“A pirate?! You?”

Kratu laughed in that sweet, deep way she always did. Sav Malagán couldn’t help but stare in amazement and awe, hypnotized by the way Kratu’s jewelry clinked as her head swayed. But beauty aside, Sav wouldn’t let the other woman put down her adventurous past so easily.

“Oh, we’re laughing now are we?” Sav asked as she refilled Kratu’s cup of caf, “I wouldn’t think it would be so hard to believe, we are right next to the Maz Kanata’s castle after all.”

Kratu nodded her wide brimmed hat in thanks. Sav responded with the same.

“Well, it’s just hard to imagine the pure hearted Sav Malagán to live such a life of crime,” Kratu laughed, “stealing more than just hearts sounds dangerous.”

They both erupted in laughter. The calm exteriors of the two Jedi masters easily fading away as they became comfortable in each other’s space.

It wasn’t often that Sav hosted guests at the temple that weren’t Takodana locals or pirate denizens. The idea of hosting a Jedi master seemed so far away to Sav, with their usual uptightness and Jedi seriousness they always held. But Kratu was different.

A fateful meeting at the street markets of Takodana brought them together.

A push of the force presented itself to Sav as they wandered the stalls, telling her to approach this purple skinned woman purchasing crystals falsely labeled as “kyber” within a hidden stall. She slowly made her way there, analyzing the garb the woman wore. It wasn’t clear if she was a Jedi or not, but her strength in the force was immensely present.

“Good day,” Sav told her with a smile as she approached.

The two locked eyes immediately, Kratu hid a smile and played along.

“Good day,” said Kratu, “I like your hat.”

“Likewise”

The stall worker dropped a bag of crystals into Kratu’s hands, alongside her change in credits. As she turned to leave, Kratu caught Sav’s eye and motioned to walk together.

“I truly, sincerely, hope you know those aren’t actually kyber,” Sav said jokingly.

“Wouldn’t make a very good Jedi if I couldn’t tell the difference,” Kratu responded with a laugh.

“It’s not like anything would have given it away,” Sav looked at her up and down.

“What can I say, the robes get a bit boring after a while,” Kratu said, “I figure you feel the same?”

“Oh, absolutely,” Sav extended her hand, “Sav Malagán, Jedi Master.”

Kratu took it, “Kratu, Jedi Master.”

Sav held onto her hand for a second too long, the purple of Kratu’s marked skin slightly blushing as her eyes lost focus. Sav spoke after a while, “care for some caf?”

They’ve been at the temple together now for hours. After a small tour, Caf was served and discussion was made. Quick stories about each of their travels, adventures, and years past of training turned into a small competition of who lived a more exciting life over the years.

“So a Padawan pirate, it has a nice ring to it I’ll admit,” Kratu said with a smile, “ever had a Padawan of your own?”

“Not necessarily, a few years ago I raised up a youngling Maz found, he was a vicious one but I think we did pretty good,” Sav smiled fondly thinking of her time with the little blue skinned boy, “and you? I’m sure any Padawan would be lucky to have you.”

Kratu blushed slightly, “I once trained a young girl I found on Korban, but that’s about it.”

“Ah, Korban. Known for its Kyber, if I recall correctly.”

“Right you are, I frequent there to help purify their corrupted crystals whenever I get the chance.”

“Restoring balance, how nobly Jedi of you,” Sav said with a full mocked seriousness.

“Oh, please,” Kratu reached over and pushed Sav’s shoulder as she scoffed in jest.

“So you frequent a planet known for its beautiful Kyber, yet you spend how many credits on fakes in an area synonymous with crime and mischief?” Sav laughed as she spoke.

Kratu sent her a challenging smile.

“Even if they’re fake, they are still beautiful.”

“I know many who fall under that same description.”

Kratu laughed enthusiastically. Sav liked making her laugh, hearing the deepness of her voice extend and sing alongside the melodic chimes of her jewels and bracelets. She wished she could do nothing but stare at this woman for hours on end. When Sav was younger, the thought of sitting in a single place for more than a couple minutes would have driven her to madness. But now as she’s grown older, living a calm, pleasant life within the temple alongside another unorthodox Jedi seemed to suit her quite nicely. Of course, she still wouldn’t mind going on the frequent adventure, especially if Kratu was at her side.

“What?” Kratu asked

“Oh, I didn’t say anything,” Sav said, taking a sip of her drink.

“No, but it seems like you want to. Those big eyes of yours keep getting lost in something,” Kratu smiled slyly.

Sav slowly removed her hat, keeping calm as Kratu watched them. It’s one thing to dance around the lines of the Jedi, it was another to practically step over them completely. But Sav had made a mistake once in her youth, she let go of someone she cared for too soon, and since then she wouldn’t let anyone else get away. Not everyone understood Sav and her ways, but Kratu was able to learn her intricacies throughout the morning which turned into afternoon and now slowly into evening. A window was closing, and Sav wouldn’t let it. It was in her pirate roots to go against the grain.

To Sav’s surprise, Kratu removed her wide brimmed hat as well. A tight fitting head wrap framing her features in a way that nearly made Sav lose her breath. Since when did you go soft, pirate?

“I sense something within you,” Kratu said, leaning towards Sav slightly, “It’s only been a day, so I understand the hesitation, but we can move slowly.”

Kratu leaned even further, until her lips touched against Sav’s forehead. Sav’s heart raced. No matter how many years she’s been around, no matter how many kisses and secret dates, the feeling never got old. The smell of Kratu’s fragrance sticking in the air around Sav. It smelt deep and natural, like she was a forest that Sav was happy to get lost in.

“Well if there’s one thing to know about Sav Malagán,” Sav now leaned towards Kratu in turn, “I enjoy adventure, and I never take things slow.”

Sav gently held onto Kratu’s chin as her lips touched upon Kratu’s own. She could feel her smile under the kiss, before the two of them leaned heavy on it, stretching it out for as long as possible.

Sav didn’t know how long this affair would last, sometimes the joy would spread throughout months, others it would just be a day of exploring feelings. But in this moment Sav felt as though they could hold Kratu forever, kissing her soft lips till the end of time and drowning in her gentle, deep hums of delight.
