Work Text:

Bucky straightened up and shook the hair out of his face as Dum-E went zooming after the ball he’d just thrown across the workshop. He located their resident genius sitting in the backseat of one of his convertibles, manipulating some kind of schematic on the holoscreen JARVIS was projecting for him.

“Whatcha doin’, Tony? You’re missing the big Clintasha holidays pre-gaming party. Though so far all they’ve done is eaten most of the popcorn Steve got ready for the popcorn and cranberry garlands and Sam convinced Thor that it’s tradition to headbutt people under the mistletoe. Bruce almost got a concussion, you should see the bump on his forehead.”

Tony’s head came up and he smiled absently, “Oh, hey Snowflake. Planning out the design for the big tree in the living room. Forty feet tall, we can’t just go willy-nilly into this kind of thing, can we? Did I hear something about popcorn? Who’s got a concussion?”

Bucky rested his elbows on the car door, amused at the details Tony caught on to. “You’ll find out. And what’s up with you getting all into the planning now, you go willy-nilly into everything else.”

“But this is Christmas, Buckaroo, you have to respect Christmas! It’s special.” Tony turned the holoscreen toward him. “Whatcha think?”

Bucky looked over the schematic and raised his eyebrows. “Is that to scale?”

“Of course.” Tony looked almost offended.

“So that nutcracker would be…?”

“About as tall as you, yeah.”

“That seems excessive, but alright. Kind of your brand.” He glanced down at Tony's hands, which were... sparkling. “You know you’ve got glitter all over your hands, right?”

Tony nodded, turning the screen back and tweaking the position of a few hula-hoop sized snowflakes. “Yup. Rhodey brought U a box of different colors of glitter for her birthday, solely to spite me.”

Bucky grinned, noticing the traces of glitter all over the shop now, trails of it on the floor, a fine dusting on nearly every surface, a worrying concentration of it near the blender by the sink. “Just to spite you? Not because she likes shiny things more than she likes you?”

“Hey!”

“C’mon, pal,” Bucky gave his shoulder a shake. “Leave the rest of the life-size angels and terrifyingly large pinecones for later. Maybe we’ll make it up there in time to start a popcorn fight with Sam and Rhodey or something.”

Tony brightened at that idea, waving the screen away. “I’ll make more popcorn myself if I must. Oh, first things first though.” And then he clapped both hands on Bucky’s cheeks, gave them a rub, finished with a hair-mussing scrub over his head, and jumped out the other side of the car. “Now you’re all festive, let’s go!”

With glitter stuck to his cheeks, hair, beard, and dropping onto his shirt, Bucky leapt after a cackling Tony, boots skidding on the floor. “Yeah, you better run, you festive fiend!”
