BEAST RECORD
5th Rhythm of Trudge, 51 A.C
Silver Scaled Blacksmithing Dragon recovered from Vastus. The team consisted of four beast wranglers: Oberon Knotley, Galen Drabeck, Orchid Tenibris, and Zennia Serphant. The beast showed signs of extreme aggression, Wrangler Serphant deduces that it is due to the beast’s injuries. Swamp dragon was taken from the island at 1500 hours via boat. Beast was kept in the cargo hold and was sedated for the duration of the journey to the Latissa sector of the BIRAC. Monitoring is ongoing.
- Caton Ebonywood, Head of Wrangler Sector
6th Rhythm of Trudge, 51 A.C
Swamp dragon arrived at the Latissa BIRAC at 600 hours and received a small sedative after showing signs of aggression to Wrangler Tenibris. Beast was brought to the healing center to receive a physical and treatment for various injuries.
Note from Fabula Lovelace, lead animal healer: Swamp dragon received multiple superficial injuries spanning the face, neck, body, and tail. Minor treatment was needed. One major injury was recorded: the left wing at the base had a deep wound measured at 0.5 cm thick. A healing coven doctor was brought in to suture the wound and it has been estimated that 2-3 weeks of healing time is needed.
34th Rhythm of Trudge, 51 A.C.
Silver Scaled Blacksmithing Dragon has fully recovered and has been cleared with numerous health checks.
Beast Caregiver Alistair Barclay attempted to feed the beast before training. It refused feedings directly from the caregiver. Beast attempted to bite Barclay upon them attempting to feed the beast from their hand. Feedings will now be contactless in order to ensure the beast is eating and for the safety of the caregivers.
Beast seems to have calmed down, but still shows signs of major aggression. Lead Beast Tamer Farina Snow has been summoned in an attempt to tame the beast.
Upon entering the arena, the beast started moving its head aggressively in a nodding motion, showing its horns. He began moving to the far end of the arena away from Tamer Snow and started pacing while nodding its head and swinging its tail in an arc. Head Witch Eberwolf’s conjecture is that the beast is demonstrating fear and is in no way aggressive.
Listening to The Head Witch’s advice, Snow enters the arena in an effort to converse with the beast and try to earn its trust. Snow’s demeanor is rigid and stiff, her face is set in a deep frown as she attempts to communicate with the beast. The beast watches Snow enter, keeping to the far end of the arena. Beast has changed its posture to keep low to the ground, and he has formed his wings into an umbrella shape. Snow concludes that it is a defense mechanism. Beast appears to be threatened by Snow's presence. Will continue to monitor and connect.
37th Rhythm of Trudge, 51 A.C.
Tamer Snow has been tasked to reenter the arena in an effort to continue taming the beast. Head Witch Eberwolf will monitor the interaction and provide direct coaching on how to tame the beast.
Head Witch Eberwolf’s Coaching Plan:
- Keep demeanor and facial expressions gentle
- Do not be scared, the beast is more frightened of you than you are of it.
- Make sure to keep intentions pure, dragons can sense when a witch has ill intent, we are here to earn the beast’s trust, not enslave it.
ON BEHALF OF EMPEROR BELOS: The beast will be enslaved, it shall be used in the police sectors for enforcement and control due to its horrifying nature. Beast cannot know of the true intentions of the Emperor’s Coven, this will be kept confidential from the tamers of the Beast Keeping Coven
- Head Witch Lilith Clawthorne
Tamer Snow enters the arena, Head Witch Eberwolf and Snow notice a change in demeanor. When the beast is alone, it will pace and attempt to fly before hitting the caged cover of the arena. Beast is trying to escape containment, fight or flight initiated. Beast is erratic and must be approached with extreme caution; has not attempted to use fire, but Tamer Snow has taken the proper precautions in the event the beast chooses to use fire.
Tamer Snow has entered the arena and the beast acted uncharacteristically aggressive, now charging at Tamer Snow. Beast was growling and quickly snapping at Snow. Snow acted quickly and used a spell to subdue the beast, pinning it to the ground. The beast continued to struggle and began to attempt to bite Tamer Snow. Snow increased her spell power to keep the beast on the ground, however it is a powerful creature. The beast had to be silenced by Head Witch Eberwolf and Tamer Snow was evacuated. A new tamer will replace her for the next session.
