed, things might go well in your favor.

The thing is, you just found out about him. It wasn't a long-term crush.

Sure, you thought he was attractive, but you didn't even know enough about him to confess.

'The person only asked if I thought he was cute, not if I wanted to date him' you reminded yourself, making you calm again.

"Uh.. He's cute. He's not ugly; he has a certain charm about him," you answer honestly.

"I'm going to go now," you say awkwardly, turning your back and walking out.

"Wait," Jimmy called out.

You didn't stop and put your other foot down to walk away, but your arm was grabbed.

"I said wait," Jimmy called in a more serious tone.

You turned around and came face-to-face with Jimmy. Your noses were touching.

Your eyes widen with surprise as Jimmy puts his arm around your shoulder.

"What—?" You look at him with confusion, to which he responds with an arrogant smirk.

"What? You wanted me to like you, right?" Jimmy smirked.

"No," you answer immediately.

"No?" Jimmy furrows his brows with a look of confusion and annoyance.

"Err, I mean, I didn't think you'd respond like this." You laugh awkwardly.

"Why? You confessed; didn't you expect something like this?" Jimmy asked.

'I didn't confess though!' You thought

"You just didn't seem like the type to be into relationships," you counter.

Jimmy smiles.

His smile looked different from the smirk he showed earlier. This one seemed like it was reassuring you.

"I'm not, but what am I supposed to do when a cute girl confesses her feelings to me so wholeheartedly?" Jimmy grabs your chin with his hand, gripping you so you are looking at him.

'It wasn't even a confession, but if it was, he should have rejected me!'

You were stuck with wide eyes. This was unexpected and something you weren’t sure how to feel about.

The class watched with an o-shaped mouth. They couldn't believe Jimmy was being so forward, especially since you didn't even confess.

The students looked at you with pity. Jack looked at Jimmy with shock; this was a new side of him, though he still held the same arrogance.

"Your phone." Jimmy has his hand out.

"Why?" You ask, getting your phone out.

"So I can keep your number," Jimmy responds, taking your phone and creating contact for himself.

There were no names in your contacts besides your family. That's all.

Jimmy smirked.

"Good, nobody else has your number. Keep it that way," Jimmy said, handing back your phone.

Jimmy handed you his phone to add your number to it.

You took his phone and began writing your number, still so uneasy about the entire situation.

He had a few contacts, but no girls; the only woman was his mother.

"Call me later. I'll take you out to eat or something," Jimmy says, walking over to his painting.

"You can keep it if you like it so much. Have it as your wallpaper," Jimmy grinned.

You found this funny.

"Pfft. I will. I'll even add it as your contact photo," you smiled.

Jimmy didn't understand whether you were making fun of him or not, but that confused look on his face was cute enough for you to snap a picture.

"Hey—!" Jimmy called out, but you were already leaving fast.

"Cya later!" You yell, gripping the painting with one arm and your phone with the other.

'This might not be so bad. This could be something to try out. He doesn't seem too bad,' you smile softly.

"Jimmy, you know she didn't confess to you, right?" Jack questioned, appearing a bit uneasy.

Jimmy had an evil grin on his face.

"Of course I know. Did you see her face? She looked so scared." Jimmy laughed.

"Are you just playing around with her?" A classmate asked.

Jimmy furrowed his brows. He didn't actually know what he was doing with you.

"Yeah," Jimmy shrugged.

"You're not planning on stringing her along, are you? What if she actually ends up liking you?" Jack inquired.

"Huh? What are you talking about? Since we're dating now, I'm giving this relationship shit a shot." Jimmy revealed.

"Huh? But you just said you were playing with her," Jack pointed out.

"I can play around with her while also trying to have a relationship. Seeing her reactions is cute — funny. They're fun to watch," Jimmy corrected.

Jack felt a bit more relieved to hear that he wouldn't have to stand by and watch his friend break a girl's heart.

You heard the entire conversation on your phone.

When Jimmy gave you his phone to type in your number, you used it as a chance to send out a call, which you accepted.

You knew you'd leave, and they would most likely talk, so you wanted to hear what was said.

If he noticed, you could say you miss-clicked and accidentally answered the call and sent one out as well.

You hung up, hoping Jimmy wouldn't check his call logs.

This was going to definitely be a learning experience for both of you.

Jack noticed Jimmy's phone lit up, which was a result of you hanging up, but nothing showed a sign of your call on screen, so he didn't give it a second thought.
