A Father's Duty.

Summary:

As Adam's body slowly disintegrates, he's met by a familiar being.

An alternate ending to the Adam and Zeus fight.

Notes:

My first ever fanfiction, don't expect anything too crazy. I wasn't really happy with how it turned out, but I can't complain as for it's my first story and it's impossible to be perfect.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

"I've... lost."

The progenitor of Humanity stated to himself, as he slowly started to disintegrate into a pulchrous green powder.

He'd have a look at his opponent, Zeus. He was currently kneeling in front of him, in a critical state.

He'd then have a look at his Valkyrie partner, giving her a smile which needed no words to convey what it meant. A thank you for fighting along side him.

Adam would soon have his final moments, giving Eve, Cain and Abel a loving smile a father would to his family before he and Reginleif were whisked away completely to Niflheim. Or rather, what should've been the case.

"Is this how Niflheim is like?"

Adam would question himself as he looked around the white, empty void. This would be proven wrong fairly quickly as a familiar, warm and caring voice would quickly snap him out of his thoughts. "Father, it's been too long." Adam starts the conversation, happy with his reunion with his father, God.

"Indeed it has, Adam. I watched your fight against Zeus."

Adam would give a sad smile. "Did I do well, father?"

"You did more than well, my son." Responded God, which simply made Adam smile.

"So dad, why did you bring me here? Why am I not in Niflheim?" Questions Adam in his usual monotone voice, waiting for an answer.

"I want to revive you, Adam. I wanted to bring you here to discuss this. I want to revive you because you deserve it. Even if you've ate the forbidden fruit, you've performed your duties diligently and to the upmost degree, not only uniting all of humanity in one singular moment, but also being a glimmer of hope they can believe in." Would respond God.

Adam's lips begin to curl up, giving him a grateful yet conflicted look. "As much as I want to, interference from the divine or humanity is against the rules, we probably can't."

"While that is true, I plan to give you revival as an ability. An ability through which you've obtained through using divine reflection on a God you haven't fought or killed, just as an excuse for you to be able to revive. Well, that's if they even want an explanation anyways."

Adam let's out a little chuckle. "If you think it'll work, I'll follow along. Genuinely though, thank you father. Thank you so much."

God laughs as well before sending him back. "Until next time, Adam."

Adam also bids farewell, before being enveloped in a bright light.

As Zeus would slowly begin to leave the arena with assistance from Hermes, the cries of humanity would soon grow louder as they pay their respects to the fallen warrior. More importantly, their father.

Then suddenly, the green particles that were flying to the blue sky would suddenly and slowly reassemble. The cries of humanity would go on a halt as they witnessed this phenomenon.

The once raged-filled face on Brunhilde would shift into one of confusion and hope. Hope that Adam is alive so she could rub it in that bastards face Zeus after.

As all particles finally linked up together, the once dead man and Valkyrie, stood there.

Adam would clench his hand into a fist a few times to get a feel for being, before putting on a grin.

To say things went from zero to hundred real quick would be an understatement.

"IMPOSSIBLE! THIS HUMAN SHOULD BE DEAD!" Ares let's out an ear-shattering scream as the chair he was sitting on gets destroyed to pieces.

Hermes would have the same shocked expression, albeit being silent throughout the ordeal while helping Zeus stay up.

"How are you still alive, boy?" Zeus would ask the golden question that's on everyone's mind.

Adam would let out a quick sigh before responding. "It's simple really, how could a father stay dead knowing it upsets his children?"

Zeus lets out a cough. "Well, it's a loss for me then. I'm too bad in a shape to even continue."

Heimhall would grab his horn and announce the new victor. "Due to a shocking development in the match, the new victor is... ADAM!"

As if the yelling from the humans and Gods could not get louder, it does.

"Adam! Adam! Adam! Adam! Adam!" Humanity cheers.

"What is this?! Something's up! This isn't fair!" The God's yell.

As Adam leaves the arena, he passes out as even if he was revived, he wasn't brought back at best shape. Thankfully Brunhilde's there to help him.

Adam groggily opens his eyes, staring at an unfamiliar ceiling. A voice from behind a door would cut the silence.

"For the last time Eve, he's not dead. He's just rejuvenating."

"Please, let me see my darling!"

"Please stop worrying, mother."

"Yeah mother, Dad's fine."

Adam could not make out the voices, a little grunt escapes his throat.

The door opens, revealing Brunhilde, Cain, Abel and Eve.

Adam smiles weakly, to which Brunhilde could not hold back her grin. Cain and Abel hold their fathers hand and cry, grateful for his presence. Then out of nowhere he's tackled into a bone-crushing hug.

"Darling! I'm so happy you're here... Please, don't leave me again...!" Eve would say, each word being between heavy sobbing.

"He's still recovering Eve. Maybe hug him less tight." Explains Brunhilde.

Adam gently returns her hug.

"It's okay now, I'm here. After all, how could a father leave his family?"

Notes:

Thanks for reading up to this point! Hope you liked my first story, I kept coping over Adam's death so is basically my copium. I wrote his revival how I thought most creators would, with the whole meeting God thing.

I'm thinking of maybe doing another chapter but with Eve being very clingy towards Adam as she's afraid to lose him again, basically a wholesome chapter.
