Can't Be Disrespectful

Snowman

Work Text:

Luna stared up at the falling snowflakes with a wistful smile. Her arms were straight out from her sides, and she slowly started to spin in a circle. Her mind was wandering, so she did not hear when Harry walked up behind her. Her eyes had shut by that point, and Harry thought she looked like a snow fairy. He reached out and tugged on a strand of her hair.

“Harry.” She said in her angelic voice as she looked over at him. “I thought you were still struck by the sleepious weevil.”

“No, my dove.” He chuckled and placed one of her fuzzy hats on her head. “I was getting breakfast ready. Come in and have some with me.”

“But it’s snowing, Harry.” She started to slowly twirl again. “We should build some snowmen to greet the snow gibbles.”

Building snowmen after the first snow has become one of their traditions since before they were even dating. Now they were married with busy schedules, and it was still something they made time for every year. It was one of the times Harry was able to see Luna be so free, and it was the quickest way to cause him an unending smile. “We need to let the snow build up first and for it to stop snowing so hard.” He caught her hand and spun her into his arms. “While we wait, let’s have some eggs, toast, and bangers. Shall we?”

Luna smiled up at him. “You have snow in your eyelashes, Harry.” She stood up on her tiptoes and kissed his nose. “And your nose is rather red. Are you cold, love?” The smile caused the corners of her to crinkle in the best kind of way.

“A little.” Harry leaned down to kiss her forehead. He started them forward back to their home. “I am more worried about you. We will do the snowman later, but remember what the healer said. You have to rest or we will be right back at St. Mungo’s.”

Her nose wrinkled as she allowed herself to be led inside. Her hand reflexively went to her rounded stomach. “The healers and you worry too much. These two won’t be here for at least a week yet. They just have the jitters.”

“I know, Luna. I know.” He shook his head and moved them to the kitchen nook where breakfast already waited for them. “Hot chocolate or no?”

“There is no one that would say no to hot chocolate on a day like this, Harry.” She scrunched her nose and loaded her plate up. “Extra whipped cream, please. With cinnamon.”

“Yes, yes.”

XXXXX

A couple hours later, the pair are snuggled up on the couch surrounded by pillows and a forgotten book. Harry leaned over to kiss the top of Luna’s head. “My dove, the snow has stopped and it will be dark soon. If we want to get the snowmen built, we need to start now.”

The bundle in his arms stirred slowly.  “Three snowmen,” came the muffled response.

“Yes, yes.” He gave her a hug before he stood and walked over to grab their coats, hats, and scarves. “One small, one medium, and one large.” He came back to the bundle of blankets. “Time to go, my dove.”

A pale hand came out from the depths of the nest. “Need help. I have been trapped by comfiness gremlins.”

Harry chuckled before he leaned down and rescued his wife from the clutches of these comfiness gremlins. “Shall you start with the small one, and I will get the large one done?”

She put on her warm clothes and went outside with a nod. Immediately, Luna looked up at the sky in amazement of how quickly clouds can just disappear after a storm. She stretched a bit before she got to work on the small snowman. It was always such a good feeling to do anything with her hands. After she clumped together a small ball of snow, she began to add to it meticulously. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Harry doing the same, but in a much more haphazard way. It caused her to giggle.

Harry’s head popped up. “What’s got you giggling, dove?”

“You really should make the ball have a stronger foundation. Otherwise, we are going to have a lopsided snowman again.”

“It doesn’t matter on the big one. We can make it not lopsided later on.” Harry harrumphed as he continued his work.

“That is extra work that could be avoided at the start.” Luna grumbled as she continued her own work as well. They continued in peace for a while until a sudden pain hit Luna. “Ope.” She breathed out and squeezed her eyes shut against the pain. “I believe I was incorrect earlier, Harry.”

Harry’s head popped up from behind what was becoming a giant snowman. “Incorrect about what?”

“I think it is best for us to head back to St. Mungos now.” She abandoned the start of the medium snowman and carefully wobbled back towards their house.

“Seriously?!” He lept into action and rushed to grab their go bags as well as the port key to transport them to the healers.
Luna kept her breathing steady as she reached for the port key. “Once this is over, you have to come back and finish those snowmen. Can’t be disrespectful.” She smiled at him and kissed his cheek

“Of course, dove, but we will worry about that after our boys have arrived.” He smiled at her as pride overwhelmed her at her calmness and strength. “I love you, and thank you for giving me a family.”

“It was inevitable.” She whispered as the familiar pull hit them. Soon enough they were in the labor and delivery ward. These two boys were coming fast. They were ready to be loved to the point of annoyance from her, Harry, and the rest of their friends.
