Hang In There, Hyung! [Yoongi Hurtfic/Sope]

Summary:

[Oneshot] On the way back from a boys trip, Hobi and Yoongi's car gets stuck in terrible weather. With the rain and wind picking up, disaster ensues.

Work Text:

TW: Blood

It was pitch black outside, with the rain clouds blocking the moon and the stars. Hobi had the radio off in order to help him concentrate better on driving through this disaster. It was just him and Yoongi, returning from a trip they had taken together for the sake of some nice quality time. All of the members would take trips in pairs and it had finally been their turn.

Yoongi was curled up in the passenger seat, exhausted from the trip they'd had. He turned to Hobi and smiled, "At least it didn't rain like this on the trip. At least it waited until it was over." He knew his dongsaeng was stressing out about driving in this weather so he wanted to lighten the mood, he also wanted to help. "Would you like me to drive? I really don't mind. This weather is ass."

"Aish..." Hobi had the windshield wipers on full speed and he was squinting trying to see the lines in the road. The cars headlights mixed with the rain was making it difficult to tell where they were. It didn't help that they were on a windy back road, so Hobi was trying to drive slow enough not to hydroplane straight into a tree. "It's okay. You're tired. You can rest."

"Honestly I'm not going to be able to sleep in this." Yoongi wiggled his body into a full sitting position, eying out the window. "How much longer until we are home?"

Hobi looked at the time. It was almost 9 PM. "About another hour or so."

"So at the pace you're driving, five more hours?"

Hobi leaned over and gave his hyung a playful slap to his chest.

"Hey," Yoongi put his arms up in defense, "I offered to drive and you said no. So I have every right to make fun of you."

Hobi giggled, but his laugh was cut short when a burst of thunder boomed out of nowhere, sending them both jumping in their seats. It sounded like a bomb going off within close proximity, hurting their ears.

"Holy Shit!" Hobi screamed. Within seconds the thunder and lightening picked up.

"Well that's just great, as if this wasn't ass enough, we're driving straight into the storm instead of away from it." Yoongi pulled his phone out and called Jin.

"Hello?" Jin answered.

"We're going to be late." Yoongi said bluntly.

"Because of the weather?"

"No because of Hobi driving like a grandmother. Yes, because of the weather."

"Okay. Did you guys eat? Or do you want me to leave something out for you for when you get home?"

Yoongi could tell Jin was busy with something, probably cleaning up after dinner or a mess someone had left in the dorm. "We're all set. Thanks, hyung. See you later."

"See you. You two be safe out there and call me if you need anything, I'll be up waiting."

Something Jin always did. Waited to go to bed until he counted six other heads home and safe in the dorm when he knew they were driving back from somewhere.

In a bout of pure bad luck, the powerful rain morphed into a torrential downpour. The windshield wipers couldn't keep up with how fast and powerful the droplets were slamming into the windshield. Hobi could feel the car slipping as he gripped the steering wheel tighter. The road was quickly turning into a shallow river.

Yoongi noticed Hobi veering the car off to the side of the road and coming to a stop. "What are you doing?"

"We can't drive in this. It's flooding! Let's just wait it out a little while until the rain and wind calm down." Hobi stared at his hyung in hopes that the older would be on board with a small intermission from their travels. Yoongi shrugged. "Sure." He pulled his phone back out to check the weather, and couldn't hide his worried expression.

"What's that look? Why that face? What's wrong?" Hobi looked to his hyung with worry.

"The storm won't be over anytime soon. It's supposed to be like this all night."

The two of them stared at each other in silence and then back outside of the windows, watching the rain fall down and the tree branches fling back and forth.

"I guess we better get comfortable then. I'm sure there will be a break in the pattern at some point." Hobi turned the car off, but Yoongi told him to keep it on so they could keep their lights on. "So other cars can see us and we don't get slammed into." Considering they were pulled over on this pitch black back road in this weather, it was best they keep the car running and the lights on.

The two settled down and got to chatting about various things while they listened to the rain smack the car. Now that he wasn't driving in it, it was actually quite relaxing for Hobi. It was also making Yoongi a lot more tired.

