Work Text:
It wasn't that Namjoon was allergic to dogs or hated them, he just didn't like them. They were four legged troublemakers. Always chewing on things that weren't theirs. Always making a lot of noise when you wanted them to be quiet. Always shitting and peeing all over the place. Always clinging to you and demanding your attention. Always staring at you eat – waiting for you to drop something. Always getting in your way when you're trying to walk forwards. Really, dogs were a pain in the ass and Namjoon didn't want anything to do with them.
But shit never goes in the direction that you want it to, and now he has two beings giving him puppy eyes.

"Ah, it's so cold! Remind me why we live in the North Pole, please." Jimin whined as he shivered and Namjoon pulled him close to share his warmth.
They were walking home after having had dinner at Namjoon's best friend's house. The two only lived four blocks from each other, so they usually walked to their destination. But it was already November and the air around them was chilling more and more each day. "Sweetie, we're far from the North Pole. And I did suggest we drive, but someone whined about wanting to walk off Jin's feast and taking a stroll under the street lamps." He chuckled as he reminded Jimin of his own words from just three hours ago.
Said man puffed his cheeks out cutely and pouted, "Why didn't you talk me out of it?" He whined some more. Again, Namjoon chuckled at his boyfriend's behavior as he pulled him even closer and wrapped his long arm around the other’s shoulders. "Yes, yes. Now I know to carry you, throw you into our car, and lock the door so you can't escape." He joked as he placed his warm lips to the shorter man's cold temple.
"Please do." He heard the other mutter as he wrapped his arm under Namjoon's black trench coat to steal even more of his warmth. The two continued walking home as the night sky above then littered with stars they couldn't see.
"Besides, five more minutes and we'll be back home. I'll make you nice and warm soon." He smiled and winked at Jimin as he danced his eyebrows suggestively. The mellifluous giggle escaping Jimin's plump, perfect lips was enough to have Namjoon mentally jump up and down in excitement. "Oh, I'm sure you will, babe." His cheeks were slightly darker, it could have been the harsh temperatures, but Namjoon chose to believe it was the near future that provided them the flush. He felt a pleasant shiver play on his flesh as Jimin squeezed his waist.
They continued on their way, hitting their boots against cold pavement. And right as Namjoon was going to mention something that Jungkook had brought up earlier when Jimin was helping Jin in the kitchen, his side was abruptly assaulted by the unforgiving fall air. "Did you hear that?!" Jimin spoke in a low, yet loud, whisper. Namjoon could see his boyfriend's words painting the air with smokey clouds of his heat. They were gone before Namjoon had a chance to respond because he was too busy straining his ears to hear whatever it was that Jimin was trying to point out.
Opening his mouth to accuse Jimin of secretly being crazy, he was shushed once more, "there it is again! You're only two years older than me, how have you lost your hearing already?" He accuses with an incredulous smile.
Namjoon narrows his eyes at his boyfriend's profile, but then he hears it. And suddenly he can already see his future. But it's not with Jimin on top of him bouncing; instead it’s of some creature running rampant around their house. The gears in his head are greased and moving now because there has to be a dog around here somewhere and as soon as Jimin catches sight of it, he won't leave it. Quickly thinking up excuses, Namjoon reaches and tries to pull Jimin close by tugging petulantly on his coat's high collar.
Jimin being the quick little thing he is, steps forward just before Namjoon can tighten his fingers, "Jimin!" He groans and drags out the name he would much rather groan and drag out under a much different light, their bedroom light preferably, but of course Namjoon is slapped in the face by cruel reality.
"You heard it too! I'm gonna find him!" He cheers with a happy smile barring all his teeth and part of his soft tongue. Namjoon was going to correct him and say the dog might not even be a he, but he refrained in order to stomp his foot in place; petulance seems to want to shine brighter than the dim street lamps tonight. He throws his head back and stares at the sky, "why me?! Huh?" He's not really angry, but he would rather not to have to deal with the prospects of expanding their family just yet, let alone expanding it immediately with four legs rather than the preferable two.
Not even a minute later he heard the cursed cooing of Jimin. He follows after in the direction his short lover ran off to and quickly finds him crouched and looking at something Namjoon can't quite see because not only is there no light in the small recess between two townhouses, but also because Jimin is managing to shield it. And though his eyes can't see it, he knows it's there.
Slowly he's approaching Jimin and the creature. It's still out of sight, but now he can hear the excited panting. Jimin is doing something with his hand that is exciting the thing because he can hear the nails scrape over the pavement as it probably moves around happy that it has a new friend.
Upon hearing him, Jimin turns and smiles at Namjoon. He looks years younger and Namjoon thinks he's still beautiful at 29 no matter how many wrinkles Jimin whined about having because he still thinks Jimin looks exactly as he did the first time he laid eyes on him over ten years ago. And for those few seconds, Namjoon just wants to give Jimin whatever it is he wants because that smile is like a bad habit. He knows Jimin knows that he could get away with murder with that smile. He could do lots of good and bad things when he smiles, so Namjoon begins shaking his head. He needs to clear the thoughts and desires and needs and wants that smile is giving him because he needs a clear mind to combat Jimin and his dazzling smile.
Jimin's eyes grow smaller as he grows wrinkles in his forehead and his lips purse as his eyebrows fall to an angle. It's his sad, confused look. It's the look he gives Namjoon when he thinks he won't get what he wants. It's the look he gives when he wants Namjoon to turn into goop. It's the look that he gives Namjoon when he knows exactly what he's doing, but does it anyway because it will guarantee getting whatever it is that he wants.
Always has. Always will. And always does.
But nope. Not today. Because Namjoon is well aware of that look, but he also really doesn't want a dog. No matter what his boyfriend says or how he looks. A dog is the last thing he wants.
