Work Text:

It was shaping up to be another pretty chill weekend. At least it was, until their plans once again got ruined by busy schedules that are out of their control.

When they first started dating, having weekend-get togethers to just chill and do whatever was so much easier. But things changed and opportunities to just hang out together became more and more rare. Sure, that made the times they spent all together all the more precious, but it didn’t make it any less of a bummer.

That’s why Skara couldn’t stop sighing dramatically, a pout on her lips as she kept rereading Boscha’s message in their group chat over and over again. It wasn’t her fault the grudgy team needed to do an extra practice for the first game of the upcoming season, Boscha wasn’t too thrilled about it either despite how much she loves doing it. Hell, last weekend it was Skara who had to dip because of the sudden call to help with the charity concert in Latissa.

Viney wrapped an arm over her shoulder, a small sympathetic smile on her face. Pulling her in closer so she could rest against the buffer girl’s side helped her mood at least a little bit. “It’s okay Skara, she said she might make it late.”

“Yeah, but she’ll be tired and the last thing I want for her after practice is to force herself into any activities. And you know she’ll do just that instead of resting.” Skara huffed, typing another quick message to Boscha to wish her good luck at practice. Then she poofed her scroll away and sighed, eyes closing.

One thing that hasn’t changed about Boscha over the years is that she’s still really stubborn. It can be really endearing, but also a curse when she decides to go overboard for either her or Viney. That’s why both of them made sure to be extra supportive before Boscha could start feeling bad about it all.

Still, her favorite snacks will remain unopen, and Skara would love nothing more than to have her sprawled on top of her and struggling not to doze off during a dumb movie. If wanting a lazy time with both of her girlfriends was selfish and a crime, then she was one greedy criminal.

In fact she’d like more than just a day. It’s something that’s been weighing on her mind a lot lately, but she hadn’t really had a chance to bring it up.

Skara’s never been a nervous type, but something about asking them if they’d like to finally move in together got her worrying.

“Don’t you ever wish we could have a small change of pace?” She asked, nuzzling closer into Viney’s arm until she was all cozy with her head nuzzled in the brunette’s neck. Something Viney welcomed by wrapping the other arm around her as well and resting her chin on top of her head.

“What kind of change of pace are you have in mind?”

“I dunno.” She bluffed, preferring to thread the needle carefully. “Just like… have more time together? We’ve all just been sooo busy lately.”

Viney sighed, her voice laced with sympathy. “Trust me, I’m just as bummed. I’d really like that too. But I’m sure we’ll work something out soon enough, yeah?”

“Yeah…”

Skara never liked dwelling on bad feelings for too long. At least for now she’ll push the thoughts away and enjoy her time with Viney, but that’s not going to stop either of them from missing Boscha.

“C’mon Sunshine,” Viney pulled her up closer until the bard was in her lap, smiling instantaneously because of the nickname her strong girlfriend likes using. Adding a big kiss to the corner of her lips topped it off, making her burst into a fit of giggles. “There’s my girl with the prettiest smile! You know we missed you last time just as much as you and I miss Boscha now, right?”

In response Skara groaned with a pout that didn’t last long because as soon as she did, Viney was covering her in kisses again. “I know! That’s exactly why I complain about it all!”

“I know, I know. But it’ll be fine, I promise. Would I lie to you?”

“Of course not.” Skara smiled, shifting so she was facing Viney. “At least not without immediately breaking~”

Playing up being offended, Viney stuck her tongue out, and after the two shared a few laughs that lightened the mood Skara began pouting in a way that meant she wanted kisses. Which of course, how could her big wonderful girlfriend not oblige?

She was certain more than ever that she needs to set a plan in motion. She’s just going to have to figure out how to get around it. Maybe even ask for a little expert help.

“--and that’s the situation.”

Skara inhaled after going on with her wordy explanation about her situation. She slumped back in her seat and grabbed onto her drink, taking a couple of sips and mirroring her conversation partner. It had been a week since Skara started seriously considering asking her girlfriends to move in together.

Slouched in her own chair with an elbow perched on the table sat Amity, humming in thought and agonizingly, slowly sipping her own ghoulshake through a straw. The silence stretched on while she processed everything Skara threw at her. The bard was getting progressively antsy watching Amity’s tired (probably from working too much) expression for any sign of still being present, and after what felt like an eternity, she finally pulled away from the drink, then leaned back in her chair with arms crossed.

“I think you’re overthinking all of this a little.” The abomination witch finally delivered her verdict, plain and simple.

It’s something Skara was already worried she was doing, but she was still hoping for a little bit more from her friend. She ran a hand down her face with a frustrated groan. “I guess, but like, I’m not sure what to do about it!”

