Chapter Text
Yūichirō Amane considered himself prepared for the worst. After traveling with his adopted guardian and shit parent figure, Guren Ichinose, for three years, and after being homeschooled by said shit parent figure, Yuu never had much time to make friends or become social. Needless to say, he decided TV dramas were the best way to study up on social interactions with peers. It wasn't the greatest way, but it was the best he could come up with. It wasn't as if he could ask Guren for help.
He knew, of course, that he would be tested on said knowledge of social interactions, and what better test was there then highschool? That's why, when Guren had finally decided to settle down for a while in his childhood town, Yuu was both thrilled and terrified to get enrolled in Second Shibuya High School. It would be the first time he'll learn in an actual school in years.
Yuu had a plan. He would become one of the most popular boy in school, have lots of faithful followers, and rule the school. He'd seen teens on TV do it, how hard could it be? Yuu wasn't that naive, though. He knew it might take a while, and school may kill him in the meantime, but he was prepared.
Of course, he wasn't at all prepared for what had happened on the first day.
"Quit grinning like an idiot," Guren scowled, carefully placing a card on his card tower. It was really tall and looked uncannily like the Eiffel Tower. "It makes me want to throw up."
"Maybe if you stop wasting your life and start acting like a damn adult then maybe I will," Yuu snapped back. He tried focusing on his Cheerios, the grains swimming in the sea of milk, but nervousness and excitement coursed through him. Today was the first day of school for him.
Guren sighed from the other end of the table. The card tower stood impresively besides him, in all its magnificent card glory. Guren's normally well kept black hair was mussed and his violet eyes had eye bags underneath them. His sweatpants dangled low on his hips and his shirt was inside out. He looked like hell.
"You look like hell," Yuu remarked.
Guren shot him a glare. "It's your fault for snoring all night-"
Yuu blushed. "I do not snore!" He cried indigently.
Guren ignored him. "I stayed up all night going over the tuition for your enrollment. Sometimes I wonder why I can't homeschool you. It's a lot cheaper and a hell of a lot better than what they could teach you."
"Get a job if you're so worried about the money," Yuu said, noisily slurping up the milk. "You're twenty-four, it's not that difficult."
"I already have a job," Guren sighed. "But right now I'm not working, so I'm not getting paid."
"Get a side job," Yuu shrugged. "Maybe you can work in a circus, it seems like the best job for your clownish face."
Guren scowled at him. "What made you turn into such a sarcastic little piece of shit? I remember when you were still cute."
"You're the one who raised me, who's fault is that?" Yuu smirked.
Yuu wasn't sure exactly why Guren adopted him, considering how much he hates kids. He still remembered waking up that fateful morning with the director of the orphanage smiling happily at him as he introduced him to his new "father". Guren had immediately shot that down, asking to be called Guren instead. Yuu wasn't sure what to think of the young man in front of him, who barely looked out of highschool. He didn't want to leave the orphanage either. He would miss all of his friends and the nice directors. Guren must've sensed his hesitation because he then made a fleeting remark about having strawberry shortcake in the backseat of his car and, needless to say, Yuu had forgotten all about his friends and the nice directors really quick.
Yuu was not exactly proud of that memory.
Guren smacked Yuu on the head. "Go on and get going, you have about ten minutes to get to school and I'm not driving you."
"Huh?" Yuu exclaimed. "But the school is so far away and I don't have money for the bus!"
"Then you better run," Guren smirked. Yuu wanted nothing more than to smack his guardian really really hard.
Yuu grabbed his backpack, his school jacket, and an apple to snack on before racing out the door. Even as he was leaving, he could still hear Guren's stupid laugh behind him.
Stupid Guren, Yuu thought angrily. Making me run to school instead of driving me like a normal adult. Is he even twenty-four?
At this rate, Yuu would be late on his first day of school. Great, just great.
It was at the entrance to the school that Yuu started to think. Okay, so maybe the day wasn't turning out as great as he thought it would. Yuu blamed Guren. It was just the beginning, surely the day couldn't get any worse.
Yuu tripped on his untied shoelace.
"Fuc-!"
Great, just great.
"You're late." A voice above him said haughtily.
Yuu looked up, his black hair falling into his eyes. Standing above him was a petit girl with lilac hair pulled back with a purple bow. She was wearing the standard uniform for Second Shibuya High female students. Her emotionless amber eyes narrowed at him mockingly.
"Oh, what's this? You thought no one would notice you being late for class? You are sorely mistaken."
Yuu's face burned as he hastily got up. He's smoothed down his uniform, fully aware now of every wrinkle and crease, every smudge of dirt and grass. He checked his green watch and sucked in a tight breath. To think that he was that late. It was all stupid Guren's fault.
"I-I'm sorry...um..-"
"Hīragi Shinoa, class 2a representative," she proclaimed, as if that was a big deal.
"Um...Hīragi-san-"
"Just call me Shinoa," Shinoa Hīragi interrupted.
"Look, Shinoa-san, I'm really sorry, but if I don't get to class soon, I'll be even more late."
Shinoa pressed her lips together, as if contemplating his fate. The small girl, despite her size, looked threatening with her amber eyes. Yuu hoped that she wasn't one of those mean girls like in those dramas he watched. It would really be troublesome if he already had someone hating him on his very day.
Shinoa sighed. "Well, fine. You can go, but don't think we're done here."
"Thank you!" Yuu exclaimed. He patted down his black hair once before taking off towards the entrance to the school. He may have been late, but it was all that girls fault. If he had to blame anyone, it was her.....and stupid Guren. Hopefully he wouldn't get in to too much trouble. The day would turn out fine, hopefully.
Oh how wrong was he.
