Long ago, humans and monsters had a war. The humans won, locking away the monsters. They are stuck in a land called the underground.
The monsters have been stuck in the underground for hundreds of years. They've been hoping to escape to the surface all those years. To escape, they need to break something called the barrier.
The barrier is the magical wall keeping them underground. It is said when things pass through the barrier and into the Underground, they can never leave. Seven human souls are needed to break the barrier.
Mt. Ebott was the only entryway to the underground, which was through a hole. When children had fallen, they would be injected with a substance to keep them as children.
This is because only human children and all monsters had SOULS, and would lose them when they grew up. The SOULS would also be lost if the human were to be killed.
Right now, they have 6 humans. For some unknown reason, the barrier blocks off most people that don't have souls. They need one more child to fall so they can all escape together.
