Work Text:

So if you're looking for some proof that there's a heart inside of me
Then lace your fingers between mine and you will see it start to leak
And I know you're not a crutch but I can hold you when I stand
'Cause I am living for your touch but I would die to be your man -FPS

The light was dim inside the apartment when Satoru returned home. It was late, streetlights glowed outside, brightening the white, falling snow. He unwound the scarf around his neck, hanging his damp coat on its hook. He removed his shoes, setting them beside a smaller, familiar pair on the shoe rack. Satoru smiled, unable to help it. His chest felt warmer than before, not only from the temperature change of being inside, but from returning home to someone. The soft, muffled sounds of the television lured him to the living room to find Yuuji asleep, arms crossed as a pillow on the table in front of him. He was wearing one of Satoru’s oversized, red sweaters.

A pleased shiver traveled down Satoru’s spine.

Satoru hurried to sit across from him. He folded his long self to fit, admiring how Yuuji’s sleeping face seemed so sweet and serene. He needed that image after the long week he had. Being the strongest meant there was always more to do. Always more required of him. His last mission had his bones feeling heavier than usual, and his eyes burned from how tired he felt. The worst part of it was being away from Yuuji. It was like spending time without the sun.

They had been living together for quite some time now. Yuuji’s old boarding room at the school stayed empty, collecting dust. Ever since the slight facade of training in Satoru’s basement, they continued to grow alongside each other. Satoru had become so dependent on Yuuji’s presence that after the first incident of his death, Satoru refused to let him live anywhere else. So they moved to an apartment in Tokyo, a place where the two of them could forget all the fighting and bloodshed they had witnessed. A place to breathe and be with each other. A house to play in.

It was easier to keep an eye on him, easier to make sure he was safe this way. No one argued. The higher-ups appreciated the idea of the six eyes keeping closer watch over Sukuna’s vessel. They had no idea just how close Satoru watched him though, or how close they were.

Maybe it was selfish to keep him here, to have his student under his thumb this much, but Yuuji always looked at him with eager eyes, happy to be by his side. What was he supposed to do?

Their relationship had changed over that time. Satoru kept lowering his walls, allowing Yuuji to get closer until there weren’t any walls left. He felt seen by Yuuji, and he was terrified of leaving that warm gaze. Satoru could tell Yuuji had complicated sort of emotions for him, the kind that Satoru at least tried not to share, but it was impossible. Some things were meant to be. Love was impossible to ignore.

They became a pair, inseparable. And Yuuji became his student, his favorite, his lover. Those titles become interchangeable so long as Satoru could call him his.

Satoru placed his elbow on the table, resting his cheek against the palm of his hand. He simply stared for a while satisfied with just that, but then he needed more. He always needed more. Satoru shifted to sit with his legs under the table, easily stretching them over to his sleeping partner. He gently brushed his foot along Yuuji’s knee, nudging him to wake up. Yuuji snored a little louder than before, but his eyes remained closed, and his lashes fluttered. Satoru snorted, smiling wider now. He moved his foot to press in between Yuuji’s closed legs, wedging into the space there. That had Yuuji’s eyes opening.

“Wha–” Yuuji let out a confused gasp. He shot up, drool sticking to his chin. He stared right at Satoru, who stared back. The dots seemed to connect in Yuuji’s mind. He blinked before rubbing his eyes, dimples showing from his bashful happiness.

“You’re home,” he said, eyes still foggy with sleep. His hair stuck up on the side he favored laying on, but his smile was so wide, and cheeks so red it only made him more endearing.

“I’m home,” Satoru replied, and he felt it too. He felt like he had come home the minute he saw Yuuji. He understood his surprise though. He had returned home earlier than planned after all, but Satoru had worked extra hard to make it so.

Yuuji’s brain finally finished catching up. He scooted around the table until Satoru could reach out and pull him close. Their arms wrapped around each other’s torsos. Satoru let out a pleased hum into Yuuji’s hair, letting the soft strands tickle his skin. He smelled like Satoru’s sandalwood shampoo. Yuuji liked to use his products, especially when he was away and Satoru was more than happy to allow it. Yuuji wearing his clothes and his scent felt like a gift. He squeezed as tight as he could, happy to imprint his outline into Yuuji’s. He wanted to get closer, he wanted–

“Hey, you want some hot cocoa?” Yuuji asked, his words vibrated against Satoru’s chest. Satoru shook his head, happy to stay just like this. He slipped a hand underneath Yuuji’s sweater, only to hear him yelp in shock.

“Your hands are freezing,” he whined, freeing himself out of Satoru’s embrace. “I’m making you some cocoa. Hey, none of that, stop pouting.”

But Satoru couldn’t help but frown when Yuuji moved out of his arms. He watched him go, eyes trailing over his partner’s backside as he disappeared into the kitchen. He could hear Yuuji opening the fridge for the milk. Satoru let his head fall onto the table, closing his eyes so he could listen to the domestic sounds he craved. He had never heard those gentle noises growing up. He was used to bitter, expected silence. Satoru swallowed after thinking about it some more. He did want cocoa.

