Chapter Text
Joe came home to a silent flat. Usually, when it was December, Nicky would play Christmas songs 24/7, but his mood wasn't the same since he was robbed, fired, and sick. Joe found Nicky sitting on the windowsill in his studio with a cat in his lap, looking out on the night.
"Hi, Love," Joe said. "Has Mr George some news to tell?"
Mr George belonged to their neighbour, Miss Dixie, and throughout the day, thanks to the staircase on the building, Mr George would make his way through the flats and great people.
"Hi," Nicky said when he realized Joe had come home. "You were saying?"
"I was just asking if Mr George has some news to tell," Joe replied. "He is, after all, the one who knows the most about what's happening in this building."
Joe scratched the black and white cat behind its ears, making it purr.
"Not really," Nicky replied. "Mr George can keep a secret if you ask him."
Joe looked at the man he loved with his entire heart. It was clear that Nicky was still feeling blue. Then, both Joe and Nicky looked out of the window when they heard someone whistle.
"Remember to go straight home, Mr George," Nicky said as he placed the cat on the staircase. "Miss Dixie talked about salmon for dinner."
Nicky looked after Mr George as he made his way down the staircase, and when the cat entered the right flat, he closed the window.
"I better go to bed," Nicky said. "I'm tired."
Before Nicky could get up, Joe wrapped his big, long arms around Nicky and hugged him, hoping that Nicky could feel how loved he was.
"Nicky?" Joe asked. "Would it help if I found the boxes with the Christmas decorations? You love them."
Nicky placed his hand on Joe's chest before looking up at him.
"Thanks for the offer," Nicky replied. "But for once, I don't feel in the mood for Christmas. Not after all that has happened."
"Understandable," Joe replied. "Can I do something for you?"
"Just hold me until I sleep," Nicky replied. "I know you got to work on your painting for..."
Joe kissed Nicky.
"You're more important than a painting," Joe said. "Come, let's go to bed."
