Work Text:
With the sun rising above them in their closed-off town, a male cheetah wakes up from his sleep. The cause from the alarm he set, from it continuously going off. He then presses the button, like any other day he gets up but he feels the paws and arms of someone with the same ring as him.
“Zech… please stay in bed.” the velvet fox said, enticing him with a tired voice.
“Fabian, you know we have to go to work today,” Zechariah says, holding the fox's paws.
“But can we not just sleep in? Just this once?”
“If you want, you can stay in bed a bit more.”
Fabian groans as he lets go of the cheetah and grabs the sheets, to cover himself more. Zechariah then puts himself together and heads to the bathroom, to make himself more presentable. He looks into the mirror and sees his yellow fur and black spots as he touches himself with his paws. He grooms and cleans himself, he always puts effort into everything he does. Though he tends to overdo it at times.
Once he is done, he puts on the suit he usually wears in his bedroom, a white dress shirt, black pants, jacket, tie, and shoes. It is always the same for him, nothing different because that's how he likes things.
“Do you ever consider changing what you wear, hun?” Fabian says, letting out a yawn while watching him.
“It doesn't seem necessary to me. Besides I don't think I would be much different in other colors,” he says while flattening creases until Fabian hugs him from behind.
“But you always wear white or black, can't you change things up a little bit?” squeezing his stomach a bit.
Zechariah rolls his eyes but tries his best to hold back a smile “I have brown dress shoes and a red tie, will that be enough for you?”
He then kisses his husband's cheek, having to raise his heels with an obvious height difference being the reason. “Yes, that'll make me stop bugging you.” Fabian teases.
“Good, now you should get ready.”
“I think you're forgetting a certain word.” He says while his long fluffy velvet tail crests Zechariah's chin.
“Please?” He finally breaks out a smile.
“Of course hun. I'll be ready in ten, or actually make it fifteen” The fox then enters the bathroom, while the cheetah puts on a different tie and shoes.
Zechariah made his way down to the kitchen, but along the way, he saw the photos and memories that he made with his husband. What stood out to him was a photo of their wedding, which only felt like yesterday. He just feels so much joy knowing how far they have come.
His relationship with Fabian goes back since they were young, however back then it was as stable as it is now. Fabian only cared about himself and ignored the issues he and Zechariah had. While Zechariah himself was cold and consistently brushed off Fabian's feelings. But even with how rocky their past was, everything was now better.
Zechariah enters the kitchen, he starts by brewing coffee and cooking breakfast. The room is filled with the smell of eggs, ham, and toast. Fabian not long after, came in. He was now fully dressed, his outfit in contrast to what Zechariah wore. a blue vest, pants, a white dress shirt, and a gem bolo tie. The tie was a gift from his husband.
“How do I look, Zech?” Fabian says giving him a pose.
“Gorgeous as always,” he says smiling at him.
“Oh, you say that because I'm your husband.”
“I would say it to you no matter what,” Zechariah says, now focusing on Fabian, he holds onto his shoulders.
“Oh, would you now?” He then leans forward peppering him with kisses.
Zechariah carefully made sure he didn't burn their breakfast or himself.
“Alright, that's enough for now, Fabian.”
“Oh alright.” he chuckles, finally releasing Zechariah.
“I just want us to be there before school starts for the students.”
“Why, you got something planned?” Fabian then sits down at their kitchen table.
“Something like that. From what Winston told me, we could be having a new staff member joining us,” he says while removing the food from the hot stove.
“Really, well I can never tell what he says to me.”
“That's mostly because he only speaks in his native language, which I only know.” Zechariah flaunts playfully towards his husband as he hands Fabian his breakfast.
“Well sorry I only learned French, Spanish, and German,” he says, playing along while stabbing his egg with a fork.
“Either way, I just wish for us to greet them once they arrive.” he then sits down with his husband, now with a plate of his food. “most of the Peacekeepers wish to do that.”
“So do you know anything about them? Who are they? What species are they?” Fabian says, sipping his coffee.
“Aside from them going to work at the school, I don't know much else.”
“Weird, hey do you mind if I join you when they arrive?”
Zechariah looks up and says “Of course, I won't stop you.”
Fabian smiles and stares at his husband
“What?”
“Nothing, you're just so…. Amazing.”
Zechariah chuckles “Fabian, you say this every day”
“Well, it doesn't make it any less true.”
He felt so warm every time he heard that, he looked down at his watch and sprung up. “It's getting late, we need to leave.”
Fabian nodded and ate what was left on his plate.
Zechariah had his keys, wallet, and phone. “We need to head to the airport, the other Peacekeepers should be there.”
“Zech?”
“Yes?”
Fabian pulls down Zechariah and gives him another passion-filled kiss. “I love you, hun.”
“I love you too.” Zechariah says “Now come on”
They then hold each other's hands as they then leave their house to start another day in their lives.