40th Rhythm of Trudge, 51 A.C.
A temperament warning has been issued to the beast. All tamers have been warned that the creature is temperamental and to proceed with caution. Despite arguing from his inner circle, Head Witch Eberwolf has decided to name the beast “Ryoko”. The Head Witch demands the Beast Keeping Coven refers to the beast as such.
Leander Wood, a member of Head Witch Eberwolf’s inner circle has replaced Lead Tamer Snow in attempting to tame Ryoko. Prior to their promotion to the inner circle, Wood was a skilled beast tamer known to “tame the untamable” as declared by Emperor Belos. Upon entering the arena, Ryoko immediately became aggressive. Wood concludes his initial reaction is due to fear, so they continue into the arena while attempting to make their stance as non threatening as possible.
Ryoko responds with aggression, he charges at Wood and attempts to bite them. He makes a snapping noise with his mouth and gives Wood warning vocalizations in the form of clicking and chirping. Head Witch Eberwolf notes that Ryoko is initiating warning calls to Wood to not approach.
Wood decides to continue to approach Ryoko, ignoring all calls of warning. Ryoko creates distance between himself and Wood, still chirping and clicking his teeth. He begins flapping his wings, opening them and closing them rapidly as if to appear bigger. When wood gets into Ryoko’s personal space the beast reacts too quickly for anybody to prevent anything.
He snaps at Wood, paired with a large puff of smoke and shouts of pain, forces Head Witch Eberwolf to enter the arena. When the smoke clears, Ryoko is at the top of the arena, holding onto the cage attempting to escape. Wood is on the floor of the arena with substantial injuries, mainly burns and teeth marks on his hand that have drawn profuse amounts of blood.
The Healing Coven was sent to collect Wood and will update on their condition. Report of the incident along with a note of Leander Wood’s condition has been recorded and sent to the Emperor’s Coven and attached into the beast’s file.
NOTE FROM DR. ISIDORA GRAVES:
Mx. Leander Wood’s injuries are major but not severe. They have second degree burns and the bite marks left significant holes in the hands that could not be fixed with magic alone and required stitches. Mx. Wood will make a complete recovery and have minor scarring from the incident.
45th Rhythm of Trudge, 51 A.C.
Beast Euthanasia Status: APPROVED
Beast Euthanasia Date: FT: R-10th
1st Rhythm of First Till, 51 A.C.
Ryoko has been moved to a separate arena chamber awaiting euthanasia. Ryoko is still showing signs of aggression and defensiveness.
When being moved, Ryoko resisted and attempted to bite and scratch transport personnel. Had to administer 100mg of Giant Sleeping Nettles to sedate.
Upon waking up, Ryoko reverted back to violent and aggressive tendencies. Reports from personnel show that he is trying to escape via ripping the net above the enclosure.
Will continue to monitor.
8th Rhythm of First Till, 51 A.C
Head Witch Eberwolf has responded to an objection to the euthanizing of Ryoko.
Objection has been filed by Beast Taming Rookie, Aine Whispers. Her file has been attached:
Head Witch Eberwolf will call a meeting with Miss Whispers in regards to her objection, despite his inner circle advising against it. Head Witch is adamant that all members of his coven be represented and listened to, though a couple members of the inner circle believe she is getting special treatment due to Miss Whisper’s family connections. Head Witch Eberwolf assures that’s not the case.
9th Rhythm of First Till, 51 A.C.
When Aine Whispers arrived at the Beast Keeping Coven Headquarters in the morning, she was immediately called in to speak with Head Witch Eberwolf. The conversation was recorded and it is as follows:
HEAD WITCH: Miss Aine, thank you for meeting with me.
MISS WHISPERS: Of course, I would never turn down a meeting with the Head Witch.
HEAD WITCH : It has come to our attention that you want to attempt to tame Ryoko the Dragon?
Miss Whispers is seen nodding eagerly and her body language shows she is excited.
MISS WHISPERS: Yes, I would like to. I’ve been watching you and Leander try to tame him and I think I can do it.
