Work Text:
Returning from a movie, Midorima and Takao are walking home together side by side in comfortable silence... When suddenly, the raven-haired boy strays away from their path and into an empty park. It was pretty late, so no one else was out since it was already getting dark.
“Takao! What are you doing?!”
“I’m playing in the snow, Shin-chan! Come join me!” He says with a bright smile as he kneels in snow, gathering some of the ice in his hands.
“Hmph. How juvenile.” Midorima says as he pushes up his glasses and looks away from the shorter boy. He knew that if he stared at Takao for too long like this, with that stupid, beautiful smile that made his heart skip a beat or two, he’d easily give in to his pleas.
He most likely still would, he always did. Takao had this strange, unique power over him that no one else did, and while they were both very aware of the fact, neither of them ever spoke about it. So even if there were times where he wanted to say no to him, his body simply wouldn’t allow him to. All he had to do was take one look into those deep, slate-blue eyes, which were almost always paired along with that hypnotic smile of his, and Midorima would immediately lose all sense of rationality… It was as if he was getting possessed.
Takao clicks his tongue, “You’re such a buzzkill Shin-chan! Would it kill you to have some fun?”
Crossing his arms, Midorima continues avoiding his gaze. “You are well aware that fun is not-”
His rebuttal is quickly cut short when something cold and wet makes contact with his cheek, a short cackle following shortly after.
Midorima furrows his brows and grits his teeth as Takao attempts to hold in his laughter.
“Wha-Pffft! What were you- Hah!” The shorter boy smacks his hands over his mouth, trembling as he tries to compose himself. “G-going to say, Shin-chan?”
Midorima doesn’t respond, he simply charges towards him as Takao shrieks and runs away. “Aahhh! Don’t kill me Shin-chan! We still have Christmas right around the corner! Where’s your spirit?!”
Midorima ignores him, but he stops running in favor of leaning down to collect a good amount of snow and instantly hurls it at him. He hears the loud smack as it hits the back of his neck, striking his target dead on, of course. “Ouch!”
Takao turns his head around slowly as he rubs at the spot. “Have you declared war, Shin-chan?” He asks with a mischievous smirk.
Midorima can’t help but return the playful smirk, “You started it, stupid Kazunari.”
Takao smiles cheekily and quickly grabs a small pile of snow, Midorima does the same. Right as Midorima throws his pile at him, he feels some hitting him right in the face at the same exact time. Takao giggles.
“Guess like we’re too in sync as always!” He says as he throws a ball of snow up and down in his hand, contemplating.
“Perhaps.” Midorima says, mirroring his moves.
They stand there, both waiting for the other to make the first move.
Midorima watches as Takao’s cheeky smile turns into a mischievous one, and he narrows his eyes at him. “What are you plan-”
Before he can even react, Takao is lunging at him, wrapping his arms around his waist as he tackles him down onto the snowy ground. He falls on top of him after and they both let out a short grunt at the sudden motion.
Takao straddles him as he giggles. “Kazu!”
Still giggling, he grabs the ball of snow he had in his hand and rubs it all over Midorima’s face. “Haha! I win- Agh!” Midorima smears his own pile of snow on his face, repeating the motion and cutting off his attempted claim of victory.
“You didn’t win shit.” He says.
Takao gasps as he wipes his face. “So vulgar, Shin-chan!”
“You’re a fool.”
“Oh you loved it! Don’t even deny it.” He teases.
Midorima can’t help the small smile that makes its way into his face. “Hmph.”
Silence befalls them and they both look down to their current position, flushing at the realization that Takao was still straddling him, and Midorima had instinctively placed both his hands on his waist... Midorima chokes and he quickly moves to sit up, Takao rushing just as much to remove himself from his lap afterwards. He rubs the back of his head sheepishly, “Heh.”
Clearing his throat, Midorima looks away as he fixes his glasses. He decides to blame his still blushing face on the cold breeze, and hides as much as he can under his scarf.
Takao gasps, “Shin-chan I have an idea!”
He quirks a brow, “Does it involve continuing our initial way home?”
“Nope!”
“Kazu-”
Takao looks up at him with puppy-like eyes as he tugs at the front of his coat, “Pleeeease, Shin-chan!”
Midorima’s eyes widen, he swallows hard as he feels his face burn an even darker shade of red… it was definitely not from the cold.
He quickly looks away, “F-fine. But hurry up!”
“Yaaaay!” He says as he hugs him tightly.
Takao runs off and begins to pile up more snow. Midorima clicks his tongue, “You better not-”
“I’m not going to throw anymore at you silly! I’m making a snowman!”
“Hmph.”
“Make one too Shin-chan! Then we can compare them afterwards!
