Maybe one happy Christmas before we go

Summary:

Can’t get home? Might as well stay there for a bit and celebrate Christmas with the townspeople

(Also, let’s just pretend some people from Europe are much much more technologically advanced)

Work Text:

“How the hell,” Marty kicked a rock away in frustration. “are we supposed to get out now? Huh?? We’re stuck in 1949, and we have no way of getting back!” he paced around an abandoned warehouse he and Doc had found when they crashed.

“We could just find a tech store and find things there, or- oh! Dumpster diving! That sounds fun, doesn’t it, Marty?” Doc responded, walking around the car quickly, scanning it intently for more damages, around the most prominent thing that was absolutely destroyed, the bonnet and the engine inside.

“Man-“ Mart threw his hands up in frustration. “We’re in 1949. The only interesting thing made in this time was an actual working computer with a storage system!”

“We could still check. We can take a look around, ask around, we can’t give up yet.”

“Fine,” he huffed, before following Doc outside and to the multiple stores littered around the place. People stared, but that was fine. They would get clothes for the proper time later. They had to focus on getting the right parts first.

“I told you! There weren’t any. Not in this time.” He dropped to the ground, head hung in disappointment.

“Marty, I'm very sorry, my boy.” He took a seat beside Marty and sighed. There was a knock on the wall of their warehouse and two people, a man and woman, most likely a couple, poked their heads through the door. Doc and Marty stood up and the duo came in, the man keeping his hands behind his back.

“We noticed that you were searching for something, and we couldn’t bear how sad you seemed when you left town, and it’s Christmas tomorrow, and we wanted to invite you two to the Christmas tree lighting tomorrow.” The lady gestured to outside, eyes kind.

“We also overheard you asking the stores person, and I had a brother from Europe who had come to visit. You know how they are over there, technology 1 year or 2 ahead of us. But he brought us his yearly technology waste haul, and weren’t sure what you guys would’ve wanted, so we just brought some random pieces and have a few more in a satchel outside.” The man grinned. Marty and Doc turned to each other quickly, eyes wide, before looking at the couple, eyes somehow comically wider.

“Thank you so much! Mr and Mrs…” Marty trailed off.

“Johnson,” Mr. Johnson answered as Doc shook his hand awkwardly.

“Thank you very much, Mr. And Mrs. Johnson.” Marty grinned.

“Yes yes of course! But you absolutely must come to tomorrow evening’s Christmas tree lighting!” Mrs. Johnson smiled warmly.

“Of course of course!” Doc moved over to her and shook her hand, this time not as awkwardly, and more aggressively, but still in a friendly way.

“See you tomorrow!” They both left, grinning. As they watched the couple disappear behind the door, Marty turned to Doc, who turned to him, and both of them stared at each other excitedly, and after a moment of silence, Doc patted Marty’s shoulder and shouted ‘YIPPEE’ and both of them started jumping up and down,

“WE HAVE REAL TECHNOLOGY!!’

‘WE DO MY BOY, WE DO. WE HAVE TWO PILES OF THEM, AND UNTIL NOW TO TOMORROW EVENING, WE CAN USE THOSE PARTS TO MAKE A NEW PART FOR THE CAR AND THEN WE CAN GO BACK!!” Doc shook him by the shoulders.

And that’s what happened. They found parts and made a new engine, went to the lighting, and went back home. The end. :D