Jimin breathes in deeply, as does Namjoon because he's getting ready to use verbal whining because his cute facial whining fell short. And Namjoon would rather not hear it, but it's coming regardless. "But look at her! She’s so small and thin! She needs to eat!"
Ah, and here it is. Namjoon thinks as he closes his eyes and brings in his bottom lip to bite on as he continues to listen in silence. "We can't just leave her here! It's cold and she'll die out here without us! Look at her shivering!" He looks to see where Jimin is pointing. And sure enough, everything he's just said is true. Namjoon isn't naive. He knows this dog won't make it unless they take it with them or someone else walks by and snatches it up. He is really hoping the latter happens, but the former is looking truer and truer with each passing second.
But he's stubborn. And he really doesn't want a dog. Jimin knows this. He accepted the hard truth twice already in the past nine years they’ve been together. Tonight will change that to thrice because they aren't taking this dog with them. No way. Nuh huh. No how.
So he begins his rebuttal. "We can't. We both work and wouldn't have time to watch her. Our house is so not dog proof. She's going to poop and pee everywhere and we just got the new wood flooring you wanted. We don't even have food or toys for her. Plus, we would need to take it to the vet to see if she's healthy. She's going to cost us a lot of time and money, Jimin. No. Now let's go home, its cold."
Never one to take no for an answer, Jimin crosses his arms over his chest. It could be because it's well near the freezing point, but Namjoon knows it's because Jimin is getting upset. And he's about to hear everything he could think of to negate his previous claims.
"We don't work nearly as much as you think." And it's true. Namjoon works often, but only because he loves his job. And Jimin doesn't have to work, but he does anyway because he's get bored just waiting around for him to get back. "It's Friday. We could easy move all the things she would chew on out of her way. And have the house ready to go in no time." Namjoon wants to snort at this point because Jimin is taking this much too lightly. But he continues to listen anyway. "She's still a puppy! We can train her - I could train her." His answer changes after Namjoon gave him a pointed look. But it's true. Jimin had lots of dogs growing up, he's sure he knows quite a few tricks. "And I know there's a pet clinic just twenty minutes away from us and it's open on the weekends." Namjoon wants to roll his eyes now because he can just imagine Jimin scoping out veterinary practices like he knew he was going to get a pet. "And you and I both know we have enough saved to take care of a hundred dogs." Namjoon bets that Jimin would probably love to actually do that. He'd probably buy a farm if Namjoon let him.
"Jimin, I really don't want a dog. Can't we think about this first?" He should fall to his knees begging so Jimin takes him seriously, but Jimin would probably just use his new height to shove the puppy's face in his own.
"Joon," he hears his boyfriend say. His expression and tone are both serious, and he can feel something big coming, "we're going to take her home with us or else."
Or else? What could possibly be worse than having a hairy, four legged creature running around their nice and quiet house? So he voiced this exact question, "’or else’ what? You'll kick me out?" He laughs at the thought. Jimin loves him far too much to kick him out. It was his idea to move in together six years ago. Jimin was the one who found their house and convinced him that it would be perfect for their family. He doesn't know what or else would entail, but what he does know is that whatever it was he thought it could entail, surely wasn't what Jimin said next.
"Or else I won't have sex with you." The words leave Jimin's sinfully red lips that never pale from the cold, and Namjoon has never been so caught off guard and nonplussed before.
"What?" He lets out ever so eloquently as he tilts his head and tries to actually not fall to his knees after all.
"No sex. With me. Ever again." Namjoon wants to call his bluff, but isn't stupid enough to do it. He knows Jimin loves sex with him just as much as he loves sex with Jimin. And if it wasn't for this dog, they could be doing just that right now.
"You can't be serious." He says instead and watches as Jimin doesn't laugh or smile or deny his original statement. "Oh, God. You're totally serious, aren't you? Jimin!" He calls like a plea for him to reconsider, but he's not. And he doesn't look like he will either.
"Joon, I really want to take her home. Please don't make me leave her here to die all alone." His lips remain pursed, but his eyes are pleading. Namjoon thinks he's torn between begging with tears and standing his ground after such a serious threat. Well, serious to him anyway. Sex with his Jimin is a wonderful thing and he'd rather lose his right hand. But he knows that this is more than sex for the both of them. This may not be a child, but it's like a test for one. Having a dog together would be a big step, a step that Namjoon is willing to take whether he thinks he ready or not. He'd do anything for Jimin, so if Jimin wants this dog, who is he to deny him?
He exhales sharply as he closes his eyes and lets his head drop forward in the inevitable surrender, "fine." The one syllable is all Jimin needs to run over to him and squeak ‘thank you’s over and over as he places wet, sloppy kisses all around his face. The weight on his shoulders from Jimin's hands pulling him as he stands on his tippy toes is enough to make him smile like an idiot. He doesn't even know why he even tried; they both knew they weren't leaving as two.

"I don't understand why she doesn't love me like she loves you." He hears Jimin complain over his shoulder as he rests back on the sofa watching a debate. He doesn't have to look to see Bella is close to him. He can feel the warmth of her head on his thigh. The dog only stayed by Jimin's side for the first week, but now it's like Namjoon has a second shadow.
He chooses to laugh and pet the small bundle of fur that is sleeping beside him, "you should be glad you have such a popular boyfriend. Don't worry; you still have half my heart." He teases and is rewarded with Jimin's warm hand pushing his head forward as he walks away muttering something about a dog stealing half his boyfriend's heart and about living with traitors.
Namjoon looks down and chuckles softly because he never thought the day would come where he actually liked having a dog around him. He smiles down at her before whispering gently,
"You're not so bad after all."
