Battle Royale is a mess of chaos right when you land on the map.
Calvin hadn’t even traveled far before he had to run away from other Players, weaving through the ruined streets of an abandoned village, the demon-hybrid keeping an eye out for a blacksmith of some kind. It didn’t take long before his gaze caught a bright-orange light, seeing an array of furnaces built into the cobblestone walls. He felt a grin etch a way onto his face, as he sprinted over towards the building, pushing open the door, opening chest after chest.
He opened one, hand reaching for an iron sword that was near the bottom, and a few loaves of bread. Calvin quickly put the food in his satchel, before quickly heading towards the door. The echoes of gunshots carried out from a ruined city, and he didn’t want to stick around any longer than he had to.
But he wasn’t even able to take a couple steps out the door before a Player harshly shoved him against the wall, Calvin catching the glint of a small dagger being pointed at his throat. He gritted his teeth, jutting his leg upwards, lifting his foot before colliding his shoe with the joint of their leg. They screamed out in pain, and Calvin took that as an opportunity to bolt. Yet he wasn’t able to get far before they grabbed at his hood, shoving him near the small pit of lava next to the furnaces, the scorching molten nearly burning Calvin’s face.
The dagger was pressing dangerously close now towards his neck, and the demon-hybrid tried to push the Player off of him, to no avail. His head began to get closer, and he felt the heat radiating off of the lava, making it hard to breathe. The cobblestone was digging into his back, painfully, and Calvin was sure the sharp rocks were going to leave sharp cuts on his back—if he even survived his first encounter.
But the echo of a gunshot rang through the air, before a bullet was shot through the Player’s torso, a flash of agony seeping into their expression, before they collapsed onto the ground, hard . Calvin gasped for breath, his heart racing as he tried to catch his bearings. He glanced over to his left, from where the shot came from, and his hand gripped tighter at the handle of the iron sword in his grasp.
The crunch of gravel sounded, as a different Player jumped down from one of the roofs of the houses, a sniper rifle in their hands. They had short, black hair, falling into a swoop over one of their ocean-blue eyes. Calvin took notice that they, for one, were short , very much so for carrying a gun that was a little more than half their size. They wore a black suit, a red tie laced around the collar of a white button-up underneath.
But before Calvin could even react, he saw a faint thread connecting the both of them together, and the demon-hybrid lifted his hand up, surprised to see a dark-purple lace around his pinky finger. He looked up to the other Player, seeing that they, also, had a thread around their hand, instead it was a brighter hue of blue, closely resembling the color of their eyes.
He felt a wave of relief wash over him, and his tail flicked as he raised a hand to give a gesture of a thank you. Thank goodness.
"So, I guess we're-"
"-Teammates," the other Player finished for him, and they smiled, relieved as well. "Oh, thank goodness. I thought I was gonna have to fight you as well."
"All luck, I guess," Calvin huffed a laugh, walking over to them. "I'm Calvin. You?"
"Nestorio."
"Charmed." He nodded, about to say something else, before another rang of shots sounded in the air, and the two of them turned their heads toward the sound of the noise. It was much closer now, and Nestorio pointed to a dense forest up ahead, away from the village.
"Probably not a good idea to stay here any longer; it's best we'd head that way." He said, slipping his sniper rifle back onto his back.
"Alright, you lead the way. Hopefully I won't trample you or anything-"
"Hey!" Nestorio swatted a hand at Calvin's arm, protesting as the two ran into the forestry. "I-I'm not that short!"
