Nico narrowed his eyes at Will. The blonde's leg jumped rhythmically under the table and his fingers tapped the table, ignoring his food.
"What's wrong with you?" Nico asked sharply.
Will startled. "Nothing?!"
"You haven't eaten," Nico pointed out.
"I'm waiting for it to cool down," Will responded quickly.
Nico gave Will an incredulous look. He had made a lasagne for their anniversary, using the same recipe Will had almost burned his mouth off trying to eat to quickly in the past. Stacy bumped against his leg begging for some. He ignored the cat to give Will a pointed glare.
Will started down at his plate and cleared his throat. Nico didn't want to start a fight on their anniversary, but it was their anniversary. Nico took a deep breath and placed his silverware down.
"Love, are you okay," he asked gently, causing Will to look up again. The vibration of the table with the constant up and down motion of Will's leg suddenly stopped as they locked eyes. Will was quiet for a few seconds before abruptly standing up.
Nico stood up too, meeting Will at the side of the table, giving Will a confused look while his boyfriend fumbled to grab Nico's hands.
"Nico, you're great-," Will started.
"What? No? Shut up!" Nico interrupted, taking one of his hands from Will and covering Will's mouth.
Will gave Nico a concerned look and made a confused sound from behind Nico's hand.
"It's our anniversary."
Will made a sound in agreement.
"And I made you a lasagna."
Another sound.
"You can't break up with me on our anniversary after I made you a lasagna!We have a cat Will!" Nico rushed out, using his free hand to grip Will's tightly. Nico felt his breath quicken in pace, he was trying to keep the mood light but the thought of losing Will made his mouth dry.
Will gave Nico a confused look, using one hand to grip Nico's, and the other to reach up and pull Nico's other hand from his mouth, lowering it down next to the other. He ran his fingers against Nico's hands reassuringly. "I'm not breaking up with you," he coed, trying to calm Nico down.
Nico looked at Will doubtfully, with and accusatory glint in his eye.
"Did you cheat?"
"No."
"Did you kill that cat?"
"The cat is right there dear."
"Then why are you acting so weird?!" Nico practically yelled.
"Nico, I love you, but please shut up for like, 45 seconds."
Nico went to respond but quick closed his mouth, instead giving Will a nod.
"Nico, you're great. I love you so much, and you are the love of my life. These past 5 years have made me realize what old people mean when they talk about their soulmate. I love watching you snooze your alarm for half an hour every morning and I love the way you greet the cat Everytime we come home like she's our roommate and not an animal, and I love how hard you work everyday, I love falling asleep on the couch with you every Friday night, I love your lasagna, and i love how much you worry," Will said, bringing one of Nico's hands up to give it a gentle kiss.
Nico still had a uneasy look on his face as Will dropped Nico's hands as he reached into his pants pocket, pulling out a small, dark blue, square box. Will slowly got down on one knee.
”whatareyoudoing?"
"I told you to shut up," Will answered, before opening the box to reveal a silver ring Nico had been admiring everytime they went to the mall for the past 3 years. "Nico Di Angelo, love of my life, would you marry me?"
Nico felt his eyes get watery and his mouth go dry. He let out a choked sob while vigorously nodding at Will while the blonde slipped the ring onto his finger. Will stood up and enveloped Nico in a hug. He felt a tear fall down his cheek, probably soaking into Will's sweater.
He didn't really care. Right now he only cares about Will, and his arms around him, and the ring around his finger, and the future they would have together.
