Sanji had never celebrated a christmas. Every 25th of december, people would come and eat with their family, so he never had time to. He didn't know what it was like.
He hated how everyone spent time with their families. He hated Christmas.
So when Luffy, Chopper, Nami and Usopp were putting up a Christmas tree, Sanji felt awkward and slightly left out. He got to working on dinner, it was the 22nd and the cook's anxiety kept increasing as the days flew by.
And they did fly by. It was now the 24th. Everyone was eating, having fun and he just tried to ignore the fact that it was a holiday. He just tried to think of it as a normal party... but he couldn't.
—
Zoro liked Christmas. Well, sort of. He only ever enjoyed it because Kuina wasn't too invested in their rivalry. He liked the way she smiled as she gave Zoro his yearly gift. It made him feel loved.
Luffy had offered him to put up the tree, to which Zoro politely declined, since it brought back unwanted memories.
To summarize it, Zoro's opinion was rather neutral when it came to the holiday.
The 24th came really soon. Sooner than Zoro had expected it to. He went in the galley to take a small break from his noisy crewmates when he found the cook, his lover, smoking. Of course.
"Figured you'd be out on deck enjoying Christmas Eve, curly brows." Zoro commented, taking a seat at the dining table as he looked over his shoulder to Sanji, who was leaning against a kitchen counter near the sink. The cook let out a chuckle, which soon turned into a sigh. "Never really... celebrated it. Just didn't have the time to." Sanji confessed as he took a drag off his cigarette, letting the nicotine burn into his lungs before realeasing smoke with a shaky breath. Zoro hummed, "Why are you here, marimo ? Had a hard time socializing ?" The blonde one teased, a smirk shaping his pink, plump lips. The swordsman scoffed "As if. I just don't get the hype.." he muttered, bringing up a hand to cover his mouth as he yawned.
Sanji looked up at the clock, which striked 12AM. It was the 25th now. They both sighed, realizing that they were wasting time here while everyone was celebrating.
"Let's go on deck, cook." Zoro suggested, beginning to go out and Sanji followed Zoro with a nod. They were stopped by Luffy and Robin by the door. The two of them smirked, making the boys look up to see a mistletoe. Sanji went on his tippy toes, smiling. "It's so pretty. Did you guys make it?" He touched it, feeling the cute object. Zoro blushed at the fact that Sanji was so oblivious, and the fact that he knew what a mistletoe meant.
"We're not doing shit." The swordsman groaned at his nakama, taking Sanji and going back into the kitchen. The cook shot him a look, "What? I saved your ass." He said, earning a growl from his boyfriend. "From what, Zoro?" He snapped, "I was just looking at the mistletoe." Sanji began to leave, and Zoro caught his wrist.
"From this." Zoro didn't let go of Sanji's wrist when he kissed him. Sanji let go of the doorknob, eager to kiss back; wrapping his arms around Zoro's waist as the swordsman wrapped his own around the cook's neck. They parted, smiling against each other's lips as they enjoyed their own company.
Sanji let out a soft whimper under his breath as they kissed once again. Now pulling away, he grabbed Zoro and quickly went on deck. He said they were going to sleep because they didn't like the noise, and the others respected their excuse.
It ws just an excuse, though.
Quickly making their way into the boys dormitory, Sanji made Zoro sit on the hammock. He took off his shirt and took off Zoro's, too as they were now grinding against each other's growing boners.
The night was just beginning.
—
Later in the morning, they woke up next to each other. Feeling each other's warmths.
Sanji smiled at the way his lover slept. The way his neck was covered in bites and kisses and the way his chest rose and fell with every small but steady breath he took... he also started to notice things he'd never seen before;
Zoro had some freckles, his eyelashes were long and curly, one of his eyebrows was thinner than the other, his lower lip was fuller than his upper lip, he breathed in his nose and out his mouth, his nose was thin and pointy, his cheeks were hollow and his skin was smooth.
Fuck, this man was handsome.
Sanji reached out and caressed Zoro's cheek, making the swordsman open an eye and part his lips. Everyone was still asleep, so Sanji had some time to prepare breakfast. He got up and headed to the kitchen, Zoro following about some minutes later.
—
Like always, they were washing dishes after breakfast when Zoro dried his hands and went behind Sanji, covering his eyes with his hands. The cook flinched, putting his hands over Zoros'. "What the hell, marimo?" He asked, clearly annoyed (even though he was giggling) which only made Zoro hum. "Don't open your eyes, okay?" He said, letting go of Sanji and going to the pantry to take something out.
He came back and turned Sanji to face him, he opened Sanji's mouth with his two fingers, which made the cook gasp through his nose. Sanji felt a weird, chewy texture in his mouth, something sweet. A bite sized cheesecake? He opened his eyes and saw a really embarrassed Zoro, who had flowers in his hand. He kissed Zoro's cheek and smiled. "What is this about?" He questioned as he saw how Zoro flushed. He handed the flowers over to the blonde and kissed him.
"Merry Christmas, Sanji." He whispered, pulling him in a tight embrace and Sanji could've sworn he was crying.
Maybe Christmas wasn't so bad, after all.
