Summary:

I have too many ideas for this AU and a lot of them I can't really make into full fics. So I'm putting them here.

Chapter 1: They Aren't Together

Chapter Text

Ivor storms in, huffing about work.

"Rough day?" Gabriel greets him.

"Working with 'professionals' is such a PAIN. They say they know what they're doing but CLEARLY they don't!" Ivor flops on the living room couch.

Gabriel doesn't respond, he just starts making something in the kitchen.

"What ever happened to the scientific process?! You can't cure cancer without taking risks! CALCULATED risks! I'm no fool, I've been tampering with chemicals since I could walk! And for the love of everything holy, CLEAN YOUR FLASKS before use! A child could follow directions better!"

Gabriel brings over a cup of hot soup with garlic in it. Ivor takes it without question and takes a sip. He complains a bit more while Gabriel sits next to him and listens, though he still doesn't fully understand what the man is talking about. A lot of terms go over his head but he graps the basics of what's upsetting him. Ivor does eventually run out of steam and his attention switches to the soup.

"This is good as usual. Thank you. Is Jesse upstairs?" Ivor speaks calmly.

"He's out with friends right now."

"Ah... when was the last time our little group got together?"

"...How long since you and Soren broke things off?"

"Right." Ivor says with disgust.

"I REALLY think you should-"

"Be the one to say something-look, I'd be MORE THAN HAPPY to be friendly with him again, but that fool would rather become a shut-in than apologize."

Gabriel sighs.
"I'm sure he has his reasons, but you have yours as well."

"You... You're making that face."

"What face?" Gabriel turns away.

"The face you make when you're planning something."

"I know not what you speak of." Gabriel smirks.

Ivor sighs and laughs. He lets Gabriel take his cup, who sets it on the side table, too tired to get up right now.

"You are a handful, Gabriel."

"Me?" He chuckles.

"Yes, you."

"You're lucky I'M the one who catches you speeding. You'd be up to your neck in tickets otherwise."

"I don't speed, everyone else is just going too slow."

"Hahaha, I guess the speed limit is just a suggestion to you?"

"Pesky law. I'm not gonna hit anyone. I'm not drunk."

They sit on the couch together and watch TV, not really making anymore more conversation outside of random comments on what they're watching. It's comfortable though, they often work different times so they can't always sit down like this together. When they do get these chances, they prefer the simple relaxation.

Jesse unlocks the door and walks in. He immediately notices his uncles fell asleep on the couch together with the TV on, leaning on each other with a blanket draped over their laps. Jesse quietly closes the door behind him, turns the TV off, and heads to his room. Best to let the two old-timers rest, they deserve it.