“Have you tried talking to them about it?”

“Well I was gonna, but we’ve been too busy to properly hang out.”

“Then when you get a chance to, ask them if they wanna move in together. Problem solved.” Amity shrugged, and Skara couldn’t help but to feel a little disappointed. To Skara this felt like a pretty big deal and a big step in their relationship, and Amity talked about it like it’s nothing. She should’ve figured as much, considering Amity’s been with Luz for a handful of years now so moving in together was just something that came natural for them when they both felt like they’re in a stable enough position to do so.

“I’m just worried I guess…” She finally admitted, swirling the drink around with her straw. Maybe if she looked deflated enough Amity would pity her enough to spare her some more wisdom. “What if I’m looking too much into this? What if neither of them are ready for it and think it’s too soon? I’ll just look like a fool.”

Amity stared at her with a genuinely baffled expression, then shook her head. “See? You’re overthinking it. You three have been together for what, a year–”

“Almost two years since we established the relationship.”

“–almost two years – oh wow, time flies.” Amity needed a moment to process the concept of time. Skara did too even though she didn’t say anything. “Anyway, You’ve been together for almost two years. I’m sure Viney would be more than happy to be able to fuss and dote over you two even more, and Boscha would fistfight an entire towsquare for both of you.”

“She would…” Skara added with a dreamy sigh that made Amity have to suppress a gag.

Anyway…. it’s so unlike you to overthink this kind of stuff…”

The bard bashfully smiled, finding anywhere else to look at but her conversation partner. “I guess it’s just that important to me. We have pretty good communication and all, but I’m just scared of screwing up.”

Another beat of silence passed by as Amity thought things over, then finally hummed as she rested her chin on her palm again. “I guess I get that…how about doing something nice for them before you ask the question? Maybe it’ll help you stress a little less.”

“That’s–” Skara sat up straight, the gears in her brain suddenly turning. She beamed, “That’s an excellent idea Amity, thank you! I knew I could count on you!”

Amity offered a little smile in return. Before she could say anything else however, Skara’s scroll began screaming, and when she checked it she realized that it was her alarm going off that reminded her it's almost time for their date. “Oh shoot, Boscha’s gonna pick me up soon! Sorry but I gotta flee immediately! I’llmakeituptoyouIpromisebyeee!”

And so she was gone, leaving Amity behind. The abomination witch blinked as she watched her scatter away, shrugging and then pulling over Skara’s unfinished drink to herself.

“Sorry, hope you didn’t wait too long!”

Boscha’s attention was immediately flagged down. She perked her head up from where she was lazily sitting on her staff, grinning as Skara ran up to her and caught the bard when she threw herself into Boscha’s arms for a kiss. When they parted she got comfortably behind her girlfriend, arms wrapping tightly around her waist and sighing in bliss. She loved resting her head on her shoulder and feeling her flex under her touch, either because she likes showing off sometimes or because she was feeling a little embarrassed. It’s always the same, she gets so caught up in Boscha she doesn’t even realize they already took off.

“How’s your day been?” Boscha’s voice brought her back to her senses. She could practically hear the grin in her voice without seeing it. “Hope no rascals gave you a headache today.”

Skara complained about the class she’s helping teach being rowdy one time, and ever since Boscha’s been having this running joke about how she’ll show up at her class and make sure they’re never too much again. Of course she’d never actually do that, which is why it never failed to make Skara laugh. “No no, they’ve been good. Great, even! What about you, how was practice?”

“Ugh, don’t even get me started.” Her girlfriend grumbled and Skara squeezed her just a tiny bit tighter for comfort. “Did I mention our new captain sucks? Because she does, and I’m not saying that to be mean! She’s not good at tactical organization! Not to say I could do better, but…”

“You absolutely could, and you deserve it.” Skara reassured quickly, placing a kiss behind Boscha’s ear and noting the way her flying stirred momentarily with amusement. She wasn’t saying it just to be supportive, she meant it - and anyone would agree.

“Ugh. You know you’re too sweet for your own good, right?” The triclops jabbed playfully.

“Nu huh.”

Boscha’s grown a lot over the years and she’d make a fantastic leader for her team by skill and tactical knowledge alone. And the day she gets acknowledged as the grudgy superstar she’s meant to be, she and Viney will be the most annoyingly loud cheerleaders the Boiling Isles has seen (they’re already very close to it).

“Anyway, I can’t wait to pick up Viney and we can relax.” She sighed, eyes closing with chin atop of Boscha’s shoulder. “It’s been a loooong week.”

