Work Text:

"I'd rather eat a live cockroach." Sakusa Kiyoomi saying that after hearing Miyoko Hayashi's confession only means one thing, he hates the idea so much.

Without giving you a second glance, Sakusa went to the other side of the gym to proceed with his daily warm-up routine.

Despite how much he thinks about it, he can't see himself going out with anyone at the moment. He's also aware that he should've put it in a nicer way, he just doesn't want to give you false hopes by being soft with his words. Miyoko was determined to never show her emotions to Sakusa, even though she was heartbroken inside.
She hated how cold and cruel he had been to her, but she knew she had to be strong.
She wouldn't let him see her cry or show any weakness.
She would rather eat a live cockroach than show him that he had hurt her. She leaves the gym, and pretends that she never confessed in the first place. From the other side of the gym, he couldn't help but feel guilty for the way he rejected you.
He hated rejecting you, especially since in his mind he can actually see something serious happening between the both of you and not just a fling.
But his competitive and ambitious side gets in the way, you know that his career and the volleyball world is his priority and for now he can't picture himself dating somebody. He was aware that he should've put it in a nicer way. That night, Sakusa didn't sleep well because of the whole situation with Miyoko Hayashi. The image of her sad face has been haunting him in his dreams every night since then. He has been avoiding any contact with her, but it's been hard because she's been showing up more often nowadays. He has tried every possible way to avoid her, but he also can't ignore her completely. So whenever he sees her, he acts normally and casually, pretending nothing happened between the two.

Miyoko slowly stopped going the gym completely. Not wanting to face Sakusa again. She made sure that she was never in the areas Sakusa was in, so to avoid an akward interaction. She found herself isolating herself more after what Sakusa did to her. She hated her self for confessing to him even more. She wished she could delete that moment from her life.
She was not doing good mentally anymore. She started to have panic attacks and anxiety attacks at random times. She felt she was falling into her own mind. Miyoko did everything to distract herself from Sakusa and from her own feelings. She focused more on her hobbies, her schoolwork, and her relationship with her friends. But, no matter how much she tried, she could not forget about Sakusa and the painful rejection she experienced. She felt like she was losing her sanity because of those feelings. She did everything to stay busy and to forget about what happened with Sakusa, but her pain continued to eat her up inside. As Miyoko continued to do everything she could do distract herself from Sakusa, she started to slowly regain control over her thoughts and emotions. Her panic attacks became less frequent and her focus on her work and hobbies started to feel more cathartic and rewarding. Eventually, she began to accept the rejection and was able to let go of the pain that was holding her back. Miyoko took back control of her life and slowly started to get back on track. That is how Miyoko overcame her mental problems and started to slowly move on from her feelings for Sakusa.Time went by and Miyoko slowly but steadily gained back her self-confidence and improved her mental state.Their friendship became mended again as they started to interact more after the rejection. However, there was still a slight awkwardness between them whenever they were near each other. Despite the awkwardness, they both began to act more normally and naturally around each other. They both wanted their friendship to go back to how it was before the confession happened. After mending their friendship, the year has fully passed since the rejection. While Miyoko and Sakusa were now acting more regularly again, their relationship was still awkward and slightly tense. Despite the fact that the initial spark after Miyoko's confession had faded, Miyoko still thought about what happened and harbored some lingering feelings for Sakusa. As time goes on, Sakusa starts to act more naturally around Miyoko and even begins to feel attracted to her once more. The memory of their rejection may have faded but the feelings have not. As Sakusa sees them acting more naturally and smoothly, the attraction and interest reignites. As Miyoko slowly moves past the pain of Sakusa's rejection, she begins to see their relationship in new light. Instead of being focused on him rejecting her, she sees their friendship being restored and their mutual feelings for each other growing stronger. She realizes that Sakusa may still be interested in her and that she may still have a chance with him. When Sakusa acts more naturally and smoothly around Miyoko, she starts to see him in a more romantic sense as well. It seems that, while the rejection may have hurt at first, it may still lead to a happy ending after all.