Head Witch Eberwolf appears surprised and slightly put off by Miss Whisper’s statement.
HEAD WITCH: That’s quite the statement, Aine. You’ve only been in the coven for six months. That’s barely any time to learn beast keeping magic in the field.
MISS WHISPERS: I know I’m inexperienced, Head Witch, but I think I can do this. I know I have what it takes if you will just let me try.
Head Witch Eberwolf does not speak for several moments, he appears to be deep in thought.
HEAD WITCH: This is a big decision Miss Whispers, I hope you understand that it will take me a few days to make a decision.
Miss Whispers appears dejected at the statement, giving Head Witch Eberwolf a pointed glance.
MISS WHISPERS: You’re not going to tell my Noni right?
Head Witch Eberwolf crosses his arms and frowns, giving Miss Whispers a stern expression.
HEAD WITCH: Raine will want to know their daughter is attempting to tame a dangerous animal. One that has been known to wound your coven mates.
Miss Whispers, despite being eighteen years of age, begins to pout. Head Witch Eberwolf rolls his eyes and stands up.
MISS WHISPERS: When can I hear back?
HEAD WITCH: By the end of the week. I’ll see you then, Aine.
Head Witch Eberwolf has scheduled a meeting with his inner circle and Raine Whispers, Conductor of the Bard Coven who is the parent of Aine Whispers. The inner circle is staunchly against this last ditch effort to tame the beast. Leander Wood thinks this change in attitude from the Head Witch is due to friendly connections between Head Witch Eberwolf and Conductor Whispers.
14th Rhythm of First Till, 51 A.C.
After much deliberation and discussion between Head Witch Eberwolf’s inner circle and Conductor Whispers, Head Witch Eberwolf has agreed to allow Aine Whispers to attempt to tame the beast with supervision from Head Witch Eberwolf directly as per the request of Conductor Whispers. Miss Whispers seems to be upset at this arrangement but agrees.
Head Witch Eberwolf has also given Miss Whispers a stipulation for taming Ryoko: If she fails at taming him, the result is immediate euthanasia. Miss Whispers refused the terms at first, not wanting Ryoko to be euthanized so quickly but she eventually agreed to it. Miss Whispers and Head Witch Eberwolf outline their terms and agree to start the taming process on 16th Rhythm of First Till, 51 A.C.
Specialized Beast Taming Log
Only to be used for Specialized Taming Plans
Tamer Name: Aine C. Whispers
Beast Name: Ryoko
Beast Information: See official log
Specialized Taming Start Date: FT: R-16th, 51 A.C
The following log is to be completed only by the tamer listed above. If another member wishes to edit the log they must report to the Head Witch.
16th Rhythm of First Till, 51 A.C.
Prior to starting the taming process, extensive research of Ryoko’s breed, temperament, and health history is mandatory. Having extensive knowledge about him will help in creating plans for approaching him. Based on the history listed in the log, Ryoko needs patience and slow trust building rather than forcing him to comply with mindless obedience.
Notes about Silver Scaled Blacksmithing Dragon Temperament: “Blacksmithing Dragons, particularly the Silver Scaled ones tend to be wary and skittish. They have been accustomed to centuries of hunting due to the heat resistant nature of their scales. Silver Scaled Blacksmithing Dragons will approach if demeanor is calm and movements are kept slow. Any sudden movement can and will result in them running off or breathing fire in defense”- Boiling Isles Dragon Breed Compendium by Ember Interfector.
Based off of the temperament and recommended methods of approach, a list has been compiled with ideas on how to approach Ryoko:
- Do not engage until Ryoko approaches first.
- Have Ryoko become accustomed to witch presence. Maybe if he sees we’re not a threat then he won't be as mean!
- Once he is accustomed, then we can try contact, but baby steps only! He’s scared.
17th Rhythm of First Till, 51 A.C.
The first day of training was spent carrying out phase one of Ryoko’s training. It’s going to be an action packed day full of sitting and reading. Aine sat down at the center of the arena with a blanket and a bag filled with things to keep occupied. Aine does not move or engage with Ryoko in any way.
Upon entering, Ryoko reacted in fear and made various chirps and noises of disapproval. He stayed low to the ground and kept his wings out in an attempt to seem bigger than he is.