“About that…” Boscha mumbled and Skara immediately knew what was probably coming. “Vin uh. We had lunch together earlier but she got a call in the middle of it, something important regarding the potions they’re working on for those who didn’t take sigil removal too well. Jerbo urgently called saying they could use another healer. So at least for now it’ll be just two of us at the ice rink. Sorry Skar…”

She could tell Boscha felt bad as well. It was out of everyone’s control though, yet again, and nobody was to blame. “You have nothing to be sorry about. Hey, they might be onto something big and she’ll be the key to figuring it out, because she’s sooo cool.” The least she could do was try and be positive about the situation, and Boscha nodded in agreement. After all, if anyone can do it, it was their amazing girlfriend.

Skara sighed in a bit of a dramatic manner then, and added, “Oh no, I guess we’ll just have to send her a bunch of pictures of how much fun we’re having and how much we miss her then.”

“Oh you read my mind.” The triclops witch hummed, tilting her head back enough for Skara to see her grin. “And since she’s gonna be missing out because she’s so cool and talented, I guess we should totally go behind her back and buy her something nice to surprise her for working so hard.”

Skara winked, chuckling. “Ugh, that’s sooo smart of you, did I ever tell you how smart you are and how much I love you?”

“Yeah, but you should do it again.”

They laughed, then went silent for the rest of their ride. As always they’ll make the best of it, and surely Titan will smile down on all of them soon enough so they could finally have a proper date, all three of them present together.

Soon enough couldn’t come fast enough however. The next few times they’ve made plans something comes up, as if they were cursed. It was making Skara more and more nervous, she just wanted to get the whole talk of moving in together done already. There were two or three instances where she was tempted to just write a wall of text and send it, but it felt too wrong. She wanted it to be in person and meaningful. Even if there was a very very slim chance they’d just say they aren’t ready for it - especially with how busy they’ve been - but hey, being told that in person beats being told that over text.

That’s why, even though Skara was going over some notes Raine gave her for an upcoming concert the kiddos she’s teaching would be participating in, the moment she got a text in the group chat if she’s free to come over to Viney’s because her and Boscha are chilling there she dropped everything to make her way over.

Maybe she was a little careless in her flying over, but it was hard to take it easy when she finally had the opportunity she’d been waiting weeks for. All three of them lived a decent distance away from each other - yet another reason why they should live together in her humble opinion. Besides, as long as Viney and Boscha don’t find out it’ll all be fine.

Speaking of…

The two of them were cuddled up on the couch, having a casual little conversation about their days while the movie played in the background, one they’ve totally been watching. Viney loved sitting leaned against Boscha, sprawled on top of her like a big cat. She’s usually the big spoon in the polycule but Boscha also often huffed and puffed about holding her girls, and it’s not like Viney’s gonna complain when those jock arms are gently looped around her and fingers threading through her hair after a long day.

The door suddenly slammed open, making the two jump and Boscha yell out. Once they realized who it was that entered they both relaxed, Viney resting her hand atop her pounding heart. “Geeze Sunshine, you stormed in here like you’re trying to hide from the boiling rain.”

“You also got here… really fast.” Boscha added, after she managed to regain her breath thanks to Viney rubbing circles into her back.

Skara took deep breaths as well, still trying to calm down after she ran down the street the moment she landed. The bard melted against the nearest wall for a few moments, and when she noticed the other two were trying to untangle in worry to check on her she stood back up as straight as she could. “I’m okay! I’m good, I admit I rushed a little but in my defense, I missed you two.”

“Awww.” Viney cooed while Boscha kept her gay flustering internal. “C’mere, there’s more than plenty of space on the couch for all of us!”

Skara beamed, but then paused mid step. She’s not the type to usually choke up when it’s most important, but now that she’s finally face to face with both of them, finding the proper words to ask the question was hard.

Was she rushing it? She just arrived, and the two of them had a pretty long day by the sound of it as well. Would she be pushing too much on them?

“Skar? You okay?” Boscha called out, a worried look in all three of her eyes. Viney looked just as rough.

“I’m good! Just…” The bard fidgeted, biting her lip. She shuffled her way over to them until she towered over her girlfriend. An unusual occurrence considering standing up she’s the shortest among them. “I just really missed you.” The words came out of her mouth quietly and softly, even if it was just a repeat of what she said earlier.

Boscha and Viney shared a look, both smiling softly as they reached out and pulled Skara into their little cuddle pile. She happily exhaled with a small chuckle, the warmth and comforting presence of both of them easily melting away all the anxiety she had moments ago.

