Work Text:
The maternity ward of the private hospital is eerily quiet. The waiting room has all the drinks and snacks they could want, but no one is touching them.
“Do you think everything’s okay?” asks Roman finally, tapping his foot against the chair leg.
“Yeah. She probably just wants to look her best when we see her,” says Kendall.
“She had an easy birth by the sounds of it,” says Shiv, sounding a little jealous.
“I can’t believe we’re getting another sibling.” Roman actually sounds excited. “I used to ask Santa for a little brother.”
“Thanks,” say Kendall and Shiv together.
“Well, one in, one out,” says Connor. The others look at him in confusion and he clears his throat. “I was reading through some old letters of Dad’s, and it turns out my mom was quite popular back in the day. There was doubt over my paternity. So, I might not be your brother after all.”
A long silence follows this, then Kendall says quickly, “That’s bullshit, Con.”
“Yeah, you’re our brother no matter what,” Roman interjects.
“But we can get a DNA test if you want,” says Shiv, ever the pragmatist. “Two for one, right?” She nods in the direction of the next room.
The door opens and a nurse sticks her head in. Roman immediately jumps up. “She’s ready to see you all now.”
“Everyone be nice,” Roman orders as they start to make their way down the corridor.
“Okay, Oedipus.” Shiv kicks him in the back of the leg.
Kerry is sitting on a chair in the room, a baby in her arms. Roman approaches her first, giving her an awkward half-hug. Kendall and Shiv mutter half-hearted greetings.
“So this is the new messiah?” Connor looks at the baby, who has a shock of black hair and looks nothing like their father.
“Yep.” Kerry holds up the baby proudly. “Meet Logan Junior.”
