Love at first... Jackhammer?

Summary:

"It's not every day someone so scary and feral is not only tolerable but... nice to be around? It felt... nice. MK felt nice."

Being chased by a maniac on a jackhammer is scary enough. But comforting said maniac through a (minor) injury and finding love in the process? That's terrifying - at least to MK.

What happens when a crazy, gothic lunatic and a sneaky, tech-savvy kleptomaniac find they have more feelings towards each other than just the ones you get when being chased on a heavy-duty machine?

Notes:

SCARYK NATION RISE UP
Is this out of character? possibly. do I care? Only slightly

Work Text:

MK's heart beat fast. So fast that they could feel it in their throat, like a cold you just can't get rid of (except way more painful and terrifying). Being chased by the camp's strangest and most frightening camper had to be the second scariest thing MK could ever imagine - put her on a jackhammer and that would be the first.

And that was exactly what was going on.

The noise from the machine and the horror movie-esque girl aboard it were enough to cause a heart attack in an elderly person. Luckily, MK was still a teenager and she valued her life. It seemed that Scary Girl didn't see the same value in MK's life that they themselves did. Then again, what did Scary Girl value, other than the suffering of her fellow campers?

Amidst the running, panting and screaming for her life, MK spotted the old boathouse by the dock. There wasn't any question - anywhere was safer than mere feet away from the end of her life via another contestant. In an amalgamation of panic and carelessness, MK swiftly darted to the boathouse, closing the door tightly and blocking it with their body.

As their breath steadied, the voice of the madwoman at fault for this situation shrieked into the atmosphere,

"Little pig, little pig, let me come in!" That noise, that screech of sheer insanity only caused MK to panic even more, their chest visibly pulsating.

"Do they not screen contestants at all for this show?!" MK muttered (rather loudly) to herself.

There was only a continuation of laughs and giggles from Scary Girl: seriously, what was wrong with that girl?! What could cause a girl MK's age to be so violent and sadistic? The panicked teen was too lost in thought about the whole situation that they almost missed the whole interface in front of their very eyes. Quickly, she glared outside for any sign of Scary Girl - or anyone for that matter. When the coast looked clear, they approached the multitude of screens and buttons that normally sat unnoticed in the boathouse. Their eyes first laid on the screens,

"Cameras," MK whispered to themselves. What a blessing! Cameras that showed every angle of the playing field of the current challenge: Capture the Skull. A smirk appeared as she pressed one of the buttons on the desk below the screens. On one of the screens, one of the 'random' shields popped up.

"Ohoh- this will be fun! " MK laughed to herself, having almost forgotten about the real threat - Scary Girl.

Tapping more buttons as more shields popped up and down again, MK chuckled. All this power for someone so sneaky. What was a kid to do? It was so-

Thump.

MK perked up. What was that? Did someone catch them red-handed? They slowly approached the boathouse door, peering outside. MK didn't even know what she expected to see: Another camper? Chris? Oh crud, they were busted!

Or not.

After looking left and right to no avail, MK looked down near the ground and saw none other than the very girl who was murderously chasing her a few minutes ago, only now she was kneeled on the sand, clutching her arm and the jackhammer was no-where in sight. On Scary Girl's arm was a small cut which MK had no idea where she had gotten it from but it looked pretty painful. Whatever, MK didn't have time to help people, especially someone on the other team. That was dumb!

Yet something told her to go over there. But why? MK gave another glance towards Scary Girl and then back at the interface they were messing around with. This continued as they looked back at Scary Girl, and at the screens once more.

"Ugh. This is bullshit," MK growled lowly as they dashed out of the boathouse door, rushed to the injured girl and scooped her up under her arms. Scary Girl seemed confused, but didn't fight MK's attempts at pulling her back to the boathouse.

When they made it back, MK sighed and kneeled down next to Scary Girl.

"I'm not being all mushy so don't even." MK hissed at Scary Girl.

"So you let me in after all?" Scary Girl replied.

"Just-shut up and show me your arm!" MK retorted in a tone that sounded almost annoyed.

Scary Girl allowed MK to look at the gash on her arm. Normally, Scary Girl would be laughing and giggling, especially in the precense of something painful. But it seemed that if it was her that was in pain rather than someone else, it pretty much bummed her out.

MK stood up and looked around the boathouse for anything that could help treat the wound. They didn't even know why they were doing this, it just felt right: even though right can feel almost the same as completely and utterly wrong. It didn't matter. MK soon found some kind of old cloth. It wasn't dirty but naturally you can't trust something that's been in a nasty, old boathouse for God knows how long.

MK began to drag the cloth where the remains of the bleeding were, being careful to avoid the injury itself. Scary Girl squirmed every time MK even went near the injury.

"Hey. Stop squirming! It'll make it hurt more or whatever." MK said, sort of backhanded.

Scary Girl looked at MK's face and, well, they didn't look too impressed about doing all of this. While they'd rather be anywhere but a tiny building with a murderous lunatic, they had to admit that they were curious as to how it all happened.

Well, only one way to find out.

"Soooo...-" MK started to speak as Scary Girl turned to face them, almost like a haunted doll. MK was a little spooked but continued, "How did you even cut your arm like that? That's nasty."

The gothic girl smiled once again as she explained, "I lost my grip on the jackhammer. I fell and I think I caught my arm on some glass or something."

MK wasn't going to question the legitimacy of Scary Girl's claim, though it seemed totally plausible.

After a little while of cleaning the wound, MK searched around for a bandage but to no avail.

"Well, I can't find a bandage so you'll have to cope." MK stated flatly.

Scary Girl smiled once more, "That's okay! The next time someone is hurt, I'll call you over to make sure they don't die... yet!"

With that short announcement, Scary Girl simply got up and left the boathouse.

What the hell was that?! MK was never one to help people so selflessly and yet here they were treating some random girl's wound.

But something told them maybe this wasn't all useless. It's not every day someone so scary and feral is not only tolerable but... nice to be around? It felt... nice. MK felt nice.

Confessional

MK stared at the camera in the old outhouse, looking almost ashamed of themselves.

"Welp. So much for not making any friends."

But in the back of their mind, it felt like more. Way more.
