Work Text:
It had been a particularly busy day at work today, with only twelve days to go until Christmas. Busy office workers, which made up a decent portion of the town’s population, were finally starting to panic and get their last-minute shopping done, sweeping through every department store they could find like a plague of locusts.
You didn’t mind, considering your boss had given you a festive bonus for the long and constantly busy shifts, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t tiring.
After this long day, you were finally making your way home like many other people at this time of the early evening. You were thanking yourself for already having the festive shopping done, so you didn’t need to spend any extra time or money: you could just go straight home. You just wondered if your boyfriend would be home already.
Before you could open the door to your apartment, you heard a loud crash coming from within. What was that? There’s no way it could’ve been a robber, right? You thought you didn’t have anything worth stealing that someone would just break in. But, just in case, you scattered your keys and keyrings alike between your fingers on the chance this supposed robber may attack. There was no way you were going to go down without a fight.
You opened the door as quietly as you could, and you crept through the hallway, towards a dim light that seemed to shine from the modest living room. Although, the light seemed to be moving. Strange. Did they have some sort of flashlight? It didn’t seem to be doing its job very well.
“Ow!”
Oh, wait, you recognised that voice.
“Ichi?” Not feeling anywhere near as threatened as before, you took your keys out from between your fingers and put them on a nearby console, still in the hallway. You swung open the door. Sure enough, none other than Ichiban Kasuga stood there… tangled in warm, white fairy lights and silver tinsel.
“Y/N!” He was more than relieved to see you were home.
“Ichi, babe, what are you doing?” You couldn’t help but laugh at the sight of your boyfriend.
“Don’t laugh!” He pouted, “I was trying to decorate while you were at work, y’know, so you wouldn’t have to do it yourself ‘cuz you’ve been busy… but uh, it seems physics had other plans.”
He was trying to surprise you? Now you feel a little guilty for laughing at him.
“You didn’t have to do this, Ichiban. You’re so sweet.” You decided against poking any more fun at him.
“But I wanted to.”
“Here let me help you.”
You put the rest of your things down and stepped closer so you could assist your boyfriend, setting him free of his festive entrapment, considering the lights and tinsel were somehow coiled around the poor man like shiny snakes. After ten or fifteen minutes, you were able to untangle him. Probably a record time, considering the amount of knots and ties he was in.
“Thanks, babe.” He laughed sheepishly and put a hand on your waist, once he was finally free. “Kinda glad you got home early now.”
“So am I, lord knows what trouble you would have gotten into.”
He thought for a moment, glancing away, before saying, “probably burn the whole complex down.”
“Maybe I shouldn’t have given you your own key…”
“Hey!”
