Sawyer had hated Jack for as long as he could remember. Jack thought he was the leader and could push everyone else around, but that’s where he was wrong – Sawyer ran this island, not him.
While Jack and Locke were busy fighting with each other, Sawyer seized the opportunity and stole all of the weapons. Stupid Jack, always too ignorant to see the next step. Everyone else was also fed up with those two idiots, so that were very interested in the proposal that Sawyer made earlier that day. Little did Jack and Locke know that Sawyer had turned the whole island against them. Although everyone now hated them, they really had no reason to want them dead.
Jack gave them reason soon enough when he shot Shannon. Being the idiot he was, he stumbled and shot Shannon, killing her instantly. Once Sayid finds her dead, he is enraged and tries to attack Jack. He is pushed back by Kate as she is trying to defend Jack and his crimes.
Jack screams, “I didn’t mean it! I’m so sorry!”
Sayid doesn’t believe him and charges again. This time his fist connects with Jack’s previously smug face. Jack starts bleeding and screaming like a child. Sayid hesitates for a moment and Jack jumps back up to slam him into the tree. They take blows at each other for several minutes until Sayid hits Jack with a punch that could have ended his miserable life.
With Jack knocked out, the others contemplate what to do about Jack’s betrayal. Killing Shannon was the last straw for many of them, but they decide to allow Jack to defend himself and give his story. Although he was allowed to explain, everyone knew what the outcome was going to be. Murdering Shannon was the most heinous crime he had committed to date and no one would ever trust him again. They could never sleep again if they left a cold-blooded killer in their midst.
Jack wakes and is tied to a tree tightly. When he lifts his head, he meets Sayid and Sawyer’s eyes first. Burning rage is what Sayid’s eyes hold, but Sawyer’s hold something different. Something that made Jack’s blood run cold. Something like vengeance.
Everyone gathers around the tree and Jack makes an attempt to defend his actions. “I promise that I never meant to hurt Shannon. The gun went off and everything happened so quickly,” he says with tears in his eyes. He begs for forgiveness, but on the inside he knows that he meant to kill Shannon. He may have fooled Kate, but he wouldn’t fool the rest of them. Sawyer saw him for what he really was – a cold hearted snake that needed to be dealt with. He had caused chaos for far too long, and there was nothing left to do but finish him.
The group talks amongst themselves, but the decision is unanimous to kill Jack for what he did. Everyone decides that Sayid will be the one to do it as he has a background in torture and he has been affected the most by Shannon’s death. Sayid revels in this and starts plotting what exactly he will do to Jack. He wants him to feel the pain that Shannon felt as she bled out slowly. Shannon deserved to live more than this rat ever did. Sayid would bring justice for Shannon if it was the last thing he ever did. Jack would not live as long as he was alive.
Jack is left tied to the tree overnight to ensure he goes nowhere. Once the others wake in the morning, they return to the tree to retrieve Jack. When they arrive there Jack is gone. Sawyer takes the lead and sections people off to start searching for him.
Kate’s search group heads west and while running through the forested area, they stumble upon Jack’s lifeless body. He had appeared to have fallen and impaled himself on a sharp tree trunk sticking up from the grass ridden ground below it. Jack may have thought he was smart, but he wasn’t if he was stupid enough to impale himself on a tree trunk after having been in the forest for an extended period of time.
News reaches the other groups and everyone gathers on the beach. Jack’s body is drug from the forest and onto the beach. Everyone is surprised, but no one was even the slightest bit sad. Justice was served. Maybe not in the way that everyone including Sayid had hoped, but Jack was finally dead. The island rejoices and resumes living without a whinny, murderous, rat in their ears.
