Chapter 1: Bookshop

Chapter Text

"Wukong you can't just LEAVE! WE HAVE A CHILD! DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW LONG YOU'LL BE GONE?!"

Macaque shouted, angry growl evident in their voice.

Wukong would not take this level of disrespect.

"HOW DARE YOU SHOUT AT ME!? I AM YOUR KING!"

At that, Macaque froze.

"what."
Wukong spoke angrily, venom spitting from his tongue as he continued.

"Did you really think you're my mate because i love you? How foolish. I just needed a successor, and you were available. Have you forgotten your place? You're just one of my many people. You didn't honestly think you're special did you? You were just a one night stand that had some good results."

Macaque stared at him as if he'd been slapped in the face then spat on.

Was that what Wukong really though of them? As just- some succesor carrier? Did he see their relationship as a collaboration to making a future sage?

Wukong finally came back to his senses, realizing what he just said as hot tears streamed down h̶i̶s̶ m̶a̶t̶e̶s̶  Macaque's face.

"Ah- n-no!- I- I didn't mean that- Moonlight I'm sorry-"

He started with a shaky tone, only to be cut off Macaque.

"Save it. I know that deep down, you meant it. I-"
They turned away for a moment, wiping the tears that wouldn't stop falling from their eyes

"I'm leaving. And I'm taking 'your successor' with me."

They said with a rage filled, yet cold tone.

The king couldn't not let his mate and cub get away!

"What- no, you don't meant that-"

"I mean. Every fucking word i say W-" they hesitated for a second " your Majesty. "

Now Wukong looked as if he was slapped.

"No. No no no- you- you can't! Please Moonshine i didn't mean that! PLEASE ! L-let's just talk it out- o-okay?- please. "

Wukong begged his mate not to leave him.

"Oh yeah, because last time we 'talked something out' ended well."
They said, reminding Wukong of their last fight. The one where he'd-....

Where Macaque lost their eye.

"..."

They both stayed silent for a moment.

Macaque picked their cub up from her makeshift cradle, and with her in their arms said:

"Goodbye, My King."

And with that, they both dissappeared i to the shadows.

Wukong never saw them again.

===================================

Now, centuries upon centuries later, Wukong did have a successor!

It was MK, an energetic, honest and a bit to gullible and trusty kid.

Well- 'kid' that was over 20 years old. But that's practically a baby compared to him a̶n̶d̶ h̶i̶s̶ m̶a̶t̶e̶.

...

Anyway, today, they encountered a demon, and since they were in the area, MK said they could visit his 'new found friend'.

Wukong didn't trust this 'friend' of his. Not knowing much about them already spiked his suspicions, and not meeting them yet also made Wukong worry.

So, as MK was taking him to his 'friend'.

To a..... Library?

A book store?

Something in that department.

"Yooo Matt!!" MK called out to seemingly no one.

But suddenly, someone yelled back.

"Oh, MK! Welcome back.."

Wukong searched for the voice with his gaze, but then someone peeked their head from behind the desk in front of them, making the king flinch.

"Amada's still in her room- i can call her down though."

The person had a dark mullet, and glasses in front of their amber eyes, and they were wearing a purple sweater.

"Great! Thanks! Oh- uh- this is The Monkey King! Sun Wukong! My mentor!"

"The great sage equal to heaven. I have a few books about him, yes. And you do kinda, always talk about how cool he is."

'Matt' as Wukong figured, teased MK, which made the younger man blush with embarrassment.

"But anyway, did you want anything else? Any book to rent out? To return?"

Matt looked at MK with a raised brow, as the kid looked guilty for some reason

"I told you... I'll give it back once i find it.." MK mumbled, his blush dissappearing after a moment.

"Um."
Wukong finally spoke up.

"Whose this 'Amanda' person?"

"It's Amada. And she'll be down in a second."
Matt responded.

"Amada's my friend. Y'know, the one we came to see?"

MK explained, offering a smile to Wukong.

"Your friend's a girl?"
Wukong asked, confused

"...yeah? Is that a problem?"
MK looked equally confused now.

