Work Text:
Ness stares at the message, deciding if he should really do it. There is a website open in front of him, teasing him with their discount.
Could that guy read minds? There can be no mere coincidences that he got that particular text right at that moment. It must be magic. Or fate? Even some other divine intervention. He wonders, if his family could explain it, if there is a science behind it. Or if they would laugh and just tell him to leave it, to not believe in such childish, outlandish concepts.
It’s a simple message, however it means a lot to one Alexis Ness.
Bienchen <3: Miss you >u<
The next day, Ness stepped out of the Barcelona airport, the warm air hitting his face.
What was he even doing? Yes, it was the summer break. He was free to do whatever he liked.
Still, he should be training, making sure to stay fit. He wouldn’t want to lose his regular spot in the team. Though, there was something that had been pulling him here, towards the city, towards Spain. He remembers that Isagi called him a lovesick fool. As if that guy was any better, the only thing he was better at, was showing it less. They were both lovesick fools.
He hears a loud “NESS-CHAN!”, shouted across the entrance. A few people turn around at the commotion and the taxi driver shoots the man a dirty look. Ness feels like thousands of fireworks are exploding inside of him, leaving him giddy. Bachira jumps into his waiting arms and they both spin around. Their giggles merge in one melody, the sound ringing in his ears. He sets Bachira back onto the ground and pecks his lips quickly, before taking his luggage and going towards the train station.
Bachira watched him, swore that someone put dynamite into his body, and ran after Ness, a wide smile stretching across his face. When he catches up, he takes Ness’s hand and intertwines them. The loneliness had been eating him up, tearing at his confidence, and he had, without much thought, confided in Ness.
What he didn’t expect was the reaction to his little slip up.

Ness-chan: Everything is already packed, come pick me up tmrw?
Whenever the others in the team used to talk about their crushes, Ness would stay silent and observed. Their behaviour and opinions were so different from home. His siblings had told him all about love, what it does to the brain and the body, the scientific facts. He had only learned about the other side of love from books. The romanticised side it has, the one where you stay by your partners side. The us against the world mentality.
When he gets asked about his type, Ness shrugs and the other boys quickly move on from him. Thou, Ness thinks about a boy, the one in his dreams. How he runs towards him, seemingly screaming. He can’t hear any words that are being said. But the boy is pretty and has a captivating aura. Ness had tried to move towards him, however as soon as he get close enough to catch a glimpse of the others face, he wakes up.
Some classmates ask him if he has a crush on someone. Ness hesitates at first, then nods slowly. The class freaks out, trying to find out who had stolen Ness’s heart. He doesn’t have the courage to say, that he is not even sure if his crush actually exists.
Doch manchmal träum' ich nur von dir
Bitte sag, was muss ich tun, dass du mich hörst?
De
When Ness turns five, he meets a boy in his dreams.
He looks lonely, sitting on the ground of wherever they are. There are tears running down his cheeks. The boy looks a bit younger than him. Their eyes meet and Ness is electrified by the yellow that stares back at him. The boy gets up and comes towards him, his mouth moving. No sounds reach Ness, who in turn begins to feel something akin to panic rise inside of him.
Was this a bad omen? Was he cursed to not hear anything?
He wakes up.
This frequency of that dream varies greatly, sometimes there are multiple ones in a month and then there’s silence for weeks. It makes the uneasiness in ness grow greatly, who firmly believes that he is cursed. His family laughs at him.
The believe of being cursed stays, but for a different reason. He now believes that he is cursed to meet that beautiful boy in his dreams, without being able to talk or touch him. There is a voice starting to form in his head, that tell him that he is just imaging it, that the boy is a figment of his imagination and not a real person.
He screams at the boy, wanting to be heard. Wanting to see if this is real.
He wakes up.
The day, when he is scouted by Bastard München, he looks at the sky. Maybe the boy is also staring at the midday sky, which hits his skin full force. He really hopes that they share the same sky.
Somewhere in Chiba, stars slowly started to form in the sky. Bachira stares and searches for constellations. He wonders about the boy in his dream, about magenta eyes and magenta hair, mixed with brown.