That exhaustion quickly subsided when another crack of thunder went barreling through the sky. Yoongi couldn't help but notice how intense the wind had gotten and small tree branches were starting to fly off into the road.

"I think we should get going," Yoongi told his dongsaeng, "If tree branches are falling I don't want to get trapped here due to road closures or something."

Hobi sighed. As much as driving in this sucked, he still didn't want to let Yoongi drive. He felt more in control of the car if he was the one driving it. He knew if he was the passenger he would be anxiously freaking out even more. His hyung was a lot better at being the calm one.

When Hobi went to hit the gas, the car didn't move. The water had gotten so high and the road so flooded that the car was stuck.

"Are you kidding me?!" Hobi smacked the steering wheel. "No no no! We can't be stuck!"

"I can go look.." Yoongi offered to get out of the car and see why the car wouldn't move, but Hobi told him he thinks that would be too dangerous.

"It will take two seconds. If there's a branch or something in the way I can move it and we can be on our way." Without waiting for Hobi to protest further, Yoongi took it upon himself to get out of the car and brace the storm to see if he could figure out how to get the car moving.

"Hyung!" Hobi shouted from inside the car as he watched his hyung make his way through the rain to the front of the car. "Ugh! Yoongi!"

While Yoongi was looking around, a great windspeed send a giant branch crashing down into the road. Hobi couldn't warn Yoongi in time. In the blink of an eye the branch crashed down onto his hyung and Yoongi's body disappeared from his vision.

All he heard was screaming.

Hobi opened the door, diving out of the car at lightening speed as if his life depended on it, or Yoongi's life, ignoring the pain of what now seemed like hail smacking against his skin. He ran to the front of the car to see Yoongi sprawled out on his back in a giant puddle of rain, trapped underneath a giant tree limb.

"Hyung!" He dropped down next to his big brother, losing all sense of everything around him and focusing only on the boy trapped in the road.

"Ah...ow...h-help.." Yoongi whimpered. It was hard for him to open his eyes due to the hail. The tree limb not only landed on top of him, but parts of it were sticking out and one end was digging into the front of his shoulder, making it excruciatingly painful, and impossible, to move. Yoongi felt like he'd just been shot, except it felt more like a bullet being repeatedly striking him in the same spot over and over. He felt his body getting hot as he watched blood pour out of him.

"H-help.." Yoongi cried again. He threw his head back in agony and started to hyperventilate. The fear, pain, and weather were making it hard for him to breathe.

"I'm right here. I'm right here. I'll help you." Hobi grabbed at the tree limb and tried pulling it off of Yoongi, but it only made the older rapper scream in more pain.

"Ahhh! Wait! Stop, stop! It hurts!"

Hobi watched Yoongi's face turn and twist in pain as tears mixed with the water and ice from the sky. I have to get him up. I have to save him.

"Yoongi-ah I know it hurts but I have to get this off of you!" Hobi told his hyung to brace himself as he tried pulling the limb off, but it was so deeply lodged into the olders shoulder that it did nothing but add to his misery.

It wasn't coming out, Hobi couldn't move this giant limb, and Yoongi couldn't move. The water around him was already rising from flooding and now on top of the injured shoulder, the two now feared something greater.

Yoongi drowning.

He could only lift his head up so far and if the water rose above it, there would be no way for Yoongi to get oxygen. Hobi burst into tears thinking of that.

"I'm calling for help. I'm getting you help! Don't worry hyung I'm going to get you help!" Hobi ran back to the car and called emergency services, screaming his words a mile a second. "Please hurry! He's trapped under a tree and it's crushing him and he can't breathe and he's stuck in the water and it's rising and if it rises he won't be able to," Hobi sucked in a deep breath, "..he won't be able to breathe. Please hurry he needs help I can't get the tree off of him it's stuck!"

They told him they would get there as soon as possible, but weather might get in the way. Hobi hung up and ran back to his hyung. He tried stopping the blood that was oozing out of his hyungs shoulder while he kept repeating that everything would be okay. Yoongi couldn't stop crying.

