It happened in his little room aboard the Negotiator . In his dream Obi-Wan Kenobi became consumed by an all consuming sense of knowing. The Jedi Master watched his beloved padawan be devoured by burning tendrils—held by a monstrosity of inky black. He despaired most at the eyes. Anakin’s beautiful blue irises transformed into sickly yellow pits illuminated only by hatred and fear.
Obi-Wan lunged at the creature, rending its flesh and tearing its whips from Anakin’s body. It would not have his brother. Anakin was pulled free but the coils of fire wrapped around Obi-Wan. After a moment of struggle he was pulled under.
The cold burned beneath shadowy waves. He was dragged deeper into the depths. Obi-Wan could not speak nor breathe. His eyes closed.
Much later—somehow he knew that—the Jedi’s eyes opened. Before him was a sphere of pearly white light; its glare burned his skin and the tendrils dragged him through its surface—into a chamber occupied by an old man.
“Chancellor,” Obi-Wan babbled.
Palpatine’s golden eyes peered into his soul before making a… realisation “I did not want you!” the Sith Lord screamed. A blast of energy emerged from the sorcerer’s fingertips.
Lightning dug beneath Obi-Wan’s skin. Was this where Anakin went every night? The thought hurt him more than the pain. Stained his soul. Obi-Wan’s eyes burned with hatred and he bled tears.
The darkness offered Obi-Wan relief, sinking into his bones cooling the fire beneath his skin. Obi-Wan ripped the net of lightning off his body and threw it back at the Sith.
The bubble shattered; Obi-Wan ascended, drowning upwards until… he broke the surface.
“ Huuuuuuuf, ” He gasped for air—and stale recycled air leapt into his lungs. The pristine walls reflected Obi-Wan’s handsome visage… now with glittering gilded eyes.
The Jedi flicked on his holocomm, a finely dressed officer sprouted from its metallic pincers. He addressed the clone, “Commander, if you would be so kind, tell our navigator to set a course for Coruscant.”
“Sir?” The not so identical face sported a look of confusion.
“For the love you bear me.” Obi-Wan insisted.
Cody’s expression solidified, “Sir.”
The holocomm switched off and Obi-Wan Kenobi set to recording a message.
…
Hours later the Star Destroyer leapt into Coruscanti orbit. Obi-Wan sat on the bridge, reinforcing the minds of his allies, enhancing their speed and skill but sapping their resistance. He drew from a well of strength that felt—wrong, but necessary. He only needed the bridge crew now; the rest of his Clones were already evacuated. Cody had resisted but Obi-Wan won their confrontation and sent his loyal companion off unconscious in an escape pod.
“Captain battle speed.” The mind reluctantly acceded to his order. The Negotiator slammed forward carving through Coruscant’s defence fleet, caught so off guard. Confused turbolaser fire ripped at the hull but as his ship screamed into the atmosphere.
“We’re in position sir.” a younger crewer relayed.
“Good.” Obi-Wan guided the gunnery crew mentally. I see you, his mind whispered, tracking Palpatine's sickening presence “A love tap, no more.” he reminded.
A single bolt of blue energy crackled through the sky, guided by the force, straight into the apartments of Chancellor Sheev Palpatine.
Planetary batteries roared in response. After a second they ripped through the Negotiator's shields “Abandon ship!” he cried, the crew rushed to comply and Obi-Wan piloted the star destroyer safely through the laser maze until they were away.
He felt a hideous man cry out through the force, Obi-Wan smiled—then the ship imploded.
…
Anakin Skywalker listened to Obi-Wan’s final message alone.
Forgive me Anakin
I am about to take an action some may see as treasonous
but you must know I am doing it to protect your future
from a future I cannot allow to come to pass
I loved you as a brother and as a son
I only hope you can now be free.
