Work Text:

a giant wave of guilt came crashing onto you as you opened the door to face the sopping wet fairy standing in front of you.

You'd be starting to fall asleep, and then BOOM thunder struck, making you jolt up in your bed. You absolutely detested thunderstorms....the heavy rain hit the window beside your bed as you contemplated calling your girlfriend for comfort. Hearing her sweet voice through the phone was calming enough already, but you felt bad calling her at the asscrack of night for something dumb like being afraid of thunder. It only got worse when she insisted on coming over to your place, the more you apologized and begged her not to make the treacherous voyage from her house to yours (a few blocks) the more she felt like she had to go see you. until she hung up on your face, leaving you staring at your phone. You'd gone down to your kitchen to try make some hot chocolate for her, since it was the last you could do, but couldn't stop thinking about how embarrassing it was. yet still, she stood here. soaked. At your porch. staring at you. coughing slightly.

"pomu ..." You whined out "you really didn't have to do this...you're going to catch a cold if you stay out like this..!" you opened the door slightly more and stood aside, inviting her in. she was smiling slightly "it's not a big deal, don't worry! I couldn't sleep either anyways, don't feel bad." She croaked out, her voice raspy from staying in the cold rain. Pomu walked in as you led her to the kitchen. "I tried making some hot chocolate for us, but I think adding marshmallows I had laying around without checking the expiration date was a bad idea." You handed her a mug of hot chocolate adorned with suspiciously desaturated marshmallows, slightly flinching from the heat the mug gave off. Pomu's eyes widened slightly at the sight of the red spot on your hand. "(y/n), did you burn yourself making the hot chocolate?" she laughed sadly as you looked away and blushed. "I tried my best..." you remember rushing to make the heated drink and spilling some of the almost boiling milk on your hand. you looked at Pomu, sipping the drink and making little sounds of delight and enjoyment from it. sometimes you couldn't believe how cute she was.

A few minutes later you were both cuddled up in your bed, pillows propped up on the headboard as you both leaned into it, her grip on you surprisingly strong. Her warm body was pressed against yours, trying to fit in your single bed. the thunderstorm was still raging on, but with her here now, it felt more comforting than scary. you looked down at the burn on your hand, now covered by a colourful band-aid. Her eyes were closed, and you could hear her soft breathing. You tried to match the pace of hers, but accidentally slightly choking in the process. you were a complete mess, but that's why she liked you. You couldn't see why, but she thought it to be endearing somehow. she held you close to her, your head against her chest. Everything was so calming and perfect, no one said a word. No one had to say anything. Pomu was humming a calm tune, and you were starting to fall asleep...

BOOM

your eyes shot open as you both jumped and yelped, her nails digging into your skin. a moment of silence passed before you both started giggling at the situation.

"did you see the way you jumped!? you almost fell off the bed!" You exclaimed inbetween laughs. Pomu was quick to defend herself: "d-don't even! That scream of yours sounded like it came straight out of a Tom and Jerry episode"

this banter went on for some time, and before you knew it, she was somehow talking about metal gear solid, rambling on and on about characters and events you knew nothing about. The way she could talk about the things she liked for hours was toothachingly sweet, you could listen to her talking for hours. Of course you tried to understand the lore behind her favorite video game series, even watching multiple hour long video essays. But when she was the one explaining, her words just became sounds that your ears liked to hear. almost a lullaby, luring you to sleep once again. her talking was soft, it sounded like (unexpired) marshmallows and whipped cream, like warm soup or like laying on freshly washed bedsheets in the summer. You were starting to drift off again, your eyes heavy. You rested your head onto pomu's shoulder, feeling her hand stroking your hair softly before you finally fell asleep, the thunderstorm now reduced to soft, comforting rain.