Aine did not react at all to Ryoko’s gripes of fear. She kept on reading and did not engage with Ryoko in any way. Any time Aine moved, even if it was to flip the pages of her book or she picked up a new item to pass the time, Ryoko would let out screeches of disapproval and pushed back into the wall of the arena. Aine felt bad about scaring him so badly, but she hoped that eventually he would relax somewhat and not be as frightened of her. When she would take a break from reading, she kept her eye on him. Aine made sure to keep her emotions calm and even so as to not frighten Ryoko.
Since Ryoko didn’t attack her, Aine sees this day as a good one and a good first step to getting Ryoko to trust her.
18-44th Rhythm of First Till, 51 A.C.
The past three and a half weeks of First Till have been the same pattern of sitting in the center of the arena and passing the time by reading and remaining quiet to ensure Ryoko remains calm throughout the duration of Aine’s time in the arena.
There have been no accidents and Ryoko does not get close to Aine and she keeps her distance from him. Aine uses magic to create a calm and inviting setting around herself to show Ryoko she is not a threat.
Ryoko seems to be getting more comfortable with her presence, he has slowly started to relax when she is in the arena. He no longer makes chirps of fear and flutters his wings to appear larger. He now keeps to the ground and watches her, if she moves suddenly he jumps back into the wall. He is not as outwardly aggressive which is noted as progress with his temperament.
On the 30th rhythm, Ryoko had started to move around the arena, no longer confining himself to his safe spot in the back of the arena. Aine keeps an eye on him and he watches her as well when he walks around the arena. If Aine tries to move, he lets out a threatening shriek and returns to his corner of the arena.
Aine decides to keep her movements slow when she does need to move in the arena and she talks to him. Ryoko is receptive to her voice. He stares at her and his cranium tendrils will move in reaction to her voice, Aine and Leander Wood will research this reaction to see what it means.
NOTE FROM LEANDER WOOD
“Miss Aine and myself have been in the Beast Keeping Coven Archival Library in an attempt to find books about dragons. Unfortunately for us, most of the books about dragons have been destroyed since they were written during the Savage Ages. It’s good that we no longer have reminders of our uncivilized past, but it’s a bit inconvenient that finding material is rather hard. We did find a book about reptilian creatures and their mannerisms. According to the text, cranium tendrils moving in response to auditory stimuli means that the beast likes the sound. Will alert Miss Aine on my find.”
1st Rhythm of Julymph, 51 A.C.
After discovering Ryoko likes the sound of her voice, Aine continues to talk to him when she comes in every morning. It’s clear Ryoko is starting to get more comfortable and it is very hopeful to see.
It should also be noted that throughout Aine’s time in the arena, Ryoko has not made a single noise of fear or disapproval as Aine continues talking to him while she stays put.
16th Rhythm of Julymph, 51 A.C.
This is now the second month of taming Ryoko and there have already been long strides made in the effort to socialize him. This may very well make Ryoko start over in terms of being accustomed to witches, but he needs to get used to one moving around him.
Will ask permission from Head Witch Eberwolf to get closer to the beast. This will be the big ticket way to get Ryoko’s trust.
NOTE FROM HEAD WITCH EBERWOLF:
Miss Aine does have clearance to approach Ryoko, however due to his history of hurting other witches I will be watching to make sure she stays safe. As much as I want him to be docile, I can’t take any chances especially with Conductor Whispers’ daughter of all people.
18th Rhythm of Julymph, 51 A.C.
Starting today, Aine begins moving around the arena. In order to make this easier, Aine begins upkeep of his enclosure. Aine also starts talking to him. She talks to him the entire time she’s there. She talks to him about a lot of things, mostly about work in the Beast Keeping coven. Aine does keep her distance from him and lets him come close if he wants. She does not want to get too close and risk him getting scared or her getting hurt.
Ryoko is less than pleased to see a witch walking around the arena. When Aine started to move things around he kept to the walls of the arena. He keeps his head down to the ground and his wings are partially opened on his sides in fear.
19th Rhythm of Julymph, 51 A.C.
