Work Text:

“So you’re going to Korea then.” he said. Quanxi glanced over at the idling plane, the pilot staring at the sky impatiently as she said her goodbyes. She had packed her bags quickly. She honestly wasn’t sure where she was going.

“China, actually.” she said.

“I don’t really understand why you have to do this.” Kishibe said simply. He didn’t give it the tone of the question that it was, he never wanted to ask a question. He merely stated it, like a report of a fact. He looked exhausted, his form battered and without tension, his shoulders slumped.

“I told you. Its that Makima girl. There’s something… something wrong. Its going to be bad real soon.” Quanxi said.

“But…” Kishibe muttered. “She’s just a… lady. You just met her. We can handle ourselves.” he said halfheartedly. He could tell from Quanxi’s tone that she had made up her mind. He wasn’t even sure why he was trying to convince her to stay – perhaps the same reason he had never given up on her heart, though he knew the endeavor to earn it was hopeless.

“You don’t trust me. Or you don't believe me.” Quanxi said. Kishibe didn’t respond for a moment.

“I have to stay.” He said, finally.

“I don’t really understand why you have to do that.” Quanxi echoed. Kishibe smiled slightly, and then Quanxi closed the distance between them. She took his head in her hands and kissed him, the way you would kiss a woman, with something like violence. Kishibe’s eyes went wide. Finally she pulled away.

“Come with me.” Quanxi said.

“I… I have to…” He said. Quanxi stared down at her feet. What a waste. “You said you didn’t like…”

“I don’t.” she said and turned away, the heels of her boots clattering against the asphalt as she walked.

“Do you pity me, then?” Kishibe called out after her. Quanxi looked back over her shoulder for a moment, her single remaining eye shining with cruelty.

“Yes, I guess I do. Goodbye, Kishibe.” She said. Kishibe nodded numbly and watched her go.
