Work Text:
Betagraft sat at the headquarters of the laboratory that Subspace, her dear creator, worked in. His artificial mind clouded with thoughts, many of them about how to protect said creator. It let out a sigh, lowering its head and strengthening its stance. It didn’t even notice, that the stance wasn’t exactly a stance anymore – it was walking.
It traveled down acres and acres of land, each whirring movement and step leaving solid indents in the rushing snow across all of Blackrock. It seemed to be on a mission. It just didn’t know what. It walked on and on, alerting the citizens of Blackrock. People staring left and right, at the betagraft whom just continued walking.
Subspace was confused. He had cameras, and each one was watching a particular Betagraft, making sure they stayed on task. He usually would’ve interfered by now, but he was curious as to what the beta was up to. He frequently checked the cam for the wandering beta, usually just watching it and zoning out to it. In a way, the mechanical whirrs were comforting.
It’s been about a week and two days. Betagraft just keeps walking along. Subspace was watching the recording again– well, using it as background noise. Every step put the man at ease, justs listening to the Betagraft walk. Until –
[ SCREEEEEECH !! sMASSHHH BOOOM POW ]
Subspace’s eyes widened. He quickly looked over at the camera, to see it mostly cracked and on the floor. Betagraft seemed to be in the middle of a road, grayish-brown pavement all around the poor thing. The creature had oil surrounding it, as it twitched and screamed in manmade agony. Subspace watched it all.
Subspace clamped a hand around his masked mouth, screaming for hyperlaser. The shorter man came up to the room with a grumble and a sigh, lightly facepalming as he watched the younger man weep in terror from watching his own creation fall and die.
`` “ Subspace— there’s many more betagrafts. It’ll be alright. “ ``
[ sniffle. hic. sob. ]
`` “ NO, it WON’T !! “
The taller screamed at the older, Turning around to face the other with puffy eyes and a red face. His pale skin was beet red- swollen with tears and his eyes glossed over. Hyperlaser sighed, walking towards soupspace and patting his back. Subspace cupped his face in his hands, crying into them loudly as his inferior attempted to comfort him. Whether it be for a raise– or out of genuine concern that subspace would genocide over this.
[ SCREECH, CRASH , BANG. ]
The artificial demon got run over once more, a crashing sound loudly playing as the camera went offline. Subspace quickly eyed the screen, before crying and screaming even louder into his hands. Hyperlaser lightly scowled under his mask, somewhat pissed that he’s not even being paid for this. He’s just comforting a grown man over a mass-produced robot like a child.
Oh well, he’ll be okay.
