There was so much noise when I first arrived,
So many people—
But it was home.
My chest always trembles when I come home.
I thought of it the whole ride, but
I couldn’t watch you in the eyes;
They were too stern, too sad.
We had kissed too many times.
You seemed like Boudica, then,
Queen of the Icenis:
Tall, terrifying, with a voice so powerful, 1
Red hair that does not subside
Raising above your head like the crown of a warrior-saint.
You take my hands, there’s a change in your eyes,
We are alone.
How beautiful you are, now
That you are the tall one.
To meet you, for the first time again...
It is a new sensation, for my young nerves,
But memories from another time rise above,
A gesture on my hip, an emotion,
I remember how it felt,
Your face.
You smile at me, with the faith of a mad woman,

But I see a glimmer
Rolling down your cheek.