This was the most terrifying thing he'd ever experienced. "I-I want to g-go home," Yoongi whimpered. Hobi grabbed Yoongi's head and held it up out of the puddling water the best he could, but the movement made him start screaming in pain all over again. He wouldn't even dare look at his shoulder. He could feel the tree branch sliced into it, the last thing he wanted to do was see it. He looked up at Hobi with desperate eyes. He knew his dongsaeng could do nothing but wait, and he could see the remorse and helplessness in his expression. He sniffled while continuing to hyperventilate. "H-Hobi...if-if..I...die."

"Shut the hell up!" Hobi screamed. He leaned down and got right in Yoongi's face. "You're not going to die. People are coming to help you and you'll be fine. You understand me? You-you will..be...fine.." Hobi's tears stung his eyes. He flinched at the next crack of thunder. This was absolutely unbearable for him. He never experienced a heartbreak like this before, seeing someone he loved and cared about so much be hurt like this, he was sure if anyone was going to die it was going to be him first, due to an actual broken heart.

Yoongi took the arm that wasn't trapped and reached for Hobi's hand, seeking comfort. Hobi took it and squeezed it reassuringly. The water kept rising and he kept having to readjust himself to make sure Yoongi's head didn't get caught underneath it.

"I'm so sorry," Hobi spit out, "I'm so sorry I did this."

Yoongi was extremely confused and wasn't sure if he was confused because Hobi simply didn't make sense, or because he was dizzy and disoriented. He was losing a lot of blood and he felt his body now getting very cold, which only made it even harder to breathe. The lack of oxygen was turning his vision blurry and his eyes started to roll.

Hobi patted his cheek
Hobi patted his cheek. "Hey, no no. Stay awake. Don't fall asleep you have to stay awake. I'll only know you're okay as long as you stay awake."

Yoongi gently wrapped his free hand around Hobi's fingers and caressed them. "I love you."

"What? I love you too but I don't know why you're saying that to me right now." Hobi wiped at his tears.

"I-incase I can't...later.." Yoongi let out a whimper as a sharp pain shot through his shoulder and chest.

"You..why wouldn't you be able to.." As Hobi was talking, Yoongi's eyes closed. Hobi started shaking him. "No-no-no. What did I just say? Hyung you have to stay awake! Hang in there, hyung! You'll be saved soon!"

No response from Yoongi.

"Hyung...please..." Hobi gently shook him again, knowing he couldn't be too rough because he didn't know how deep the tree was lodged into Yoongi's shoulder. He cupped Yoongi's cheeks in his hands and started kissing his forehead. "Please wake up," he begged. "Hyung please! Please you have to wake up! You can't do this right now!"

With no sign of life from his hyung, Hobi checked his pulse. It was slow.

"Don't be dying. Oh God please don't be dying!" He turned and looked off into the drenched night sky and started screaming. He screamed for help, for saving, for the storm to stop, anything that might help. Once he heard sirens in the distance he turned back to Yoongi.

"Hey! Hey wake up! They're here! They're here!" Hobi rested his forehead against Yoongi's and could feel how cold he was. He also realized it was just a matter of minutes before the water rose above his hyungs head and he'd start drowning.

Hurry. Hurry. Hurry.

The ambulance was finally there and Hobi started screaming at them for help. "He's trapped! Help him! Get him out! The water! The water! He won't be able to breathe! Please help him!" he screamed through his sobs. The next few minutes were a blur. Paramedics and firefighters took over. Some paramedics tried to get Hobi into the ambulance while firefighters worked on freeing Yoongi, but he wouldn't have it. He fought himself out of their grip. "No! No I can't leave him!" he screamed. He stood by and watched as they were able to get the limb out of Yoongi and rush him onto a stretcher into the ambulance. He couldn't care less about the car so he left it behind while he hopped into the back of the ambulance with his hyung. He watched as they hooked him up to wires and monitors and oxygen.

"Will he be okay? He-he-w-will be okay, right? He's my brother so he has to be okay. Please let him be okay." Hobi looked at the paramedics with sorrowful eyes. He felt like Yoongi's life was in their hands and he needed them to know the only option for them was to make sure Yoongi was going to be okay. He held his hyungs hand and rubbed his thumb along the back of it the entire way. When the ambulance pulled up to the hospital they were quick to run Yoongi out, Hobi chasing behind.

