Bella found the two of them on the roof of the cottage.
After the confrontation with the Volturi, Rosalie and Bella decided to take some time on their own from the coven, by living in their own house. Bella loved it. Loved the privacy, loved the freedom, and most importantly, loved it allowed their little family moments like this.
Bella followed Rosalie’s scent to the roof of the cottage, finding her mate sitting on the roof with their child in her lap. As Bella neared them, she could hear Rosalie pointing out and explaining the constellations to the young girl.
“There you are,” Bella cooed, startling them.
Ren and Rosalie whipped around towards her.
“Mama look!” Ren said, motioning to the stars with a look of wonder in her eyes as Bella sat down beside Rosalie. “Did you know the stars are super far away? It’s like… a bajillion miles away!”
“I did know that, but thank you for reminding me,” Bella said. “Did your mother teach you that?”
“Yeah! Mom was telling me all about them,” Ren said as Rosalie kissed the top of her head. “She said you come from the stars and that’s why you’re so pretty.”
Bella laughed at that, glancing over at her mate who just shrugged.
“I don’t know about that. You think my mom came from space?”
“She acts like it,” Ren grumbled.
“Renessmee Carlie Swan, you be nice about your grandmother,” Bella said, poking her daughter and causing her to laugh. “Besides, it is most certainly past your bedtime.”
Renesmee groaned at that. “But Mama-”
“Don’t mama me,” Bella said. “Your mother was nice enough to let you stay up.”
“Your mama is right little one,” Rosalie said, squeezing Renesmee tight. “It’s time for sleep.”
“I hate not being able to stay up with you guys,” Ren grumbled as Rosalie stood up, Ren in her arms.
Bella just sighed as they began walking on the roof. “Believe me, both your mother and I miss sleep, and eating-”
“And breathing and the cold and the heat, I know, I know,” Ren grumbled.
“Having your heart still beat is a gift little one,” Rosalie said, her voice soft as they leapt down onto the balcony. “Never take that for granted.”
Ren didn’t seem convinced by her mother’s words, not that she ever did. However, she didn’t say anything as Rosalie carried her to her room. At seven, she was getting too big to carry, but she let Rosalie do it anyways. It made Bella’s heart hurt in it’s own way, knowing that though their daughter would grow older and join them in eternity, she would still be that. A grown up.
“What do you want to do tomorrow?” Rosalie asked as they made their way down the hallways of the house.
“You think I could paint again with Aunt Alice?” Ren asked eagerly.
“I’m sure your Aunt Alice would love too,” Rosalie said. “Aunt Alice” was one of Ren’s favorite people to spend time with, outside of her parents and her grandmother. The pixie spoiled the child rotten, much to Bella and Rosalie’s chagrin. “But remind her we said no more shopping. Your closet is full enough as it is.”
“What if it’s for books? Or soaps? or candles? Grandma says you can never have too many candles,” Ren asked as Rosalie set her down in her room.
Rosalie and Bella exchanged amused looks.
“Alright,” Bella agreed. “But no going overboard and you better eat some Annie Ann’s pretzels for me if you’re going to the mall.”
“Deal,” Ren said offering her hand, which Bella shook. There was ding notification, and Rosalie glanced at her phone.
“Oh, speak of the devil, Alice says she’s excited,” Rosalie said, glancing back up at her daughter. She held up a finger, her face turning stern. “ But you must get some good sleep to go.”
Renessmee rolled her eyes, but made her way to her bed. She allowed Rosalie to tuck her in.
“Thank you for telling me about the stars Mom,” Ren whispered.
Rosalie beamed at that, kissing her on the forehead. “Anytime little one.”
“But I’m not little,” Ren huffed.
Rosalie’s eyes grew slightly sad at that statement but she still smiled anyways. “You’ll always be my little one, even if you grow as tall as Emmett.”
“I’ll grow even taller,” Ren boasted as Rosalie moved to the side.
“Night Ren,” Bella said, kissing her daughter on the cheek.
“Night Mama,” Ren said, snuggling into her pillow. The two vampires exited the room, closing the door behind them. They made their way down the hallway and into the kitchen before either one spoke.
“I’m sorry if we worried you,” Rosalie whispered, taking Bella’s hands in hers. “I should have texted you we were up on the roof.”
“It’s alright,” Bella said, squeezing Rosalie’s hands in hers. “I wasn’t in panic mode just yet. No harm done.”
Rosalie nodded, relaxing at her mate’s reassurances.
“So…” Bella grinned. “I’m from the stars huh?”
“How else do you explain how weird you are?” Rosalie retorted, but Bella could tell from her facial expression Rosalie was just teasing.
“Well you’re the one who agreed to marry me, so what does that say about you?” Bella fired back.
“Agreed,” Rosalie raised an eyebrow. “Unless my memory is faulty… which it’s not, I’m the one who asked you.”
Bella sputtered. “I don’t-”
“You sobbed for a good five minutes,” Rosalie said in a deadpan voice, though her eyes sparkled with mischief.
“I- listen here-” Bella said.
Rosalie laughed, pulling Bella close to her, causing Bella to also laugh a little too.
“I’m so in love with you Bella it’s sickening,” Rosalie muttered, placing her forehead against Bella’s.
Bella just smiled at that. “Well I’m deeply in love with you as well Miss Rosalie Hale. Seems like you’re stuck with me.”
“I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Rosalie said, before kissing Bella gently.
Yes, it was truly moments like these to Bella were worth all the stars in the sky.
