Chapter Text
The Exarch hadn’t slept in three days. He didn’t need to, of course, but to him it was the thought that counted; three days without sleep is three days without a break. He stepped up to his favourite balcony, staring off at The Crystarium below; a city full of empty promises… his city. The robed Miqo'te sighed, fluffy ears drooping under the long hood that covered his visage.
Were it not for a lack of circadian rhythm, he was certain that he would be too tired to stay awake, regardless of the power that the Crystal Tower granted him. Worried was he, that should the light-blighted attack his people, he would not have the strength to stop them.
“Still no sign of anything, sir.” A voice called from behind.
The Exarch twitched, then turned around to face the source of the voice.
“Ah, Lyna.” He smiled, then stepped away from the balcony. “I was hoping for something more concrete, but full glad am I that we have nothing to fear.”
The bulky, armoured woman nodded in agreement.
“Anything else I can do for you, sir?”
“Yes!” The Exarch clapped his hands. “Get some sleep.”
Lyna gave a quick salute, then walked out of the room. He frowned, then closed the doors to the balcony with a swipe of his tall, brass staff.
“And thus, I remain alone once more.” He sighed. “Were it so that I may have a long rest, I would.”
He reached up to wipe his eyes, scratching the side of his face with a crystalline hand. The Exarch grunted, facepalming with the hand that was still made of flesh and blood.
“Perhaps a spell or two would do me right.” He thought.
The Exarch tapped his staff against the floor, vanishing into thin air.
His voice echoed through the tower’s walls, carrying deep down below the surface.
“Were it so that I may have a long rest, I would.” It echoed out into darkness, carrying past piles of ancient machinery.
A monitor switched on, glowing with blue and white static.