"No no... it's just...your friends with a girl that isn't Mei?~"

Wukong teased, implying something more than friendship.

MK immediately blushed.

"AH! N-NO! WHY WOULD YOU EVEN SUGGEST SUCH A THING?! UGHH!!"

MK shouted with a red face, obviously annoyed and embarrassed about the accusation.

"Coming!"

They heard a female voice from upstairs, and footsteps running down them.

Then, they saw a young girl, about MK's age, purple haired with a ginger stripe, yellow eyes, and tan skin at the foot of said stairs.

"¡Oye, no bajes corriendo las escaleras! Te caerás algún día."
(Hey, don't run down the stairs! You will fall someday.)

"Ugh. ¡Deja de ladrar, viejo! ¡No me caeré!
(Stop your yapping, old man! I won't fall!)

Matt glared at the younger girl, then walked deeper into the book shop.

"Um. Do you always have to...fight? With your dad? Did i read that right?"

MK asked with confusion, not sure if he understood that right.

"Aye... Don't worry about it. He's just a worry rat sometimes. Anyway wanna-"

Her gaze fell onto Wukong.

Wukong felt something weird looking at her...

Something... familiar... yet.... indefinite..

"Whose..?"
She asked aloud

"Oh!- this is Monkey King! My mentor. Remember? Great sage equal to heaven?"

"Oh the one you CONSTANTLY talk about? Yeah- i think i might know sum' 'bout 'im."

She gave MK an unimpressed look.

MK smiled nervously, slightly blushing with embarrassment.

While MK and 'Amada' were talking, Wukong noticed something on her shirt. It was a purple text, that read 'SeM' with it underlined.

He was curious what it meant.

So, he asked.

"What does "S E M" stand for?"
He asked bluntly, Getting both the youngers attention.

Amada looked down at her chest.

"Oh! My dad used to be a fashion designer for a while- i like wearing his old things. It makes me feel closer to him."

She smiled warmly. It̶ l̶o̶o̶k̶e̶d̶ f̶a̶m̶i̶l̶i̶a̶r̶.

"Why were you looking at her chest?"

MK asked aloud, which made Wukong fluster

"AH!- I-IT'S NOT LIKE THAT! I SWEAR! IT JUST- CAUGHT MY ATTENTION, SINCE IT'S PURPLE ON WHITE!"

He defended nervously, landing a chuckle and laughter from the younglings.

"I'm kidding, I'm kidding."
MK laughed, while Amada was wiping the tears of laughter from her face.

"Anywhizzle, we have to go now."

MK stated

"Oh! Can i come?!"
Amada perked up.

"Uhm. Don't you have to... Help your dad with the shop?"

MK looked hesitant.

"Naahhh. Papá can menage by himself for a while. So! Where are y'all goin'?"

She asked with a smile, then they were on their way.

===================================

Something was wrong.

Something was very wrong.

Wukong sensed something wrong.

He just couldn't place his finger on it.

They all kept walking, till they reached Mei's house.

Since it wasn't too far from the shop, they decided not to take the king's cloud. Plus Amada felt uncomfortable riding something that's made of water and ice crystals.

When they arrived, Mei greeted them warmly, as always with excitement as well.

She invited them in to eat dinner with her and her parents, saying it would be a great opportunity to introduce Amada and Wukong the them personally.

===================================

So, he sat there.

Eating dinner with Mei, her parents and MK. Plus Amada, of course.

Everyone was calm, happy, chatting.

But Wukong couldn't get the feeling to go away.

Something.

WAS.

WRONG.

And it HAD to be this 'Amada' girl. He could feel it. Something wasn't right with her.

Something about the way she looked at him.

He didn't like it.

Not one bit.

But..

It's not like he could do anything about it.

He's sure MK would scold him for accusing someone of something without proof.

So, the king stayed quiet.

He'll just watch her for a while.

He can be patient.

He'll wait until she does something.

Until she slips up.

Then,

He'll do what will be necessary.
