Work Text:

The storm clouds rolling overhead threaten to spill out any second. It's a race to see if they’ll erupt before you and Din can make it back to the Crest. The reports said the weather was going to take a turn, but it wasn't supposed to be this soon.

You would've made it back sooner if the market hadn't been so busy. It seemed as though everyone in town had been doing last minute preparations for the oncoming snowstorm. Unfortunately, you and Din had also been caught up in the frenzy.

The wind bites at any exposed skin, leaving you with one hand in Din’s, and the other with a tight grip on your coat. You can only imagine how frozen he must feel without the help of a warm extra layer, just the cold shell of beskar.

Thankfully the ship is finally in sight, making you breathe a sigh of relief that takes shape before you. But it's too late. Just as you're mere steps away the snow begins to fall. Though it's not the blizzard that was expected, the snowflakes softly trickle down in the waning in Kijimi sunlight; their own graceful dance.

Din stops in his tracks the moment it starts, his armor beginning to take on a thin dusting of white. Yet it doesn't deter him. Instead he hesitantly removes his gloves, tucking them away, before starting to reach for this helmet.

“Din what are you doing?” you ask confused. Though the area is isolated, removing his helmet is something you never imagined him doing out in the open.

“It’s been so long since I’ve felt it,” Din says, once the mask is actually off. He turns to you, the warmest smile adorning his face, but there's almost a shyness to his words.

You can't hide the surprise that consumes your expression; of course he wasn't used to feeling the snow. It was such a simple pleasure that you typically took for granted, but one he didn’t have the privilege of enjoying.

“What brought this on now?” you ask. As much as you want him to have this moment, the possibility of someone coming across your path threatens to ruin it all.

“You,” he simply states, turning to face the sky.

Snowflakes decorate his skin and frost his dark curls as you look on in awe. The warmth of his sentiment is enough to make the cold bearable. Standing out in weather like this is worth it to get to see him in a rare moment of peace, something Din deserved so greatly. If only there was a way to bottle up this scene in time for safe keeping, to revisit it when so desired.

“Then I’m glad to be here,” you smile back, squeezing his hand. “Even if it means I have to freeze.”

Din laughs as he takes in your frozen state. The snow is beginning to pick up, just as predicted, and it's leaving you both covered. As much as you hate taking him away from this, it was getting too intense to stay.

“I guess we should head in now,” Din says, slipping his beskar and gloves back on. “Need to get you warmed up.”

“Thank you,” you mumble in between shivers. “I wish there wasn’t a storm so we could stay longer.”

He reassuringly places a hand to your back, gently guiding you into the ship. Din quickly works to close the ramp, taking one final glance at the snowy scene left behind. The warmth that now greets you is more than welcome, but not nearly as much as the hug Din pulls you in.

“Thank you," he finally whispers against your neck. “Sharing that with you, was more than enough.”