Someone stopped Hobi in the hospital and told him he couldn't follow because Yoongi had to be immediately rushed into emergency surgery. He put up a fight about it but understood he wasn't allowed to be in the operating room. In the meantime he was taken to another room to be checked over by a doctor.

"I'm fine. I'm not the one who got hurt." Guilt flooded Hobi's heart. He still couldn't shake the thought that this was all his fault. "Is he okay? Will he be okay? Don't let him die. Please don't let him die." Hobi dropped his face into his hands as he cried. His shoulders bounced up and down with every sharp sob.

Another doctor ran into the room saying that Yoongi was losing too much blood and needed a blood transfusion but they needed to find the right blood type first.

"Jin!" Hobi shot his face up. "Jin matches him! Call Jin!"

"Who?" The doctor asked.

"Our other hyung! My Jin hyung! Call him!" Hobi remembered his phone was still in his car. "Hurry please call him!"

Then he instantly felt conflicted because Yoongi needed blood, but that also meant Jin would have to drive almost an hour in this storm to get to the hospital to give it. So now he was worried about Jin's safety too.

Ugh. The agony kept getting worse and worse. He broke down even more. His heart felt like it had sunk to the bottom of the ocean with how heavy it felt.

"But...the storm...." Hobi sulked. "But...Yoongi.." He looked between both doctors. "There's really not some stored somewhere?"

"Unfortunately, no. We will call Jin." The doctor got Jin's information and called while Hobi waited in the room. He curled up on the hospital bed and buried his face in his knees. The doctors had given him some blankets to warm up. The doctor came back and said that Jin was on his way.

"What did he say?" Hobi asked.

"Very panicked but he said he didn't care about the weather, he said he'll be here soon. We told him you were alright but were under some monitoring for right now."

Hobi buried his face again and quietly cried, praying endlessly that Jin made it to the hospital okay in this storm, and prayed that Yoongi could hold off until then no matter how long it took.

Surprisingly it didn't take long at all, because not much later he heard Jin screaming out in the hospital hallway. Not only did he hear Jin screaming, but he also heard four other voices shouting and crying.

They all came?!

Hobi shot out of his hospital bed and ran into the hallway, Jin was already gone, being taken to give blood, while the others were desperately looking around.

"Hyung!" Jimin screamed when he caught sight of him. They all ran to each other and embraced in a tight hug. Taehyung grabbed Hobi and kissed his head. "What the hell happened to you guys?! What's wrong with Yoongi hyung?!"

Hobi explained everything as fast as he could, staring at the tears and worry written all over everyone's faces. "I can't believe you all came."

"Of course we call came!" Jungkook shouted. "Why wouldn't we?! It's seven or nothing!"

"How did you get here so fast?!" Hobi had no clue how on earth Jin managed to not kill them if he drove in the storm that quickly. It seemed near impossible.

"Jin hyung is a badass, apparently," Namjoon replied. He wiped his tears away. "You tell him one of us is hurt and he doesn't waste a second." Namjoon wrapped his arms tighter around Hobi and the older rapper cried into his dongsaengs chest, spewing out apologies again for everything.

"You have nothing to be sorry for," Taehyung reassured. Everyone was quickly in a tight embrace again and this was the first time Hobi truly felt warm in hours, it was a different kind of warmth than what a blanket could give. Nurses came and escorted everyone back into the hospital room Hobi had been waiting in, saying they could hang out there for privacy. Things were quiet as worry flooded everyone's thoughts. Jin was back within an hour and he too embraced Hobi drenched in tears. He had some bandages wrapped around his arm.

"They said they had enough to save him. They said he will be okay. I told them to take as much blood as they needed even if it killed me." He kissed the top of Hobi's head. "What about you? Are you alright?"

"N-no." Hobi admitted how unbearably terrible he felt for everything.

"We tried to tell him it wasn't his fault," Taehyung said.

