Work Text:
You wipe away the warm tears escaping your closed eyes and curl deeper into yourself under the covers. Today had been one of the worst in a while. Not because some horrible crazy thing happened. It was just bad. One of those days where tiny annoyances built up one by one. Each little thing breaking off the little bit of strength you had left. Anxiety always buzzed through you, from the moment you opened your eyes in the mornings. Some days it was manageable, some days not. But you let it out now, all the pain rolls through your chest, released into a quiet sob that echoes through the empty room. But you flinch when the bedroom door creaks, inhaling a shaky breath, you try to calm yourself. The covers lift behind you and you instantly relax as an arm wraps around your waist, pulling you in close. Just the feeling of his hand on your bare waist is enough to distract you from your overwhelming thoughts.
“It’s okay, I’m here now, just breathe.” Mike whispers in your ear, pressing his face into your neck. He must’ve heard you crying, it wouldn’t be the first time. He always seemed to know how to calm you down though and for that you were forever grateful. Before him, these nights were lonely, and the mornings after were even worse.
“You wanna talk about it?” He brushes your hair out of your face softly. You shake your head no. But turn around and kiss him. Lingering there, the rest of the world falling away around the two of you. You needed him , that was all. So he pulls you closer, his hand lightly stroking your hair until you drifted asleep. You just needed him. That was all.
