a harbinger's coat

Summary:

while waiting for arlecchino to come home, furina misses her and her scent and decides to take her work coat

Work Text:

Furina sat on the couch of her apartment, aimlessly clicking the button of the remote, scrolling through movies on Netflix. All of them didn’t interest her. Honestly, she has a ton of movies and anime that she has started but never finished. But that was hardly her fault. She has a short attention span and can’t focus on one thing for too long. Huh, maybe she has ADHD.

She groaned and turned off the TV, throwing the remote to the other side of the couch, and flopped against the armrest. She stared up at the ceiling, absolutely bored out of her mind. She thought of annoying her wife, but she wasn’t home, even if it was around the time she would usually come home. Arlecchino was working late today, though she never told Furina what time she would come home, as she didn’t know herself. At her work, they were finishing up a project, today was the last day of the deadline, and all the employees needed to do overtime. So, Furina was just lying around waiting for Arlecchino to come home.

She missed her a lot. Her manly, woodsy scent was faint in the apartment.

Suddenly, she thought of something.

With a grunt, she bounced up from the couch and dashed to the bedroom, opening the walk-in closet and looking through Arlecchino’s side. Furina thoughtlessly hummed, tapping a finger on her chin as a way of thinking. Where is it? She thought. She moved each piece of clothing to the side until she found what she was looking for.

Arlecchino’s harbinger coat.

Arlecchino only wore it on business meetings with her colleagues. And on normal work days or going out, she would wear a simple coat. Furina didn’t know why.

It was starting to get cold in Fontaine, the lowest today would be 38 degrees. The heat was on in the apartment, but it was still cold…so…

Arlecchino wouldn’t mind, right?

Furina slipped the coat on and buttoned it up, it was big on her, and that would make sense, considering how much taller Arlecchino was. The coat was down to her feet and under. But she felt warm, very warm. This would suffice.

She walked out of the closet, jumping down and up with excitement. The scent of the coat overfilled her nose. The same similar manly,  woodsy scent of her wife. She loved the scent. She walked out of the bedroom and into the living room. She stopped for a moment and took in even more of the scent.

“Arlecchino’s scent is really…”

All of a sudden, the front door opened and a large frame entered the apartment.

“Furina, I’m home,” Arlecchino called out. She looked up from her phone to look for Furina, but unexpectedly she met the eyes of a flustered toothpaste-haired woman.

Both of them stood still. Staring in each other's eyes. Arlecchino’s eyes trailed down Furina’s body, or rather, her clothes.

“Is that my coat?”

“AHAHAHA! A—Arlecchino! W—What a wonderful surprise to see you here! Ah…haha…you didn’t text me telling me you were coming…”

“I did,” Arlecchino said, fully entering and closing the door behind her, locking it. “Clearly you didn’t get it.”

Furina looked down shamefully, face flushed red to her ears. She was definitely in trouble. She didn’t even ask Arlecchino if she would wear her work coat. Oh, archons…

“By the way, Furina. You look cute in my coat.”

“H—Huh?! Really?”

“Mhm,” Arlecchino replied, shrugging off her coat and placing it on the hanger. Furina could see a faint blush appearing on the taller woman’s cheeks. Arlecchino, blushing? It was usually her making Furina blush, but this time it’s the other way around! The performer never would’ve thought she would be able to make the usually emotionally reserved blush.

“Although, you should’ve asked to wear it.”

“I’m sorry!! I thought I would be able to take it off before you came home…”

Arlecchino hummed, walking up to her wife. She raised a hand to pet the shorter woman’s soft, fluffy hair. “I don’t mind. You look cute.”

Furina felt her face burning up, turning a bright crimson red. “Th—Thank you…”

The Knave smiled at her, the first Furina had seen in a while. Arlecchino leaned in and kissed her head, then kissed her lips.

“Let me take a shower and we can cuddle, okay? You can even wear the coat.”

Furina smiled big and went on her tippy toes to kiss her on the cheek. She yelled thank you and ran to the bedroom. Arlecchino, uncharacteristically, smiled warmly at the happy girl jumping up and down on the way to the bed.