Hobi couldn't hold in the rest of his thoughts anymore. "Not my fault? Of course it's my fault! I'm the one who pulled the car over because I didn't think we should drive! He offered to drive and I told him no! And then I pulled over and got the damn car stuck! If I hadn't done that he would have had no reason to get out and check to see what was wrong and that tree would have never fell on him!" Hobi's snot and tears were drenching his face. Jin took his sleeves and wiped them away. "You can't blame yourself for doing what you thought was right at the time. If you thought it was too dangerous to drive and you pulled over, you were being protective. Think of it differently. If you had kept driving beyond your limit you could have crashed that car and this could have ended much worse."

"B-but...if I had kept going it could have ended better.." Hobi dropped his face towards the ground in shame. "He was almost killed because of my stupid mistake," he whispered. He saw one of his tears land on Jin's shoe.

Jungkook's heart throbbed seeing Hobi so upset. He rubbed his hyungs back. "You couldn't have known. It was an accident. Accidents happen. You can't control things like that. And you know damn well that Yoongi hyung would never blame you for this either so don't blame yourself."

Jungkook's words didn't help, but he was tired of talking so he acted like they had. Things got quiet again and within a few hours a doctor came in to let them know Yoongi was out of surgery and in recovery. "Tough guy," the doctor said, "He'll be alright. He will need physical therapy for his shoulder for a while and it will be in a sling for a bit, but it will slowly heal as long as he takes proper care of it."

"Thank you doctor. When can we see him?" Namjoon asked. The doctor said in a few more hours.

The seconds crept by slowly. Everyone waited anxiously for the moment they were told they could see Yoongi again. Their hearts practically flew out of their chests when they were told he was waking up and they could go see him. They ran to his room, racing each other. They walked in and all abruptly stopped when they saw all the machines he was hooked up to. His shoulder was wrapped up in a ton of bandages and he had a giant sling holding his arm in place to keep his shoulder from moving. They couldn't help but cry all over again seeing him like that. They slowly walked over, not wanting to bombard him completely.

Yoongi's eyes were a bit foggy when he opened them, and opening them to hospital lights hurt. He felt queasy, confused, and exhausted. When his vision cleared he finally saw all of his members quietly standing around his bed. Jungkook was already holding his other hand.

"Ugh...huh?" Yoongi whispered. "Wh..what happened?"

It was too straining trying to remember the details. He knew him and Hobi were driving home from a trip but the rest was a bit of a blur. Hobi caught him up to speed on everything and then Yoongi remembered.

"And Jin hyung had to give you a bunch of blood," Jimin informed. Yoongi looked to Jin. His heart felt warm knowing his only hyung would really go to a length like that. Quite literally saving his life.

Jin brushed it off but also made a light joke of it, hoping to lift Yoongi's spirits. "Aish, it was nothing. Except now that you literally owe me your life, you only have to obey my every command for the rest of forever!"

This got a giggle out of everyone, even a weak smile from Yoongi. "I'll do my best," Yoongi replied. The rapper became too tired to converse and slowly started falling back asleep.

That's what he did for most of the days for the following week. If he wasn't sleeping he was eating a small meal, and then got right back to sleeping. In the meantime, Taehyung had called for the car that was left behind to be towed back to their dorm, and he stopped by and grabbed Hobi's and Yoongi's phone for them.

Yoongi's recovery was a bit slower than the doctors anticipated and they couldn't quite figure out why. They released him to go home but said he really had to take it easy and informed the rest of the members to make sure he stayed well rested and took his meds. They set some dates up for his first physical therapy appointments.

Yoongi was beyond happy to be back home but something felt off. He couldn't pinpoint what it was but something felt different. It wasn't the fact that everyone was acting insanely overprotective of his every move and waiting on him hand and foot. It wasn't the overbearing hugs and back rubs and foot massages everyone was offering. Whatever this funk was that he couldn't figure out was making his heart hurt.

It took him a few days, but it clicked.

It was Hobi.

Hobi hadn't smiled or laughed since returning home. The younger boy could barely even look at him.

