Chapter Text
“Ding!” There was a new notification from his project work group.
It was worth 30% of his grade for that class, so he was naturally very concerned about it. The professor had pre-assigned everyone that morning, and they were added into the same chat group.
Of course, in this BL world, the makeup of the group was 100% male. He had no other expectations in this area by this point.
Masao: [Hey, let’s decide on a time to meet up!]
Wataru: [How about this Friday, 8pm at the library?]
Without the slightest hesitation and wearing his usual expressionless face, he replied quickly: [How about Thursday afternoon 3pm at the new café near the university?]
As a mob character, it was vital to go with the flow. Mob characters were only there to provide reactions and to be part of the background after all. Rebutting another character’s suggestion, and someone highly likely to be a main character at that, was dangerous.
However, the suggestion of a late night discussion at a place that had a curfew was also equally dangerous.
He could already see how the group members would leave early one-by-one due to random urgent matters, eventually leaving only two people behind. They would predictably get super engrossed in their work and completely miss closing time, the librarian would predictably miss out on them when doing her final walk around before locking the doors, and the two members would predictably be forced to spend the night together and extremely predictably, things would happen.
He was determined not to go near such a situation.
It was also likely he could serve the role of the other team members who had to leave first. But this being a new group with people he’s not 100% familiar with yet, he could not be sure how many people had already fallen into the BL trap and who was still single.
If there were only two single people in the group, it would be terrible.
Hence, his suggestion to go to a brightly lit public space in the middle of the day with plenty of options to leave if something started to go wrong.
His suggestion was accepted.
Wednesday afternoon, he arrived on time but there was only one other person there.
“Hey! Over here!” It was the super enthusiastic sunshine-type ikemen Masao. It was the first time they shared a class but he had quickly made an impression.
“Hey,” he replied and sat down, “where are the others?” As if to answer him, the chat group notification went off.
Wataru: [I’m so sorry! I was on my way but my bicycle just broke down and I have to go get it fixed. I don’t think I can make it, could we decide on another time?]
Keisuke: [I don’t think I can make it either, my brother fell ill and I have to take care of him.]
Kenji: [I’m sorry, something came up. Let’s decide on another time.]
He was speechless.
What was with these random excuses that could have been communicated much earlier before he arrived?! And the last person didn’t even bother to come up with anything!
“Oh, seems like all of them can’t make it. Well, since we’re here already, should we just order something?”
And with that, this situation suddenly became a café date?!!