“It can’t be helped… But I can assure you I’ll make better use of our resources and make a better snowman than yours, naturally”
Takao covers his face with both hands. “Pffft!”
“What now?!”
“Shin-chan is so cute when he talks so seriously about silly things!”
Midorima supposes that his face is not going to stop burning all day today.
“Kazu, I will bury you under the snow.”
Takao pouts, “Shin-chan loves me too much to do that!”
“Shut up.”
“Oh, Shin-chan my stupid little tsundere… Okayyy snowman time!” He says as he wanders off to start on the task.
Midorima sighs and smiles softly. “Fool.”
Moments later, Midorima had put together a pretty adequate snowman... And he was quite proud of it. It was simple, he had merely used some rocks for its mouth and eyes, and added sticks as the arms. He had even found a spare pail in the sandbox of the park and added it as a hat.
He looks over to Takao and the shorter pouts at him again, “Hey! Don’t look! He’s not done yet.”
“Well hurry it up, we must get going soon.”
“Almooost there… aaand done!” He says with a bright smile.
“Let’s look at yours first.”
“Mine is presentable, naturally.”
Takao clicks his tongue, “You’re supposed to make him cute! Not just presentable! ” He says, pitching his voice a few tones deeper in an attempt to mimic the taller.
Midorima stutters, “I-it looks fine… And don’t imitate me!”
“Fine is not cute.” Takao says as he crosses his arms with a pout, “But I will admit you got pretty creative, nice work, Shin-chan!” He says with a smile.
“As expected.” Midorima says as he pushes up his glasses.
“Hehehe mine is definitely cuter than yours though!” He says as he skips over to his snowman.
Midorima follows. “Hmph.”
“Look, Shin-chan! It’s you!”
Midorima looks at the snowman, and it is, in fact, modeled after him. It had branches formed out in the shapes of his glasses, and some smaller ones to put under the eyes as lashes. He had added some still-green spare leaves to represent his eyes and hair. “What?!”
Takao laughs pridefully, “Isn’t he cuuute? He looks just like you!”
“He absolutely does not!”
Takao continues giggling, “He so does! Look, you have the same exact cute little angry expression as him right now!” He says as he tries to hold in his cackle.
Midorima’s eye twitches as he continues to frown, and Takao, not able to contain himself any longer as always, begins bursting into a fit of laughter.
“Bwahahahaha! Y-you’re so adorable, Shin-chan!”
Midorima looks up at him to retort, but is instantly taken aback by the view in front of him.
He watches as Takao lets himself go, clutching his stomach as he proceeds to let out that infuriatingly loud, contagious laugh of his, the one Midorima secretly loved with his entire being, the one that made his stomach do flips. His cheeks are tinted a rosy shade of pink from laughter, and his nose is equally pink from the cold weather… Midorima wants to kiss it.
…Midorima realizes he really wants to kiss him.
He doesn't know what comes over him when he swiftly steps closer to him, placing a hand on his shoulder, and Takao attempts to catch his breath from laughing, “Okay okay, Shin-chan I’m sor-”
Midorima places his other hand on his cheek and pulls him closer as he angles his face up towards his own, Takao’s breath catches in his throat at the action. “Shut up, fool.” He whispers softly.
“S-shin-chan?”
Their faces are only inches apart, before Midorima asks through a gentle whisper, “Kazu, m-may I kiss you?”
Midorima watches as Takao’s entire face turns as red as the scarf he’s wearing, his eyes going wide, and his mouth agape before he breathlessly whispers his response, “Y-yes please.”
Takao wraps his arms around his neck as Midorima closes the gap between them, their lips linking together and moving in perfect sync with one another, and Midorima thinks he’s in heaven, kissing an angel from above.
They break apart, and Takao giggles softly the blush still prominent on his face, “Not that I’m complaining, but where did that come from, Shin-chan?”
“Y-you simply…” Midorima blushes harder as he looks away, still holding onto Takao’s face, “…Looked really c-cute. I couldn’t help myself.”
Takao’s eyes go wide and he immediately bursts out laughing again.
There’s that damn laugh again. Midorima thinks as he sighs with a fond smile. “Is laughing your first reaction to everything?”
“You already know it is and you secretly love it!” He says, wrapping his arms around him tighter, “Now kiss me again you big grumpy tsundere!”
Midorima narrows his eyes at him, “I’m not a tsundere.”
“Yeah, yeah now hurry up and-hmph!”
Takao pulls away for a second, “You know, Shin-chan... I'm really loving this new way of you getting me to shut up!” He says with a mischievous but fond smile.
Midorima can't help but return the smile as he rests his forehead against Takao’s own, “Yeah, so am I.”