Once the older rapper realized this issue, he asked Hobi if he could talk to him alone
Once the older rapper realized this issue, he asked Hobi if he could talk to him alone. He pulled his dongsaeng into his room.

"Hobes? What is it? What's wrong? You haven't been yourself since we got back." Yoongi sat on his bed and patted the spot next to him, gesturing for his dongsaeng to sit.

Hobi sat down and shrugged without saying anything.

"I know you're hurting still. I'm not blind. What are you thinking?" Yoongi looked desperately into Hobi's eyes searching for an answer. It hurt seeing his sunshine still be caught in that rain.

Hobi sighed and bit his shaking bottom lip. His eyes welled with water. "I'm sorry I almost got you killed." Hobi broke down and admitted all of the guilt and regret he had been feeling this entire time. He mentioned how the members already tried to comfort him but it hadn't worked. "I can't get the sight of you like that out of my head. The sight of seeing you trapped and bleeding out and hurting and shaking...and I was right there. I was right there and I couldn't help you."

Yoongi started crying hearing all of this. He wrapped his good arm around Hobi's shoulders. "You're not a superhero. You did all you could. If it weren't for you, I would be dead. You saved my life." Yoongi tried to let out a light hearted chuckle, "Well I guess I have to give Jin some credit there too, but still!"

This did get a slight smirk from Hobi but it quickly diminished. "How can you not blame me? It was my fault we were even pulled over."

"Did you make me get out of that car and check to see why it was stuck?" Yoongi asked.

"What? No. You know I didn't want you to-"

"Then there you go. I'm the one who made that decision myself. The only person to blame is me, and even I know it was just an accident. Holding onto anger isn't going to redo any of this. It's not going to un-hurt me. But can I tell you something?"

"Of course." Hobi stared at him.

Yoongi continued. "The doctors keep saying I'm healing slowly but they can't figure out why. But I think I've figured it out." He grabbed Hobi's hand and held it in his lap. "I think I'd heal a lot faster if I got to see you smiling again."

"I don't understand. What would me smiling have to do with healing you?"

"Your smile has always healed all of us. It's hurting me to see you hurting. If you can let go of the hurt, then so can I."

Hobi sighed deeply and stared down at the floor for a moment. He looked back at his hyung. "You ...you really don't blame me for this?"

"Not in this lifetime, or the next."

Hobi couldn't help but smile hugely at that reassurance. Yoongi's heart immediately felt lighter. "See, it's already working." He leaned over and hugged Hobi with his one good arm the best he could.

"Thank you, hyung."

Yoongi ruffled Hobi's hair. "Don't mention it." He got up and gestured for them to go rejoin the others.

Over the next few weeks, Yoongi started healing at a much faster rate and the doctors then said it was a medical mystery as to how, but Yoongi knew why. It was because Hobi was himself again. Smiling, giggling, joking. Just the way the universe intended.

Throughout his healing, BigHit did release a statement to fans that there had been an accident and Yoongi was currently dealing with some shoulder trauma. Fans were worried and poured out their love and well wishes. Yoongi immediately went onto WeVerse live to assure everyone that he was alright and healing well.

Yoongi immediately went onto WeVerse live to assure everyone that he was alright and healing well
After easing everyone's minds, Yoongi focused on getting back to work as well. The members were back to recording content for their fans. He also put more focus into healing. Taking all of his medicines, going to his physical therapy sessions (which his members took turns accompanying him to). Before he knew it he was even out of his sling.

He spent a lot of time trying to still reassure Hobi as well. He was worried that his dongsaeng would still silently blame himself and hide his guilt, so he constantly made small gestures over and over again to reassure his younger brother that everything was fine and he loved him endlessly. He'd give hugs, cuddle with him on the couch, offer food. He made sure to spend a lot of extra quality time with him. Sometimes he would write little notes or draw him little pictures. He loved doing those things in front of the camera too, so that he could prove his love for Hobi to the entire world. He knew this would also make his little brother happy.

He knew this would also make his little brother happy
And it did make him happy. Hobi's bright personality had come back at the same rate that Yoongi's shoulder was becoming less painful.

They were healing. Together.

[The End]
