"It feels weird meeting your family, you know I didn't have a big family like yours so I'm not sure how to act..."
Lance and Keith made their way up the driveway to Lance's childhood home. You could easily hear the squealing of kids, the laughter of older adults.
"It'll be fine babes. If you feel over stimulated we can leave. But they're a very welcoming bunch I can promise you that." It'd be a lie to say Lance wasn't worried about how Keith would feel about his family. He didn't want Keith to feel awkward. His family could be too much but he hoped that considering Keith's rough childhood, it would be just the right amount of too much. Lance reaches for the door only for it to be opened by his sister Veronica.
"Took you Lovebirds long enough. Would've started eating without you" They would never.
"UNCLE LANCE!!"
Keith flinched at the abrupt loud voices of children calling his beloved's name.
"Hey you little rascals!" Lance scratched their heads and bend down to hug them. "Oh my god. Did you grow taller!?! Damn chico you're gonna grow taller than your mamá! Don't tell her I said that, she's already salty about me being taller."
"HEY I HEARD THAT!"
"Aw man she heard me!" Lance smirked. He glanced up at Keith who was holding the food and gifts they brought awkwardly. Lance shook his head and rose up to help the poor man out. He set the food down on the table and brought his mans to his former room to put their luggage down. Keith looked more comfortable here. He smiled at the stuffed animals that clearly haven't been touched in a while, much like everything else in the room.
"So this was your room as a kid? It's fitting." Keith chuckled. Lance clicked his tongue, slid his arms around Keith's waist, and placed his head in the crook of his fiance's neck.
"Was that a compliment or an insult, Mullet?"
"You're still on the Mullet thing? Also it was a compliment. I love everything about you. And this room seems so you." Keith realized that sounded incredibly flirtatious and this was not the time or place. But that never mattered to his Husband-to-be now did it?
"My, my, what sweet words Mr. Kogane-McClain~"
"AYE NIÑO! DINNERS READY!" Lance sighed and let go of Keith.
"JUST A TICK MA- Keith did I just say tick instead of second." Lance stood there and his face flushed. Keith bursted out into laughter.
"MIJO DID ONE OF YOU CATCH A TICK?!?"
"NO! SORRY MAMÁ I MEANT SECOND!"
"Oh-oh my - HAHA you actually did oh my god. Babe it's been like 4 years no way you just- HAHAHA!"
"Shut up Keith you still say Quiznack instead of Fuck. Also 4 years is not enough time to get my vocabulary fixed. God we need to stop keeping in touch with Coran. " Keith was still laughing at him, harder even. He was almost on the floor. But they laughed together, just like they did when they were stuck in the stars.
"Yeah! And this girl tried copying off me!! She doesn't get to do that after stealing my favorite pencil." Lance's niece huffed. Keith wanted to try to envelop himself in his in-laws because they were great. So he thought he could start off easy, turns out 10 year olds are no easier, if anything tougher. Keith could hear Lance snickering at him and he replied with a look.
Lance then turned back to his family, theyd always love to hear his stories as a Paladin because there was so much to tell.
"This one alien Slav who was like this super genius", Lance put up his hands to quote, "he was but he had this incredibly concerning obsession with other realities which made him so difficult but he was usually right about everything so we got used to it. It was funny though he was so annoying he managed to get our calm collected leader Shiro to blow up. Only took him a singular dobash I swear." His family's faces shifted to confusion, in the moment Lance assumed it was surprised from the fact. Until his face heated up to the realization. His older sister Veronica noticed quick and started to giggle. You could hear Keith too if you tried hard enough.
"A dobash is what Lance's space buddies used to refer to something similar to minutes as. They're a bit longer but none the less similar." The family making collective 'ooohhh' faces to the explanation. Then the confusion turned into a collective laughter. Lance's face flushing more.
"Son all giggling aside, the fact your bringing new vocabulary means you really absorbed your experience. It makes me proud to be the father of a Paladin of Voltron." Lance smiled.
"Still stuck in the stars aren't you?" Rachel, Lance's twin mouthed to him. Lance scoffed and smiled brightly again.
Dinner continued, jokes were cracked. Lance felt the fullest he ever had with his fiance and his family earnestly listening to his stories. Lance now found himself in Keith's arms on his old bed. Entangling his fingers in Keith's locks.
"Lance, you're so smart, you know?"
"W-where'd that come from babe?"
"I mean your dad was right, you did absorb everything you we're told. I know you always doubted that head of yours back then...but you did contribute so much. When I piloted the Black Lion I'll never forget how perfect of a right hand man you were. So Lance use all that vocabulary you ever learned to show the world just how smart you are. Because I like-no love, I love every word that comes out of your mouth."
Lance hid his in face in the crook of Keith's neck. Keith really needed to stop doing that. His flirting that he doesn't mean as flirting. It's genuinely sweet, tooth rotting words. Lance is truly going to loose his mind over it.
"Keeeith! I'm supposed to be the flirty one!" Lance pouted."...but thank you. I love you."
The world is silent and at peace, it will be for many millennia. But Lance and Keith, lovers, the original red and blue duo, heros, Defenders of the Universe, Paladins of Voltron, Pilots of the Red and Black lions, will still always be stuck in the stars.