Aine’s routine started with giving Ryoko his feed for the day. Aine walked past Ryoko and he jumped in fear, making a noise of aggression. Head Witch Eberwolf has been monitoring Aine’s progress and ensuring she is kept safe. The Head Witch stays out of the arena since Ryoko has made it clear that he does not like the Head Witch in his habitat.
33rd Rhythm of Julymph, 51 A.C.
Throughout Aine’s time with Ryoko she has ensured to maintain a gentle and quiet diction with her voice along with slower movements even as she works around the arena. Unlike the first few weeks of their interactions, Ryoko has gotten used to her mannerisms much quicker than he has this time around.
1st Rhythm of The Grand Harvest, 51 A.C.
Ryoko had started expecting Aine's visits. Most of Aine’s coven mates find this odd, as Ryoko has never had a history of liking witches. Starting yesterday morning, he has waited for her at the witch entrance of the arena. He sits in front of the door, lying on his stomach which was noted by Head Witch Eberwolf. When she arrives, however, entering the arena slowly like she always does, she is surprised to see him so close to her. However when she went to walk past him, he quickly ran away to his preferred corner. He watches her with more intensity however and he begins to wag his tail.
This is a shocking revelation for all of the witches involved as Ryoko has never expressed happiness being around a witch before. Aine is overjoyed to see him happy to see her, however she is very disappointed to see he still will not allow her to get close to him. Aine compares his behavior to that of an excited dog, who wants to be pet but is too nervous to approach.
4th Rhythm of The Grand Harvest, 51 A.C.
NOTE FROM HEAD WITCH EBERWOLF:I have been keeping a close eye on Aine’s progress during her time with Ryoko in case of any emergencies, however she has only made excellent developments with Ryoko. I am hopeful for Ryoko and pleased with Aine’s progress. I am very happy she is a witch in my coven.
A new idea was proposed by Aine and she will be putting it into action: in order to push Ryoko to come closer, he will be getting a treat directly from Aine’s hand every morning when she arrives and greets him.
6th Rhythm of The Grand Harvest, 51 A.C.
Today is the first day of the treat giving system, Aine has brought some dried voles from an undisclosed source that she will not name but assures it is ethical.
Upon entering, Aine holds out the dried vole and she is unmoving in order to not scare Ryoko. Ryoko approaches slowly and leans his head forward to sniff the vole and then Aine’s hand. Aine keeps perfectly still and Ryoko takes the vole from her hand. Aine says Ryoko’s breath was hot enough to irritate her skin for a few hours.
7th-39th Rhythm of The Grand Harvest, 51 A.C.
Due to the monotony of the last several weeks and the multitude of holidays during this time of year, Aine has not needed to update the record log.
Aine has made a habit to bring Ryoko various treats throughout the day in an effort to gain more trust and a good rapport with him. Ryoko has grown to expect her treats and waits for her to bring them every morning. Aine remarks how he always sniffs her hand before taking the treat from her. She also notices how gentle he is when he takes the treat from her hand.
Head Witch Eberwolf says that with time he thinks that Ryoko will be able to function normally amongst witches. He’s hopeful about Ryoko’s fate.
6th Rhythm of Sun’s Smite, 51 A.C.
First contact happens. Aine was doing her normal rounds of the arena, feeding him and cleaning his enclosure, but she admits she forgot to bring Ryoko his treat. It had slipped her mind and she noticed that Ryoko appeared to be upset but it didn’t occur to her at first. He began making unusual clicking noises, however he did not have any telltale signals of aggression so Aine wrote it off as being vocalizations and she ignored them.
In retaliation, he pushed his nose into Aine's back while she was cleaning. Aine, not expecting this from Ryoko, yelps in surprise. She made quite the spectacle and this spooked Ryoko for a moment. He jumped and began making clicking noises of disapproval but he nudged her again. She turned around to give him his treat, and she made the decision to try to touch him, but before she could pet his nose, he ran from her. The news of Ryoko’s little touch made it to Head Witch Eberwolf and he is jovial.
NOTE FROM HEAD WITCH EBERWOLF:
The news from Aine about Ryoko touching her is wonderful! However Conductor Raine Whispers is extremely uncomfortable at the prospect of their daughter actively touching the beast so they will be coming in to watch, since they don’t trust me, apparently.
