Work Text:
Kier wakes up to an itching sensation on his wrist.
Half awake, he goes to scratch it, but his fingertips aren't met with skin. He rubs his eyes, and jumps back to see petals, coming right out of his arm. Shocked, Kier inspects them closer - two flowers of a pink hue, with small vines and thorns that dig into his body, yet they don't hurt or sting. Just a dull scratch.
He assumes he's still dreaming, and looks around for anything else out of the ordinary.
Nothing.
Whatever. Kier shrugs it off, and goes to shower.
With a squeaking sound, the water trickles down onto Kier's body, and he can't help but stare at the ever-growing flowers that bloom from his forearm. There's more since when he'd woken up about three minutes ago, and the rate they're growing at is horrifying. Five flowers now, varying in shape and size, yet all that same dark pinkish color. And it's starting to hurt, several vines in close proximity growing across his arm. Kier heavily considers cutting them off, tugging them out of his skin, but he's curious. Curious on why they're there, and how far they'll grow.
When he steps back into his room, realization hits him like a slap in the face. He remembers being told something exactly like this -- when your soulmate is wounded or cut, a flower will bloom in the same place on your own body. Once you find your soulmate, the flowers will slowly begin to wither away.
Kier stands still for a moment, then shifts his focus to the petals that now coat his forearm. They're growing dark and painful by the second, yet they're so pretty, and he can't tear his gaze away from them. Some look more like roses, and others much more open and small, each with their own set of sharp vines that threaten to cut off his circulation. They're growing out a lot at this point, and Kier sighs heavily at the realization he'll have to wear hoodies for the foreseeable future.
Dev smiles to greet Kier when he enters the kitchen, and there's eyebags under the blue eyes that gaze warmly across at him. Kier sits down with a weak grin, watching as Dev goes back to preparing breakfast. Just as he begins to lose himself in thought, Dev shoves a plate in front of him. Kier mumbles his thanks, then takes a bite of waffle and lets the sweet taste melt upon his tongue.
They'd eaten in silence, until Dev left to use the bathroom.
Now, Kier sits there, feeling his appetite fade as vines grow from his thigh to his knee.
When Dev returns, he stares up at him, searching his deep eyes for any sign of emotion. As he sits down, Dev blinks back, flat and dismissive as if he's hiding something.
They finish eating after another two minutes or so, and Kier thanks Dev again before excusing himself and leaving.

Dev blinks back tears as he wraps his thigh, notably tighter than he should, in a white bandage. He tapes it up, and forces the leg of his sweatpants over the bandages, letting it rest at the knee.
Suddenly, skin seemingly breaks on Dev's palm, and a soft petal sprouts from the cut, and he watches it, still not exactly processing what he's seeing, as it grows into a full flower.
Cold air hits his face as his door is swung open just a second later, and Dev frantically rolls his sweats back down to his ankles. Kier looks down on him, but Dev can't meet his eyes.
"...Do you have a bandaid?" Kier asks hesitantly, gesturing to his left palm, and he doesn't realize what's going on until Dev looks up and gapes back at him. Dev stands up, grabs Kier's wrist, puts their left hands side by side, and it immediately clicks in both their heads.
"Oh." Kier mutters, "So it is you,"
"What? You knew?" There's a silence after Dev responds, interlocking their fingers to find that, indeed, the flower is in the exact same place, and he takes note of how warm the other's hand is.
Kier's face flushes slightly. "Well, I just assumed it..."
"I'm glad it's you," Dev whispers, and Kier giggles fondly.
Gently, Dev separates their hands, and cups Kier's warm face with both. He holds him there, just for a moment, staring into his dark umber eyes, before leaning in and kissing his soft lips. Kier reciprocates, wrapping his arms around Dev and smiling against his mouth, and they stay like that for a few minutes.
Kier moves back, rolls up his sleeve, and stares at the now-wilting flowers on his wrist. "I thought I'd have to cut them off,"
Nudging one of the petals, Dev laughs, "They suit you,"
