“Good night”

Summary:

MePhone's rough past has left many emotional scars on him, but one rainy night all of them break free in an unexpected flashback. However, the insomniac hotel manager, OJ, overhears him softly crying, and is drawn in by an unknown feeling.

Notes:

I wrote this at like 3 AM to 5 AM on school days. My sleep schedule may be fucked, but at least I made this!

Work Text:

The rain was pounding on the hotel window, each drop making a large 'thud' against the glass, it was like the small water droplets were trying to break in with the help of the wind. Oh, the wind. That cursed thing was swushing and swishing outside without a care for others. It was swinging trees and moving litter that was on the sidewalks, causing it to be everywhere on the street.

Behind the window, in one of the hotel rooms, was MePhone. The weather had woken him up, and he hadn't been able to fall asleep again, so he had spend his time of being awake just thinking and scrolling on his phone. It wasn't the most ideal, he already knew he'd be tired by the time noon comes around. But could he really do anything else at the moment? He just sighed as he continued his journey deeper into the space of the Twitter platform.

After a moment, and very suddenly, he felt a sting in his brain. It wasn't exactly pain, but it made him feel weird; it was like if someone was scratching it, but leaving their nails deeper in it every few scratches.

He knew this feeling, way more than he should of. He closed his phone, putting it on the small table next to his bed. With all that done he layed down on his right side, staring into the wall next to his bed. He could feel his mind already beginning to spiral, that caused his head to hurt, and also made him realize that it was definitely coming. MePhone wrapped himself more tightly in his blanket and grabbed his pillow like a plushie, getting himself ready.

Three. Two. Inhale. Exhale. One.

Like on command tears started falling out of his eyes. This caused him to cuddle even more agressively into the pillow he was holding. He found it lucky that he was able to cry quietly, basically silently, just letting his tears fall out while biting down, grinding his teeth against each other.

His mind was running. He felt like the worst, he just ruined everything he came into contact with. It felt like his whole existence was just full of attacking and hurting others. He couldn't do anything right. He started gripping more tightly onto the pillow. This was the moment when he started sobbing, very quietly, because he just couldn't hold it in anymore.

Why was he so useless even with this. He couldn't keep his emotions under control, they always got the best of him, and made him act out in ways he didn't mean to. He needed to calm down, he needed to, otherwise-

"MePhone, are you okay?"

MePhone tensed up upon hearing his name. How did he miss the sound of the door opening? He turned his head to look at who came into his room. Seeing OJ there, even if it was obvious it would be the manager himself, made him freeze a bit. There wasn't much light, but OJ's afro was still easily recognizable.

"Yeah, I'm fine," MePhone said. His voice shook, which was an indicator that no, he was, in fact, not fine.

OJ was sure that he must of startled him, mostly cause he could still see the tracks of water under MePhone's eyes reflecting the slithers of light coming from outside.

"Would you mind if I stayed with you for a moment?" A bit of worry could be heard in OJ's voice, the only bit that pushed through his calm mask.

MePhone was taken aback, this question meant that OJ didn't fall for his lie. "I mean, sure," he replied. His head was still in the clouds, at least a part of it, as he seemed disoriented.

This was the moment that everything started to feel weird for MePhone. The world started to seem like a game, a movie, he was just watching everything. Sitting up made his world spin, causing him to loose balance and almost fall on his side.

In that moment OJ caught him and sat down next to him, letting the smaller man lean against him, while also wrapping an arm around him to make sure he didn't fall.

“Breathe, just breathe, deep breaths,” OJ commanded in a fit of worry.

The state MePhone was in didn't allow him to do anything else than to listen to it. He took a breath in, feeling it fill his whole lungs, held it like that for a moment, all that before slowly letting it go. He repeated it a few times, enough times for his vision to unblur and his footing to become stable.

“I'm sorry, I'm sorry,” MePhone immidiately started apologizing.

“It's fine, don't worry,” OJ replied. His voice was calming, as calming as the smell of a recently lit incenace stick. At that exact moment MePhone tiredly hugged him, hanging onto the other man's shoulders and leaning against his side with his whole body.

OJ looked at him with that 'Oh. Oh.' look. Then, albeit awkwardly, hugged him back. Feeling the sudden warmness all around him made MePhone lean even more into OJ with a soft and tired whimper, and he let him do it, because he wasn't himself. It was also making him sad, the normally pretty energetic and talkitive guy was now laying on him completely tired, and completely silenced.

In a minute MePhone was mostly limp, falling asleep in the comfort of OJ's arms. OJ ruffled MePhone's hair, unable to resist the urge. The smaller man's black hair was very soft, even if tangled.

He just said there for a moment, his hand running through MePhone's hair the whole time. Soon it was apparent that the sleeping one won't be waking up soon, and OJ was okay with that, having someone that cute in his arms was amazing. He carefully layed down, placing MePhone on his chest, wrapping his arms around him, causing him to snuggle closer.

“Good night,” OJ whispered. Letting his eyes close slowly, and falling soundly asleep as well.