8th Rhythm of Sun’s Smite, 51 A.C.
Under the watchful eye of Head Witch Eberwolf and Conductor Raine Whispers, Aine began to shift her methods to get Ryoko comfortable enough to let Aine get close. The goal is to make Ryoko comfortable with witch touch.
First, she tries holding her hand out to him while he eats his treat, however upon trying to touch his nose he pulls away with loud chittering noises.
9th Rhythm of Sun’s Smite, 51 A.C.
Aine will attempt a different approach for trying to touch Ryoko. She starts to play with him. Ryoko has taken to a piece of driftwood that was in the arena and he will play with it quite often.
Aine goes and picks it up to play tug of war with him. Ryoko greatly enjoys this, even not being as forceful so that Aine can pull with him and they can play properly. When he gets close, Aine takes the opportunity to touch his nose but he pulls away quickly, taking the driftwood with him and sending Aine flying several feet in the air but she is able to have her landing broken by magic from Conductor Raine Whispers. They are less than pleased with this incident but unfortunately for them it is part of Aine’s job.
12th Rhythm of Sun’s Smite, 51 A.C.
Aine tried something completely and utterly stupid that resulted in her being kept from the arena for two days. (Sun Smi: R-12th, 51 A.C.- Sun Smi: R-14th, 51 A.C.)
Aine’s third technique for trying to touch Ryoko was to pet his side while he was eating, ignoring all past warnings to not approach beasts while they eat. Ryoko snapped at her and she got some minor scratches on her hand, thankfully the injury is not severe but Conductor Whispers insists on making sure she has a break for a few days.
21st Rhythm of Sun’s Smite, 51 A.C.
Ryoko starts showing first signs of trust and Head Witch Eberwolf is very pleased with Aine’s work. Aine completes her daily routine as she normally does. As she works cleaning the arena and feeding him she will talk and sing to him as Aine has discovered this relaxes him.
Following her tidying for the day she typically will read in her designated spot in the arena. She will usually do this until her shift has ended for the day. Approximately an hour into Aine’s reading time she feels a presence near her. Ryoko walked over to her and he sat beside her. He presses his nose against her leg and watches her intently. She watches back, wondering what his move is going to be next.
Aine slowly reached her hand out to pet him but he responded by jerking away, however when she retreats her hand from his head he laid back down to press his nose into her leg. Aine is content with letting him do that and she admits that it’s quite adorable to see him like this.
1st Rhythm of Auguts, 51 A.C.
Ryoko has gone from expecting Aine’s presence to being fully excited when she comes in for the day. He jumps around her, making trills of excitement at her presence. Aine finds it endearing and she tries to reach out to pet him again. However, when Aine tries to pet him, he pulls away.
As she was completing her duties for the day he was following her around closely, watching her every move and making various noises, but none of aggression. Any time Aine gets close enough to touch, he jumps back but he does not act aggressively this time, he is acting out of nervousness. Head Witch Eberwolf thinks he's overly excited.
After she finished her work, Aine sat down in the arena down for her daily reading. He started getting closer to her, stopping whenever Aine looked up he would turn his head away. This kept on happening until his head was fully resting in her lap. Aine took this as her moment to try to pet him again. She slowly held up her hand to his nose. He reached up to sniff her hand before he nudged it, signaling the okay for her to pet him. She started at his head, gently touching his scales and smiling when he started to trill and purr in response.
It was unknown that dragons could even purr at all!
SPECIALIZED LOG STOPS HERE
Other notes regarding Beast:
Ryoko has been fully tamed as of the 10th Rhythm of Auguts, 51 A.C., completed by Tamer Aine Whispers. Due to her involvement in taming the beast, he has completely bonded to her and any attempt to put him with another witch has failed.
Ryoko can safely be around witches however, he is quite skittish but he is no longer aggressive to witches. Emperor Belos’ attempts to use Ryoko for prisoner transport have failed due to Ryoko’s fear of other witches. In the meantime he is under the direct care of Miss Whispers. His job in the coven is unclear at the moment but Miss Whispers has been caring for him and he might need to be released from the care of the coven and put into the personal care of Miss Whispers.
