Work Text:
Reo Mikage, always so composed and refined. everyone smiles up at him, a lovely prince; polite, intelligent, social, athletic, and charming.
Nagi Seishirou is no different from the rest, he also gazes at Reo, who's beside him. The heir smiles sweetly at him "Oh, you're Nagi from the noble family visiting here, right? Welcome!"
The latter hums in response. But it's strange, isn't it? He's much more friendly than Nagi had expected— Maybe for the sake of connections? Though it's a little odd, considering their difference in status. Nagi is from a noble family, But Reo Mikage is of royalty, which is completely different. Reo hasn't introduced himself, but of course Nagi knows who he is. Not only that, he's in Nagi's garden. His parents didn't say anything about the prince arriving to their estate. They definitely would've had a bigger welcome for him or sat him down for tea atleast. Did this guy sneak in? Ah, it's a hassle to think about, Nagi's head hurts. Maybe the guards just let him in. Nagi doesn't know, who actually cares anyways? If he wanted something, he should just ask for it, since he's royalty.
"I'm Reo Mikage. But you can just call me Reo!"
"I know." Of course he does.
'.. Can't figure this guy out. Annoying, who cares?', Nagi's seated on the grass and just continues to silently look at the scenery ahead of him.
He realizes the guy is still staring at him. He's pretty, but it's sort of uncomfortable to be stared at for so long. "..What are you doing here?", Nagi finally asks.
"Bored", Reo simply responds.
.. That's it? Wow, this guy really does anything he wants. Maybe he's spoiled. He seems nice though. Looks like the hardworking type, somehow.
Reo continues to talk, "I was on a stroll. On that hilltop over there!" He points to an area over the estate wall. "You can kinda see your garden from there, y'know? And I recognized you laying on the grass so I thought — Why not join you?" The purple-haired boy smiles at him.
"You can see me from there? Creepy." Nagi replies in a monotone voice, he doesn't actually mean to insult in his words but it's true.
"I had nothing to do, I was only greeting you!", Reo puts on an exasperated face but Nagi can tell he's not actually offended. Ugh. He's doing it again. Nagi's not the type to analyze a guy's every word and move the moment they meet, he'd rather not think about anything but this guy seems really interesting for some reason.. Maybe it's cause he's a prince. Or the way he talks. He doesn't seem to be bored of him despite Nagi's lack of response and normally Nagi would find this persistent energy annoying but—
"—Hello! Hey? Nagi..? You falling asleep?", the bright voice sounds from beside him
"Huh? Did you say something?"
"Yes, idiot! Were you not listening? Are you falling asleep?"
"Sorry... By the way, you talk really.. casual, for a prince. You're not being formal." Nagi states as he glances at Reo beside him.
"Oh, screw that!", Reo rolls his eyes. Before pausing then hesitantly speaking, "But, I can if you want me to..? I assumed you'd be fine with it since we're of the same age and you seem.. nice."
"Whatever. I don't mind."
"Alright!", Nagi thinks he must have said something right because Reo seems to manage to look even brighter than he already was.
"Anyways, I was saying; What do you do when you're bored?"
"Huh? Nothing. Sleep." When Nagi says this, Reo stares at him like he's stunned, and blinks twice.
The purple-haired boy tilts his head at him, "Really?"
"...Yeah?", Nagi mimics Reo, tilting his head at him too. Reo thinks he looks like a bunny. Cute! Nagi wonders why the prince pats his head. Now his hair's even messier than it was, like a white pile of fluff.
'So soft', Reo thinks. But remembers what he was going to say, "When I'm bored, I like to fence. Wanna spar?"
Nagi continues to lay his head on the grass, relaxing more. "Mm.. I dunno." He doesn't even have to turn and look at the boy beside him to know that his expression fell, wilted like a flower.
"But why are you asking me? Don't you have like.. a personal trainer? For fencing?"
The 'flower' seems to sprout up again at the mention of his interest, even just from the word. He must really like fencing. "Cause! If you fence with the same person over and over, their style might be familiar to you— and it gets repetitive! Plus even if you don't know the basics, I think you can do it."