He feels less lonely. He took the ball by his feet and dribbles his way home.
Due to being good at football and playing for a professional team, he had a lot of people, girls, and boys alike, trying to get into his pants. Often, they wanted to be with him so that they could boast, show off what they could pull. Ness rejected them all, his heart had already been gifted to a boy with no voice. A boy, that might not even exist.
The invitation from blue lock promises a new challenge, a new adventure. Kaiser wanted to go and meet their poster boy. Therefore, Ness went there as well, following Kaiser, always a step behind.
There was a small voice, a glimmer of hope that he might meet the boy of his dreams. That hope gives him strength, no matter how foolish it sounds.
Blue Lock is promising, Ness wouldn’t lie. Their group lacks teamwork but has the right amount of competitiveness. Their poster boy has Kaiser wrapped around his finger, and both Kaiser himself and Yoichi haven’t realized that fact yet.
He looks forward to the match against FC Barcha, having played against their team a few times already. It was promising to become entertaining.
They are waiting for Barcha to emerge from their side of the field. He hears the blue lock boys exclaim something, their voices merging together in Ness ears. His eyes meet yellow, a sunny smile and an aura that screams confidence. He stares at the teenager, until his mind finally catches up.
Instead of only seeing the outline of something akin to a face he can see it clearly now. The boy from his dreams is here, in front of him. Ness takes the chance and interacts with him while playing, finally attaching a voice to the boy he dreams of.
There is only one factor that damps Ness happy and slightly mischievous mood. The boy can’t understand him. Thanks to the translators, he understands the other but not vice versa. Ness can reply and tease him as much as he wants, there is only a slight reaction from his opponent.
Which teaches Ness that the boy is intelligent enough to understand the tone that he was using, he smiles before dribbling past.
He learns later that the boy's name is Bachira. Bachira Meguru to be exact.
Blue lock becomes an experience, one that he simultaneously wants to forget and to keep close to his heart. There are multiple reasons for that. Most of them tie back to one person.
Bachira Meguru, the boy from his dreams.
It seems like he doesn’t know Ness, even though they had met countless times by now. Considering that most of their meetings had happened in their dreams. Or had it just been Ness, that had dreamt about the other.
The longer he goes without an acknowledgement by the bee boy, the more he starts to believe that he had just imagined things. That these dreams were really just dreams, nothing more. That there wasn’t any magic or fate involved. His brain had just conjured another boy that happened to look like the one that is in their stratum now.
He is with Isagi, playing and laughing. Ness turns his head to watch Kaiser. There is something in his eyes as well, a fire, something like a desire. However, as soon as he spots Ness staring, Kaiser gets rid of that spark.
Another spark within Kaiser dies, as they get further into the NEL. He becomes fixated on beating the poster boy, the heart of blue lock. In some was it pains Ness, to see how Kaiser runs himself straight into the pits of despair. Or is it hell? At this point, it’s hard to tell the difference. It temporarily distracts him from his other problem, the one that normally belongs into the Spain stratum.
Ness knows that he had fallen in love even more when he saw Bachira in person for the first time. He fell harder, when he heard his voice. If this would be a battle, Ness would have already lost hopelessly. It took one smile from Bachira to render him useless.
It also only takes one weird look from Bachira, to send Ness into a spiral. He understood the question he had asked Isagi clear as day. Bachira had asked, why he was called the magician.
There is silence from his companions, plural by now, because Isagi attracts players like moths are drawn to light. That’s when their eyes meet, Magenta and yellow. Then Bachira scrunches his nose up and turns again to Isagi. The action send Ness into a spiral, and he leaves the field in a hurry.
He doesn’t hear Bachira say that he thinks that the nickname fits him. Bachira also admits that he thinks that the German boy is cute. There is a blush spreading on his cheeks when the teasing from his friends starts. They didn’t see each other for a while after that.