He reached for the remote, shutting off the news so he could hear Yuuji better. He inhaled then exhaled slow and content. Yuuji humming from the kitchen made Satoru’s heart even fuller than before. He could hear the clumsy way Yuuji stirred the cocoa with his favorite spoon, the foaming sound of whipped cream squirting on top, followed by the soft shot Yuuji sprayed into his mouth. Satoru licked his lips. Yuuji returned to the living room, mug in hand, his honeyed eyes lighter than before, his face more awake. Yuuji handed him the drink and Satoru eagerly took it.

“I’ll run you a bath if you’d like,” Yuuji said, watching Satoru take his first sip. Satoru’s body melted as the warm chocolate ran down his throat. It was extra sweet, just how he liked it. He wrapped his hands around the mug, pleased to absorb the warmth there. He let Yuuji’s question sink in. They didn’t have to pretend in their home, so Satoru was okay with asking selfish things.

“Only if you plan on joining,” he sang, pleased with life. Yuuji nodded.

Satoru sat with legs to his chest in their tub. It was a big enough size, especially compared to most apartment tubs in Tokyo, but Satoru’s long legs were never meant to be contained. With both of them in, it was a tight fit, their bodies were pressed too close together, but Satoru insisted. Yuuji thought he looked cute that way, all squished and domesticated. Satoru’s hair was slicked back with water, revealing his full, handsome face. Yuuji rubbed his shoulders from behind, enjoying the groans he got in return.

“I missed you, you know,” Yuuji said, easily.

“I know,” Satoru teased, turning his head to look at him. Yuuji splashed water at him playfully. Satoru didn’t need to say it back. Yuuji knew he was missed. He knew it from the way Satoru stared at him, touched him, held him. The water rippled from their movements, and the steam of the bath flushed their skin.

He leaned closer, wrapping his arms around Satoru’s neck. Their skin felt sticky but clean from the humid air in the bathroom.

“What do you want for dinner?” Yuuji asked, contemplating what they had in stock in their fridge. Yuuji was good at cooking. He’d been good at it since he started caring for his late grandfather. Satoru loved his food too, always eager to eat whatever he made.

“Hm, I think I want you,” Satoru teased. Yuuji smirked. He was fully prepared to splash Satoru again before he was caught by large, familiar hands. Yuuji pulled them close instead, kissing Satoru’s long fingers. He rubbed the pads of his thumbs along the ridges in Satoru’s fingers. Their skin started to wrinkle from being in the water too long. Yuuji leaned to kiss Satoru’s head before he stood up out of the tub. He grabbed a towel to wrap around his smirking partner, pulling him out of the bath.

Yuuji loved taking care of Satoru like this. After hearing stories from his childhood, Yuuji felt sad at how much Satoru missed out on. Even though he was born into a wealthy family, and known as the honored one, no one seemed to spoil him in the way Satoru needed most. He was used to gifts and people singing his praises, but unused to being loved. People loved what Satoru was over who he was. The disconnect happened there. But Yuuji was grateful, he supposed, that he could be the one to love Satoru for Satoru. Yuuji was more than willing to fulfill the role.

Yuuji lured Satoru out of the tub, towel pulling him along like a soft, playful siren. He started to hum again, mimicking some tune from a commercial he kept hearing on TV. Satoru laughed at that but soon started to hum along with him.

The snow kept falling outside, but it hardly mattered. The world didn’t exist outside their apartment.

Later that night, after dinner, Yuuji put on a movie for some background noise. They sat close. Yuuji had his back resting against Satoru’s chest. He listened more to Satoru’s loud heart thumping by his ear, rather than the movie. His eyes started to grow heavy as peace returned to him. He didn’t have to worry about where Satoru was, or if he was ok. Not when he was home like this. They were pressed so close as if they were stitched together. Yuuji could feel his warm huffs of breath brushing against his face from above. He turned around to find Satoru asleep.

Yuuji smiled, letting his eyes close too. Despite having napped not too long ago, Satoru’s fatigue seemed to rub off on him. He snuggled even closer, grinning when Satoru wrapped his arms around him.

Yuuji woke later to the static glow of the TV. He was lying on his back, with Satoru above him. Their positions had switched drastically. Satoru’s blue eyes glowed brighter from the dim lighting in their apartment. He felt his hands creep underneath his shirt, fingers splaying across Yuuji’s stomach. The tiredness seemed to momentarily leave Satoru’s face from their nap together. Yuuji was thankful for it, but it seemed they wouldn’t be returning to bed just yet.

“Sa-”

“It’s been too long, I can’t hold off any longer.”

“I’m yours,” Yuuji responded. The acceptance of his claim seemed to cast a spell over Satoru. He groaned, lost and deep in love. Even with the heat turned low in their home, their bodies warmed each other up enough.

“Mine," Satoru confirmed.  He kissed him desperate and full of promise. Yuuji let out a small moan into Satoru's mouth. The sensation was quickly waking Yuuji up, his body ready, but his mind a little slow. Yuuji savored the way his hips were tightly squeezed as he was kissed. Satoru pulled away only once to say, "And I'm yours, Yuuji, always," before he closed any remaining distance between them.

'Always'