Nagi's utterly confused this time, just staring at Reo for elaboration. "You're flexible! I saw you earlier, when you were laying down. You were in some odd position."
"It's comfortable."
"And if you're flexible, then that's an advantage to fencing! To fence, you gotta woosh." Reo makes some stabbing motion in the air.
The white haired noble squints at him. "Pardon?", He has no idea what this guy's talking about. Didn't anyone teach this prince how to properly explain things?
"It's like a duel, and matches are timed. You try to hit the opponent til you get enough points unless you run out of time."
"Seems easy enough."
"There's fouls though and etiquette."
"Nevermind."
Reo laughs again. 'What a carefree guy', Nagi thinks. "Of course there's rules! Everything has rules, Nagi.", He seems to be speaking from experience here. He looks up at him, his expression's a little bothered. Nagi doesn't like that.
Deciding to backtrack to the topic to lighten the mood, Nagi offers ".. Okay. I can try."
The sun seems brighter now, or is that Reo? "Really?!"
"Sure, just teach me."
"Okay!'
"Okay."
Reo grabs foils from who knows where and tosses him one. That has to be dangerous, can't be safe but Nagi catches it without thinking anyway so it's not a problem. Nagi starts to copy Reo's stance, he's not really paying attention — but tries to follow the few comments he catches, 'Hold it like this', 'Tighten your grip a little more', 'Good! Let's just work on your footwork'.
He doesn't focus completely, but Nagi's getting the hang of it. And he notices Reo would throw in a few praises then and there for encouragement, it's nice.
They do a few rounds, still conversing in between. "Do— you dance? Nagi?", Reo asks as he dodges Nagi's plunge.
Nagi continues to attack, "No."
"You should! It'll help, there's a ball soon, you'll attend, right?" Of course he will, but he's not sure why Reo's asking this. Ah. Reo scored a point. He's still talking though.
"Dancing helps with footwork. Makes you feel lighter, and your movements become graceful." Nagi scores a point. Reo scores again though. Nagi still thinks he doesn't know much, but he knows well enough to recognize Reo's skill.
"I expect to see you there then?", Reo asks.
"Maybe," Nagi dodges. The other party's eyes obviously sparkle at this. "My parents haven't said anything about it."
"You're being personally invited by the prince himself though?!", Reo attempts to persuade him. "Come on, it'll be fun!", he insists.
Nagi dodges again
He loses his balance and topples over, sitting on the grass. Nagi sighs, 'It's fun, but it's tiring'... He looks up, Reo's standing above him and reaching a hand out to help Nagi. The sun's shining behind him, sunlight against his face and on his hair. He's glowing. "Not bad!"
"Ugh, what the hell..?", the white haired boy groans, averting his eyes and covering his face with one hand.
"You okay? You did good, Nagi! Let me help you up." The Mikage heir chirps.
The boy shakes his head, "No, it's nothing. Just really bright.. I'm tired", Nagi continues to sit down. Reo puts his hand away and wipes the sweat off his face. Was the match that exhausting?
"Aha! You'll spar with me again though, right?! You have to!", Nagi nods, slowly squinting his eyes at him.
"What is it? You keep doing that.", the sun is still against Reo, isn't it hot?
"It's not fair." Nagi lets out a disappointed sigh.
"What is? You'll get better! You're off to a really good start.", Reo kindly encourages him. That's not what he was talking about though.
".. Reo looks like a prince."
There and then, Nagi Seishirou thinks he might die. Maybe it's the heat that's warming his face and making it red. But Reo tucks a strand of his hair behind his ear, even prettier than before and lets out a giggle. He's embarrassed, he looks nice. Pleasant on the eyes. Nagi's not a very opinionated person, but he knows that.
"Cause I am a prince, silly! You sure you're fine?", Reo bashfully replies and decides to grab Nagi's wrist. He pulls him off the ground even if the lazy genius tries to pull his weight down to stay seated.
They're both standing now, Reo's holding his hand. Nagi thinks he doesn't mind being friends with Reo.