A few weeks later, the NEL is officially done. While Japan now had their u-20 representatives chosen, the foreign teams would go back and continue their lives at home. The reaction from those involved are quite different. There are those, who are happy to go back, to return to what they know and like. On the other side are a few that would have liked to stay. To get to know the blue lock members more and to actually explore Japan. Ness stands somewhere in between.
He watches as Kaiser and Isagi argue about something, their bickering loud enough for those that walk by, who in turn give them a questioning glance. Then they both stop with their argument and Kaiser fishes out his phone from the bag at his side. He grins and holds it out to Isagi, a challenge in his eyes. Isagi lets out a defeated sigh and starts typing in his number.
Ness would have continued to watch their interaction if there wasn’t a distraction. Someone had tapped his shoulder, and he turns away from the two in front of him. Yellow meets magenta. Bachira stands there, fidgeting while rocking back and forth on his feet. Ness smiles and tils his head, silently asking him what he wants.
Instead of receiving a verbal answer, Bachira throws the phone his way. Ness catches it, although a bit startled and sees that the contact page is open. There are a few kanji at the name field, probably meaning his Name. Ness hesitates for a few seconds before putting the numbers in.
All that happened while Bachira’s expectant gaze remains on. It slightly unnerves him. There is also a part of him that feels flattered, that enjoys the attention, which is given to him by the bee boy.
Bachira and Ness see each other quite a few times over the next five years. Either they meet at matches or when they are on breaks, when visiting friends and family. It gives them opportunities to grow closer, to understand each other more.
It works out in their favour. After a while, they became close friends. Though, they never talk about the dream, about how they somehow knew each other since they were little.
They also talk about their past. Bachira learns about Ness family, about him and Kaiser and how they become a duo. How he got the nickname magician.
In turn, Ness learns about Bachira’s loneliness, about the monster, his mother, and how Blue Lock had given him his first set of friends.
They both talk about how Blue Lock changed them, for better and worse. It is something they can discuss for hours, exchanging stories with each other. Somewhere between all these conversations they become a couple.
It takes one visit from Bachira to Germany for Ness to finally confess, after years of longing.
Ness is thriving, when walking through the snow covered city and holding Bachira’s hand. The warmth that they joined hands give, warm ness up more than his gloves ever could.
They share the news with their friends soon after, who are ecstatic. They all just laugh together. Ness enjoys coming to his apartment after practise and seeing Bachira in his kitchen, singing along to Cro songs. He butchers the German pronunciation horribly, but Ness can’t help but laugh.
When they get together, they also break their silence about the topic of dreams. It was actually Bachira who brought the topic up. One thing led to another and it becomes clear that they both had been dreaming about each other all this time, cursed to never see or hear each other.
Ness has to leave Barcelon again, after staying for almost a week. He had a team to return to, although he would rather stay here. Bachira brings him to the airport and does his best not to cry when he walks through the gates. There are a dozen messages on his phone not even five minutes after they separated. Ness takes his time to answer each one separately.
He returns to his apartment in Munich, tired and exhausted after the week. He responds to a few texts he got from his team, which includes Isagi. Their relationship had improved, given that they had one thing in common now. It wasn’t unusual to hear Isagi talk about Kaiser in Madrid and Ness about Bachira in Barcelona, gushing about their respective partners. It becomes their bonding moment and Ness would say that they are some kind of friends now.
Ness hits the bed as soon as he sends a goodnight text to Bachira. Thanks to his journey, he falls asleep within a short time. At first his dream is a weird one, that he couldn’t quite place.
Then a white wall starts to crumple, turning into puzzle pieces before falling apart. Behind the wall is a familiar figure, their back turned to him.
Ness takes the last few steps, feeling it in his bones that something had changed. The dream is different from all the ones he used to have. It unnerves and excites him at the same time.
He uses his nickname to call out for Bachira. To his surprise and delight the other whirls around. Big yellow eyes stare back at him. Then he finds himself engulfed in a hug, his nickname falling from his boyfriend's lips. Ness holds him tightly.
They could finally hear and fully see each other, their bond pulling them towards one another
They are content.