For a while she allowed herself just to enjoy being with them, something she’s craved for weeks now, and by how silent they went she safely assumed they felt the same way. There was just something special about it, something she’d never be able to explain to anyone nor need to, because it’s something only the three of them get to share like this.

“Feeling better now?” It was Boscha who broke the silence, asking gently in a way only they got the privilege to hear. Skara hummed with a little nod, melting even more when she felt Viney rub circles in her back. She didn’t even need to use healing magic.

“Soooo much, thanks.” A beat of hesitation, but just by nestling comfortably between them she regained the last of confidence she needed to carry on. “I actually wanted to talk to you two for a while about something serious. Well, it’s kinda serious, I think it is, but you guys might think it’s silly–”

“Put a break on it, Sunshine.” Viney gently reminded her to take it easy before she could get lost in her ramble. Skara nodded, appreciative of it, and then felt Boscha’s hand, rough from training, slip into her own for support.

“It’s been so hectic lately, we’ve all gotten so busy and don’t get to spend as much time as we’d like…”

The other two slowley mumbled in agreement, expressing their own exhaustions and feelings of missing being together. Which helped urge Skara to move on.

“So exactly because of that I’ve been thinking for a while now, and… I don’t know, I feel silly for being nervous about it this much but-”

“Hey whatever it is, you know you can talk to us.” This time Boscha reassured her, smiling a little as she squeezed her hand tighter. Viney nodded along.

“Thanks.” Skara smiled, overwhelmed with affection and with just how lucky she is to have them. “In that case, I was thinking…well, we’ve been together for a while now, and I’d like for it to stay that way, so maybe it’s time we take a new step in our relationship.”

Silence spread through the room aside from the crystal ball with that silly movie still playing they completely forgot about. Skara wasn’t sure if she said something wrong, until Viney suddenly opened her mouth with a dumbfounded expression.

“Are you proposing?” She blurted out, face red, and Boscha’s face following suit as soon as those words slipped out of her mouth.

Once Skara processed it herself, she almost fell off the couch but was quickly caught by Viney’s firm grasp. “Oh my Titan– oh my, n-no! That’s not it!” She stammered, growing increasingly warm in face the more she thought about it (and how she wouldn’t mind that course one bit), “M-Maybe one day but– I was just thinking maybe it’s time we all move in together!”

“Oh,” Boscha and Viney said in union. Skara covered her face in embarrassment.

Another moment passed, the three taking the time to calm down, and then both of them burst into laughter. Skara fought back her own laughter in an attempt to pout, but their laguhter was way too infectious. “What’s so funny about it?!”

“Well it’s not silly that you worried about it, but you could’ve brought it up sooner if it was bothering you Skar!” The grudgby player grinned at her, pulling her closer to plant a kiss to her forehead. “Why not say something sooner?”

“I just didn’t wanna make it sound like I was rushing something!” She huffed in self defense. “I didn’t know if either of you would like the idea, and I kinda really wanted us to have this talk while we were all together in person. Which has been harder to achieve than I’d like.”

“Pfft, hard not to agree on that.” Viney chuckled, bringing both of them closer to herself with one arm each and reclaiming her title as the ultimate big spoon among the three. “But that’s exactly why that sounds like a good idea. Honestly, kinda mad I didn’t think of it sooner. Guess we’ve all been  too wrapped up with busywork.”

“It would be nice to just see you two after an annoying day of training or a bad game…and in the morning before something ruins my day.” Boscha added her own two scents, weighing all the pros and no cons as far as she’s concerned out loud. She then exclaimed, with barely any more thinking done, “Count me in!”

“Me too, of course!”

Skara stared at them wide eyed, a big weight falling off of her chest. It really has been that simple. She really has been overthinking it; but she didn’t wanna dwell on it feeling silly about it, she’s only worried so much because she cared.

Relieved, she fought off the forming tears in her eyes and kissed both of them on the cheek each, before snuggling up close to them. “I’m sooo glad I finally got to bring it up.”

“...and I look forward to talking out the details, we’ll have a lot to prepare.” Boscha yawned, then closed all three of her eyes as she also got cozy in their little cuddle pile. “But for now I’d really just like to relax with you girls.”

“Yeah, sounds good.” Skara hummed in agreement, still holding onto Boscha’s hand and nuzzling her face into Viney’s shoulder.

“I love you, you nerds.” Viney teased the two, earning playful little nudges from both of them and laughing.

Somewhere during it all they made a silent agreement they’ll be staying over at Viney’s overnight. They spent the remainder of their evening like that, just together and talking about how awesome it’ll be once they get to do it every day once they get through with their next big step.
